Don't be distracted by this speed limiter thing because that is only part of the proposal, the fact is the media monkeys used this as the headline to attract attention ( like they do ) but what you should really be worried/annoyed/talking about is this aspect,

  7. Ok...but the front joint(s) does not appear to have spring loaded bolts in this diagram?

Haven't had the pleasure of getting intimate with my exhaust yet ( and I don't want to for as long as poss) but that joint looks like it might be a sort of 'ball & socket' joint and therefore held together tight but with some flex by the spring loaded bolts but might not contain a gasket as such. ( scurries off to find breakdown of exhaust components......) So...There Is a gasket ( Pt No17451-31012 ) in that joint and the spring loaded bolts need tightening up to 32 ft/lb. paul m.

  10. Sorry but No, no sense what so ever. It would be almost impossible to fit the master cylinder mis-aligned and how did the Master Cylinder come into the equation anyway? paul m.
  11. You may not have noticed it before but most cars, when AC is on the (or a) fan runs constantly, thinking about it then AC is normally used when the ambient temperature is up and it makes sense to cool the condenser for the AC system if it warmer outside to assist its cooling effect. paul m.
  12. That is prob what is gonna happen if this job is taken on but at the time to the customer it was probably 'bigged up' a bit to make it sound like it was an involved job! You know the score. And yes if you or I were there then we would have questioned this procedure. paul m.

So now you have 'invested' in fixing the calipers and exhaust then it should serve you a good while yet and I would not be thinking about selling now its 'sorted', if you had a BM or a Merc you'd be spending like this a lot more often I know. Enjoy... Note: that is prob gonna be the cheapest fix for a 12 year old exhaust problem! paul m.
  14. Fingers crossed for you but expect to have to replace it at the first sign of it failing as it will not recover well if flattened for any reason. But look after it and it may well go on a while longer yet, Quality battery in a quality car. If it does show signs then I recommend the Bosch S4 for about £80. ( other batteries are available !!! ) paul m.
  15. My money is on the valves in some way not being 100% perfectly air tight actually, as the chances of all four tyres not sealing correctly on refurbished wheels is pretty slim! paul m.

Note, The PO-40 was a after-market module developed by an Austrailian clever clogs and manufactured in the Far East somewhere, it was sold via a very limited site and is sadly no longer available as the developer/seller has moved on I guess. So I don't think that you are going to be able to help with this one! paul m
  17. No, you have not been lucky, the 200d is a different beast to the 220d. August 2010 Lexus IS undergoes its most significant revisions since the current generation model was launched in 2005. Changes for the 2011 model year formally revealed at the Paris motor show, are not simply a matter of sharper styling: Lexus has gone to the heart of the ownership experience to make the IS an even more appealing prospect, not least to those choosing it as a company car. Central to this strategy is the introduction of the new IS 200d, which delivers improved fuel economy, lower emissions and reduced tax bills. Replacing the previous IS 220d, it is available to order now, priced from £24,350 (IS 200d SE) on the road. The V6 petrol engine featured in the IS 250 and IS 250C coupe-convertible with six-speed automatic transmission has also been revised to meet future Euro5 emissions standards, achieving better fuel economy and CO2 emissions with no penalty in performance. Focus of the styling changes is the F-Sport grade, which now echoes even more loudly the looks of its ultra-high-performance sister, the IS F, to strengthen its appeal among younger drivers. Meanwhile all IS models equipped with high-intensity discharge (HID) headlights gain LED daytime running lights and across the range there are new wheel designs, new rear light designs and a revised choice of exterior colours. Replacing the previous IS 220d, the new IS 200d delivers stronger fuel economy, lower emissions and a more refined and smoother drive. The new 148bhp version of the 2.2-litre diesel engine benefits from detailed engineering revisions and is equipped with a diesel particulate filter (DPF) to meet Euro 5 emissions standards and enhance the engine’s driving quality. The changes include a re-shaped combustion chamber and the use of new-generation piezoelectric fuel injectors to give a more efficient, cleaner and complete fuel burn. Pressure in the common rail injection system has been increased. a higher flow exhaust gas recirculation valve has been introduced and the adoption of a new oil-cooled, variable nozzle turbocharger improves torque performance at low speeds and cuts overall engine noise. Maximum power of 148bhp is delivered at 3,600rpm, with peak torque of 340Nm on tap from 2,000rpm, allowing for nought to 62mph acceleration in 10.2 seconds. Combined cycle fuel consumption is 55.4mpg and emissions are 134g/km, compared to 50.4mpg and 148g/km for the IS 220d. As well as saving money at the pumps, owners enjoy a lower annual road tax charge – Band E rather than F for Vehicle Excise Duty. For company car tax payers there is a further bonus in the reduction of the Benefit-in-Kind tax rating from 21 to 18 per cent for the new model.For the 2011 model year the IS 250 becomes and automatic-only model, with revisions to the powertrain that ensure compliance with Euro 5 emissions standards. Power and torque are unchanged from the super-smooth V6 are unchanged at 205bhp and 252Nm, but combined cycle fuel consumption improves from 31.7 to 33.6mpg, with a concurrent fall in CO2 output from 209 to 194g/km. As a result the model’s BiK tax rating is cut from 30 to 27 per cent.
  18. No Problem......and no matter how good their coffee & biscuits are the telephone number bill at the end of day is gonna hurt! So having spent a good bit of money on it then if you continue to 'keep on top' of niggles then it's gonna last you a good long while yet I would like to think. Shame about having to replace the calipers ( pads and discs are expected) as this is preventable if inspected/cleaned/lubed on a regular basis ( even though it is not a Lexus service item) paul m.
  19. This probably highlights the need to do some research before buying, they prob thought that Diesels were better on fuel and the only difference was you had to use a black hose at the garage. Yes back in the early day of mass produced fleet cars ( early 80's I think Ford pushed their 1.8 DERV's "Quiet-Quick & Clean" was the promo tag line ) they were 'more user friendly' you could even run them on veg oil, but now, for obvious reasons, there is a lot more ancillary equipment fitted to try and deal with the fact that they are not so Clean and this kit is primarily the cause of problems. The underlying heavy oil engine is still very good for what it does, it is a high torque, low revving workhorse that should run with a continuous constant heavy load for long durations ( hours, days or weeks even) , ie ships, generators or pumps and not in a Landy doing the school run for 8 mins ( with Stop/Start!) twice a day!   20. It's a fact really that some people actually throw themselves into their job and go the extra mile and some are just punching the clock and waiting for payday. You seem to have come across the latter in your quest for something that needs a bit of thought and effort. Just because they are the appointed dealership for the car sadly does not make them the ultimate experts as you have found out. You have done some research and found out a few things about your car and I bet you view these dealership employees differently than you did a while ago! paul m.

  22. As you probably already know ( that's why you mentioned it!) lots of short engine use journeys are not good for the longevity of, in particular the Exhaust, cars and their constituent parts. You have perhaps been behind a vehicle when it has made a forward movement and a noticeably large amount of liquid ( highly contaminated water really ) has poured out of its tailpipe! This liquid has accumulated due to condensation in the cold metallic exhaust from the hot engine exhaust gases. If the said exhaust does not get hot enough to evaporate this condensate then it is gonna build up, keeping exhaust cold ( not good) and rusting it from the inside out ( again not good). The engine block, exhaust manifolds and exhaust system on the IS is a lot larger than your average car ( straight 4 ) and therefore will take longer to get upto high enough temps to evaporate the condensate from its two large back boxes. Also the engine oil will prob need changing more frequently than the manufacture reccomends, as you can actually get condensation on the inside of the engine block and thus contaminate the engine oil. So regarding your observations, I reckon you have a holed exhaust or worst! The sound will be from the exhaust leaking somewhere, to what extent then inspection will tell, but the 'knocking' may mean it has become detatched somewhere! So I thoroughly reccomend inspection sooner rather than later as it may cause major damage to your or others cars! (Looking for previous example right now.....) paul m.

  25. This is the original fit Panasonic battery and this ( my old one) is dated 14/07/07.
