  1. If that's the case then it should be quite easy to test it and find out in a nice safe place! paul m.
  2. Gotta say that looks very aftermarket and not Lexus factory fitted. So what kit is on your car that is aftermarket as such ie Towbar etc? Do you have the Multimedia player in your car ie you can play DVD movie discs onto multimedia ( Sat-Nav,Audio,Climate,Phone interface) dash-screen? If yes then previous owner ( and I'm assuming there was a previous owner because this switch is not OEM and you would know about it if you had car from new!) may have performed the DVD hack whereby disabling the speed sensor feed and shorting the handbrake connection to the ICE head unit allows DVD movies to be viewed while the car is in motion, and this switch may control that hack! Paul m.
  3. Regarding the Rear View Door Mirror problem, have a read of this thread, admittely it was for the 'No Tilt when in Reverse' problem but it does show (very well) how to get to mirror mechinisms and check if all is OK. Paul m.
  4. The S option is also good for when you are stuck in slow moving stop/start traffic for an age ie on the motorway, it is intended for use in Snow and the car pulls away more gently in a higher gear ( so as not to spin the wheels hopefully) which makes the traffic jam a bit more pleasent ( not that you want to be stuck in traffic at all) and iirc it automatically comes out of S(now) mode at 28 MPH. ( gone off to check this right away.....) Paul m.
  5. Try someone who may be ‘breaking’ a IS on eBay. I would expect any IS to be suitable, ie 200,220,250. paul m
  6. How do insurance companies view imports? ( any excuse to up the premium I guess, but on what grounds?) any other 'down sides' to buying/owning/running/selling a import as such? paul m.
  7. Yes, simply meaning No 2.
  8. Also don't forget to use the PWR button! That's if you don't mind watching the fuel gauge drop like a stone!!! But then again you just bought a V6 so perhaps not. paul m.
  9. Mirror could be physically broken inside or not getting electrical supply. Firstly try operating it with engine off/window open to check if motor is operating. report back when you have car as there are numerous fuses associated with the mirrors! paul m.
  10. According to Lexus service schedule, spark plugs are at every 72 Months/60,000 Miles* (whichever comes first) so if this service was done by Lexus I would expect to see 'Plugs' in the 'My Lexus' service history. * This is for emission reasons and plugs can easily last upto 100,000! paul m.
  11. Note, when you own car ( need details from the V5) you can sign up to the ‘My Lexus’ app via Lexus ( ‘My Lexus’ is more user friendly on a phone than a PC for some reason) and view details about cars history including any servicing carried out by Lexus. paul m
  12. Happy days , got yourself a 250! did it come with a tomb of a owners manual because everything you need to know is in there?
  13. Were all those fluids done for the quoted £130? If so, sounds good for piece of mind I reckon! paul m.
  14. If you really want to know why you shouldn't go to KwikRip, have a read of Post #1 and #4 ( same person!) here!!!! https://talkford.com/community/topic/390591-front-and-rear-discs-and-pads-change/#entry3112803 paul m.
  15. FYI the automatic gearbox on the IS is pretty much bullet-proof and if a fault occurs then it could easily cost £000's to fix at a dealership. They very rarely give trouble and I don't think I would entertain an automatic car ( Especally a Lexus) at any price with a known fault. As my old nan used to say 'Plenty more fish....." paul m.
  16. Was it this thread here, On closer inspection the one in the link has lost its rear bumper but the one above has one!
  17. Well if you do get it for about 2k then you are getting a hell of a lot of car for your money, what model is it? paul m.
  18. Welcome.... firstly, top choice of motor ( but I might be slightly bias!) you are right to have doubts about the boot space, it has a large capacity but a very small opening and the fact the back seats do-not fold does not help any. The other (only) negative for me is rear leg room, but as I'll only ever be driving it not such a problem! 1. Mileage in itself should not be a concern as these cars can absorb the distance without problem if treated well. 2. Welding....if there was any welding done other than to the known weak point in the 'Y' on the exhaust then I would be wary! But as a genuine exhaust from Lexus can run you £000's ( because they last well and the car is not very common there wasn't, until recently, any after market choices) repair is acceptable. 3. Alternators do fail and comparing a IS to a Focus is not really fair, the Lexus has prob got a hell of a lot more electrical demand than the focus but if it has been replaced then that should be a good thing yes? 4. Rads are not a known weak spot on the IS as such and that would be unusual as far as I know, 5. There have been two recalls, one for a fuel seal, which was a few years ago and if the car was still getting serviced by Lexus back then I would expect that this would have been done. The more recent one is for the passenger side airbag unit and this will, like you say be done FOC ( and you'll prob get a loan car also!) 6. Tyres are a common topic on mot's with the IS and alinement/tracking needs to be done every time tyres get changed ( this should be done anyway) I sure you will love the IS, weather this one or not, as I haven't found anyone who hasn't been thoroughly impressed as time went on! one point that arouse recently was the fact that when someone was looking for a IS there seemed to be a lack of paperwork history for maintenance and repairs! It was then pointed out that this was about right as these cars are very reliable and do not need nursing at every corner ( unlike my Ford). But it does seem as though this one has had its share of garage ramp use! Also the bit about delivering it!!! Either a very nice man or not as the case may be. paul m.
  19. Looks like ad has been removed, but I bet posters IP has not been banned !
  20. The slot that you put your music CD's ( and movie DVD's if you have the multimedia system) is NOT the slot that the SatNav DVD lives. The SatNav DVD has it's own dedicated slot that is behind the clock bezel/fascia, this is removable with the two small watchmaker screwdriver looking tools that are stored in the spine of the cars toolkit in the boot. Try and do it without using a Metal screwdriver at step 3, if anything use plastic! And don't bother to dis-connect clock module. paul m.
  21. Slow down there fella, Don't mention the 'S' word near her!, Everything is fixable-if you know 'What' to fix. it sounds as though you are a bit attached to this motor so it might be worth throwing a bit of money ( if you can) at it and enlisting the help of a recommened AutoSpark to try and diagnose What is at fault! What say you? Paul m.
  22. +1 on Not going to KwikRip or should that be -1. Question back to you, How much do you prize you car, it (Lexus) is one of ( if not THE) most reliable cars out there and if you look after it then it will look after you! Yes, undoubtly Lexus are going to be the most expensive for a normal service, but you get what you pay for. But what you should do ( if you can't/Don't DIY) is try to find an independent garage and build up a relationship with them for all your motoring needs and it should pay dividends, you ain't gonna get any type of relationship with the chain stores, that's for sure! paul m.
  23. Happy days, and it never cost the Earth! Great feeling when you fix something that on first look seems a daunting/expensive task. I assume your original mileage is still all OK in the bottom display? cheers Paul m.
  24. Well, that's not good news.... Gotta say that as the car has got this fault then there is going to be a root cause, and therefore fixable. But and the big but is hopefully it is only one item that has gone out of its design perameter and is at fault but as above it could be the sum of more than one part and this makes fault finding more difficult ( and expensive). Paul m.
