Thanks for coming back and updating this topic. Glad it was not something more serious ( expensive) with regard the spark plugs then they are at the 60,000 ( 6 year ) service point but generally can/do last a lot longer ( upto 100,000 miles) paul m

Pretty sure it was 'just' a reverse polarity situation with the battery but the car was not very forgiving and it incurred major damage to the electronics! Be careful out there people! Check, Double Check and Check again if you don't want to be in this painful/expensive predicament. paul m.

Is it still the original factory fitted Panasonic battery in your car? ( I'll be amazed if it is!) If yes then You have well had your money's worth out of it! Not sure on the spec of the battery for the DERV but the OEM Panasonic in my 250 gave up after about 11 years and I went for the Bosch S4 068, it is the biggest battery that will fit and has the terminals in the correct posistion, Even though it does not come up when using car part sellers search box! If not then the one you have should / may have a date stamp on it somewhere in the format of 42/13 for week 42 of 2013 or some other obvious format, note Bosch use a code system, see my post towards the end of this thread here, -

Check this vid , These points should be checked as well as the infamous slide pins. Note: for 'Rotors' read Disc's and note that your pad/clips and fixings will look slightly different ( think it was a IS 350 used in video) -

The IS has a known re-occuring problem with its calipers, the slide pins can become siezed in posistion not allowing the caliper to 'float' and move posistion very slightly to allow for pad/disc wear. if caught early it can just be a case of stripping down cleaning and regreasing the pins and all is good but if left too long pins can be beyond repair. it is a shame as this very easy and simple procedure is not in any Lexus service schedule and Lexus themself will not strip clean and regrease but reccomend new cailpers ( ouch £££'s) so a good indie should be able to 'repair' the calipers at a first port of call and getting new calipers is a last option. First port of call gotta be giving the brakes a good going over, quite simple technically but not if your a novice perhaps. Please don’t be going into Halfrauds or KwikRip with these symptoms unless you got a spare ‘Arm and a Leg’. if you’re adept with (and have) some spanner’s then plenty of ‘how to’ videos on Utoob concerning IS brakes, if not then a good indie should be able to sort this easily notwithstanding Lexus of course in you have got a fat wallet or had 5 numbers come up on lotto! paul m -

My Japanese is a bit rusty Hhhmmmm! Bit would I be right in guessing that that sticker is 'saying' something along the lines of, Inspect at 15,000km ( 9,000 Miles), Then every 12 Months,. And Replace at. 50,000 km ( 30,000 Miles) And At 100,000 km ( 60,000 Miles) Which is the point you are now at? paul m. Just used google translate and it comes back as this. -

if you have doubts about the soundness of your battery ( and a failing battery can throw all sorts of weird and wonderful seemingly unconnected faults at you) then I ( along with lots of others on here) can reccomend the Bosch S4 068 Model, physically it is a tight a fit as you can get and has a capacity of 70aH and 630CCA. At the moment ( for the next 7 days actually) it can be got for £80. I would expect the brake pedal to 'go hard' as the car is not starting ( no vacuum assist) and hydraulic system is now 'pumped up' when engine starts pedal will be normal again. -
No problem, have a read of this and you might just drive on past Halfrauds/KwikRip next time!

Hi, firstly please don't be taking your car into Halfrauds and thinking you are going to get it 'serviced' to the same level as if you took it to Lexus! It sounds as though you kinda prize your car ( why do I say this? because you are on here talking about it for one ) so it is wise to find a indie garage that you can build a relationship with and get a better service from like you are trying to do. ( sorry can't help any in your location) As for the grinding noise then yes, brake back plate can be the culprit and very easily fixed. Was it Halfrauds who told you it was this? ( If it was seen by Lexus at service time they prob would have sorted it!) As the backplate 'moves' with the hub so should be touching the disc all the time really, not just on full lock, may be a hose or cable involved somehow? Need to have a look sooner than later I reckon, that's if you are confident in tackling this of course, if not I reccomend you continue to have you car serviced at Lexus for piece of mind and know it will be done to the highest standards. As for the HV circuitry then it is not going to be in that immediate location if you wanted to have a look at the offending backplate, prob gonna take longer to jack up car and remove wheel than it is to do the fix! cheers Paul m.

Less than 2 mins digging brings up the fact that car is advertised with having 88,000 miles and in fact it went through a MOT on 11/03/19 with 90,000. paul m.

Please do some 'homework' on this before taking the plunge, +1 on going for the 250 instead and save yourself from the headaches that are commonplace on this forum regarding the 220D. Paul m. -
Can I ask what Lexus Dealers it was that carried out this work? ( as your location is showing as Non-UK) Because it is Nice to see that the problem was attacked in a logical and thorough manner, without just throwing parts at it. You could quite easily have been charged for Air Filter Element & MAF Sensor replacement for example, And as the car is now running as it should you probably would have swallowed the additional costs. paul m.

If there is some kind of entrapment detection system ( and I would expect so! ) for the convertible mechanism then There might be a 're-setting' procedure, even if you have not needed to use it in the past. paul m.

With your driving pattern it's probably trying to do a regen when you get onto the open road, but as your journeys are very short it is not completing the regen and you might find it goes into limp mode ( with EML's) at some point because it has failed to achieve it too many times., one thing I would do ( but there again I would never have a diesel!) is to take it on a good run ( constant throttle) for at least An hour and see if that makes a difference. plenty of posts on this forum containing same problem..... Important Note: Please check your engine oil level ( via dipstick) to ensure that the level has not Increased as a side effect of failed regens can be diluted engine oil. Paul m.

After a battery dis-connect on Lexus the full function of the electric windows and moon(sun)roof will not be available until a 'resetting' is carried out. This procedure should be in the owners manual and is pretty straight forward. Depending on your model Windows will be something like operate each window with its own switch from approx half open and close keeping switch held down for 2 seconds after fully closed. Owners manual will explain the exact procedure for you car. paul m.
