  1. Don't get me wrong, I'm not an advocate for a super nanny state but some people need slightly Larger warning labels than others ( and I don't mean for optical reasons!) Also manufactures have to fit these labels ( they prob would not out of choice) under certain regulation requirements. note: it is prob a quite substantial sticker and may leave a right mess is removed! Paul m.
  2. Right...... Those labels are exactly what they show... A warning Not to fit rear facing child seats in that position so I appreciate you are the owner/driver of the car now but what about any subsequent owner or even a friend/family member who borrowed your car and may fit a rear facing child seat ? paul m.
  3. God forbid you ever end up in a crash situation in your motor and need extricating by the Fire & Rescue Service because these labels are an indication to the rescuers where Not to cut the vehicle to release any entrapped occupants! If any manufactures warning labels were to knowingly be removed and then if a rescuer was to be injured while trying to extricate anybody from that vehicle unaware of this fact then a claim may be forth coming from the Firefighters solictors! paul m.
  4. Surely, even though they are aftermarket ones I would expect them to be same physical Size as OEM knowing that something gotta give in quality of construction and quality control standards for attractive price but Size? Paul m.
  5. This is possibly when you find out how expensive your cheap insurance is?
  6. More info here and I did read somewhere else that as the assembly was located in the central consul area a spilt liquid from the cup holder was responsible for throwing up this fault! http://4runnerclub.com/i/4r_files/fsm/ToyManuals-2007-4Runner/toyfsrm/07toyrm/07toypdf/07rmsour/4runnerr/0440031.pdf
  7. Gotta fix the fault first, By 'spiral cable' I think you'll find that is reference to the 'Clockspring' jumper cable that connects the steering column SRS circuit wiring to the airbag unit itself in the centre of the steering wheel, this cable allows the steering wheel to turn from lock to lock and maintain an electrical connection to the air bag unit. They do fail sometimes but you forum suggestion is a stab in the dark at best! And B1100 -Airbag Sensor Assembly Malfunction would not point me towards the clock Spring jumper cable!
  8. ' Coppery coloured Goo' sounds like it might be Rust from not having the correct concentration of coolant! ( and not water alone) This rust will kill thermostats and block the smaller pathways in the radiator, sounds like it needs a good flushing ( and reverse flush), inspection of thermostat and filling/bleeding with correct coolant. Is cabin heater working ok ( nice and hot) cause if that gets blocked up it will be a nightmare to replace. Also need to get to bottom of why it needs topping up all the time ( this topping up should be done with neat coolant as if you are just using water then you are constantly diluting the coolant that is in there!) paul m.
  9. So you have confirmed problem area and by 'by-passing' temporararly can 'fix' the problem, just need to fix it properly now as I don't think the car will be so forgiving if exposed to reverse polarity again without it's proper protection in place. And yes, a reduced size battery will struggle in this car with all the toys. Note; when new this car would have been fitted with a FLA ( Flooded Lead Acid) Standard Battery.( Panasonic) paul m.
  10. +1 on double checking tyres pressures ( I did mention that above in the first reply!) gotta cover the basics first before getting too bogged down in complicated areas. paul m.
  11. Goes to show that fault finding should always be done in a logical sequence and not to assume anything is good but to check the easiest/cheapest things first before getting into the intricate/expensive bits! Glad you got a ( relatively) inexpensive outcome.. paul m.
  12. I understand the importance of tip-top Brake fluid and I would of thought that deteriorating fluid would make the braking effect Worst not momentarily Better! paul m.
  13. That'll be the " Law of Sod " bound to be the other one when you gotta choice of two and apply some sort of logic! paul m
  14. But note that the Bosch S4 026 068 will not be reccomended by any retailers as fitting the 250 series for some reason but believe us it does ( temperature sensor is a bit tight!) and I do think you should have as large a capacity as will physically fit with all the electrical toys the IS has got fitted! Can be got today for £80!!! Pic Added paul m.
  15. It's like slowing down from say 50-60 to a stop and at some point just before the actual point of stopping it's like some extra pressure has been applied ( not by me) and the brakes work a bit harder, similar I say to if you was braking to stop at a point in the distance and at some point a hazard was spotted, you would up the pressure to reduce your stopping distance but I'm Not upping the pressure! Like I said passengers might think 'why did we do Extra braking there for No reason' hope the description makes dome sort of sense. paul m.
  16. J Henderson, Can I ask what leads you to say "its one of the best things I've ever done"? I know the 250 brakes and be a bit 'grabby' and sometimes I feel as though any passengers in the car may think it's my braking methods when in fact it is not! So is this 'grabby' feeling down to the size of the disc or the size of the pads (or both) in some way? And are you brakes now nice and smooth in their actions? not that the 250 brakes aren't there when you need them! Just an art to apply them smoothly! paul m.
  17. Addendum, I suggest you also check out the US Lexus owners site ClubLexus as they have a hell of a lot more IS's on the road than 'here' and casting no aspersions they tend to mis-connect batteries a lot more! It might have been the site where I read about the Fuse/link actually! paul m.
  18. If you have exposed your car to reverse polarity from an incorrectly fitted battery then I'm sure that this problem has been discussed before and I recall that there is a fuse/link in the engine compartment fuse box that needs checking. Do a search using key words for this problem as I'm sure it is quite fixable. ( searching myself now!) paul m.
  19. Here is another satisfied owner who has fallen for the Lexus way of doing things.
  20. What was that Lionel Richie Line......."WoW What a feeling......" paul m.
  21. Apparently the average age of a UK Lexus Driver is 52, Merc Driver 42 & BMW Driver 32 so you are going towards the right end!! paul m
  22. What would have been their response if you told them you had got a 400 bhp Merc or Audi I wonder.......( being Germanic I bet they would have been OK with them I bet, bit shallow if you ask me) As for being seen as 'bad' I don't think it's that more so 'unknown' like you found out, unless you use one you don't realise how good they are compared to the competition. paul m.
  23. So, from those compression readings, do you think that the valves are not closed 100% for some reason? You say it ran (idle) for a long while previously but not now. So could it be that the timing is now out due to that 10+ year old belt? paul m.

    Hello!

Excellent choice of Motor ( but then perhaps I'm a bit biased) Lots of info here https://www.honestjohn.co.uk/carbycar/lexus/is-2005/ to give you an insight into your new ride, that is unless you already know all this from doing research before your purchase! Cheers Paul m.
