10 year service
Texas replied to jackcramerr's topic in Lexus IS 250 / Lexus IS 250C Club / Lexus IS 220D & IS 200D Club
This.. Note: brake fluid change is every 36 Months (30,000 Miles) . Spark plug change is every 72 Months (60,000 Miles) -
+1 on working back from the insurance price as you have not got any driving history it may be a shocker. but regards an IS250 well as a first car you are gonna be spoilt and if you do some homework it shouldn't be a money pit as 10years/100k sometimes does not even show on a Lexus. best of luck and good choice for a first car, wow! paul m.

Can't reccomend a brand other than the OEM Denso, you may be able to get yours refurbished if it has just suffered rectifier failure for example. with regard to any 're-setting' then you will prob only need to disconnect battery for say 15 minutes to do a soft reset of ECU to clear any errors thrown by voltage fluctuations, But you really should disconnect battery anyway When fitting an Altenator so this will be achieved. You will have to 'reset' your electric Windows after battery removal ( and moonroof if fitted) but audio equipment does not require any codes. Also give your battery a good long trickle charge as it would have been deeply discharged when you were using car with nothing going back into it and also to give your new Altenator a nice easy ride when first used. paul m.

I have been looking at these and some of the reviews point to poor quality control and some units being DOA! Have you used yours in anger and did it arrive 100% fully charged? As most of the 'faulty' ones apparently turn up with less than 100% state of charge ( not a good sign ) and then even after charging the units for a long while they fail to reach 100% or if they do display 100% when actually used to do the buisness they fail! If you have had occasion to use it and it worked then You may have been lucky and got a good 'un but I am not willing to take a chance as it seems it may also be a problem returning a faulty unit as couriers don't like lithium batteries! Especially faulty ones!! paul m.

Rear Brake Calipers for IS250 2007 - Solid or Ventilated
Texas replied to mk_lon's topic in Brakes & Suspension
""unfortunately i have no tools and am pretty useless when it comes to car DIY 😓"" That's the sort of thing you don't wanna be saying within earshot of the garage that could interpret into £££££'s therefore you are sort of at the mercy of what the garage says you need, when if fact there maybe ( cheaper for you/harder for them) options. paul m. -
Rear Brake Calipers for IS250 2007 - Solid or Ventilated
Texas replied to mk_lon's topic in Brakes & Suspension
Vented Discs are 18mm thick & solid are 10mm thick, and consequently there are two different size calipers to allow for this, so you should be able to tell, like mentioned above, by looking through your rear wheels. I would question your 'independent' and ask are they able to be removed and clean/refurbished? They like Lexus might just wanna play with new parts for an easy life, instead of putting in some old fashioned time and effort. The squealing could be the result of a stuck caliper slide pin(s) which is a known weak point on the 250 for some reason, and this does not allow the pads to fall away from the disc after a breaking event and you get the squealing. paul m. -
EGR Valves

Yes it will, for a while, until it clogs again and it will! Only save and grace will be that you can clean one at your leisure while using the other on the car. From my college days I remember a lecturer stating that Diesel engines were idea for heavy loads ie heavy plant/machinery( not a car), long run durations (hours/days/weeks) ie Ships/generators ( not exactly cars) and were most efficient when under a constant load, again not in a 'small' car. So when not used under these ideal conditions problems are going to occur and any ancillary equipment to reduce the levels of solids in the emissions is going to need maintainance at some level no matter what Gucci type of 'Re-Gen' system you employ. Paul m. -
Did you have any 'incidents' when taking out or putting the battery back in? apparently there is a meaty main fusible link in the main fuse box that don't take to kind to untoward events! prob need a multimeter to check all fuses as visually they can sometime 'look' ok buy are indeed failed. could you have not connected the main cable to starter/solinoid paul m

Went to my dentist today for a check up and had to take some pics of the car park adjoining the practice, been meaning to do it for a while as every time I go in there it makes me think there's no way a car park would be laid out this way in London say. I think you can tell it's a free car park and you would not think twice about taking your pride and joy in there.... paul m.

End of the road

I also have a Mondeo along side my 250 and I gotta say that it's horses for courses, of course they both get you from AtoB but if I'm going to supermarket guess which one I'm in ? Likewise when working away and driving for a couple of hours to a job then it's gonna be 'the nice one' as my wire calls it! Just gotta treat yourself sometimes and not worry to much about the cost, can't take it with you... paul m. -
New head unit for is 250 - tablet size / tesla
Texas replied to oroboros's topic in Modifications & Tuning
Ok.... That EBay ad you link to states that if you have sat nav screen 'optical' in their words then unit cannot be fitted! And "Lexus is without optical it can be installed" So if you have sat nav/media player/TFT screen (bottom pic in my first post) is that unit going to be suitable? Paul m. -

so have you got the 'Navi' Multimedia/Mark Levenson option with TFT screen(bottom pic) fitted in your 250 or the AM/FM radio (top pic) Paul M. From London UK to Cornwall 100 miles (?) which way did you go??? -
Can't comment on the audio variations aspect as I have only ever had the ML. If the garage has got a good 'un then prob just holding out for a while as they know they are sought after! Have you read all of this for specs through the years? https://www.honestjohn.co.uk/carbycar/lexus/is-2005/ If you had some numbers on last weeks EuroMillions then you could get this Beauty for just over 10K Paul m.

+1 on the interior colour, the black leather ( in my opinion, and I'm bias!) just 'looks' better after a few years of use, yes sure you can prob clean the others and the black is prob just as dirty but just dosent show it! apparently also the Black leather is slightly more thicker/robust that all the colours for some reason. Did you get to drive the car a bit "enthusiastically" shall we say in PWR mode? SE-L (only) has got the rear electric sun shade, real wood interior trim inserts and illuminated scuff plates on front doors. Only factory extras available for the SE-L were Moon(sun)Roof and ACC/PCS Active (radar) Cruise Control. paul m.

PS. Don't forget to make sure all those pins are nice and 'slidey' paul m.

Proper batteries were fitted to these in the factory! You can't actually get a Panasonic car battery here and if you look at the labels on the top of yours it will have a release date stamped on, something like 140806 = 14th Aug 2006( can't quite make it out in your Pic but looks like 21 11 ?? ) because you car was shipped from japan the battery was put in the car long before the first owner even seen it! So if you are keeping 'her' did you get a decent replacement, like the Bosch S4 068 ? paul m.

""Amazon have castrol magnatec 5w30 fully synthetic on at the moment for £17 for 4L,"" Not just the fully synthetic but the Stop/Start one which is normally a bit dearer! https://www.amazon.co.uk/Castrol-15990F-Magnatec-Stop-Start-Engine/dp/B01H3UKUMW/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1546636477&sr=8-2&keywords=magnatec

My thoughts ( other thoughts are available!) are that as long as the oil used is the same 'rating' ie 5w30 as the manufacturer stated when they built/released the car then you can't go far wrong as the actually 'quality' or 'specification' of the oil today ( SN or ACEA rankings) are going to be far superior to oils from 20 years ago! What I can't really get my head around is the oils that say Halfords sell labelled as 5w30 'Ford' or 5w30 'Vauxhall' can it be that specific or is it for the ease of the end user? Paul m.

Exhausts on these cars are pretty robust and last a good long while, but to check 100% you really need to get it up on a lift with engine running. As for that sticker then I would, when crawling all over the car inspecting it, have a cheeky try at peeling away the corner to see how 'stuck' it actually is. And as for getting them take it then Off....NO... It will prob be the same Herbert that put it on there and he don't give a hoot. So you know the rules....'If you want a job doing properly....." paul m.
