220d head gasket replacement diagrams Step by step
Texas replied to matteb's topic in Engine & Transmission
To be honest, even though this problem is common on the 220 I don’t think there are many owners ( Let alone on this forum) who actually take the job on and catalogue the sequence of events, I have a feeling some move onto a 250, some pay to have it done (oouuch £££‘S) and some leave the Lexus clan altogether! -
Likely he put a match to it and won’t go near a Lexus again!! Shame really because he opted for the worse car to ever wear an L badge and I urge people to do their ‘homework’ before choosing a car simply on the figures for running! hope it never went bad for him but lack of feedback might suggest he had a bitter taste after getting the news! paul m

Yes I guess so on the Speedo/Nav point. loads of options and settings to play with but I haven’t been through them all! just went out and checked the options for central display Speedo Clock Graphic equaliser Logo’s Sat Nav Compass/Altitude

Just went and checked, Dohhh it’s called Carlauncher by Agama! And was £1.99. The centre of the first pics is in fact a digital speedo!

Firmware you say?..... is that to take the VL upto 8.1? As I did purchase ( was about £11 iirc) 8.1 from a guy on the US owners site that came on a micro SD card but have not got round to upgrading yet as it is working just dandy at the moment and don’t wanna jinx it. Question? If I do the upgrade to 8.1 will I loose the Cargamma ‘skin’ I bought from the Gapps site ( was £1.99 I think) that makes the VL look a lot more upto date than the ‘blocky’ icons it defaulted to. paul m

Alternator
Texas replied to madasahatter's topic in Lexus IS 250 / Lexus IS 250C Club / Lexus IS 220D & IS 200D Club
“You did dis-connect at least one battery terminal for the Alternator change?” So I reckon there was a Major short at some point and the Main fusible link done it’s job but still leaves (somehow!) important circuits functioning ie external lights. Must have been a split second live to earth event during the alt change and this goes to show the importance of disconnecting the battery earth prior to any electrical circuit disturbance. The connection to the alt is permanently connected to positive of the battery even with ign off! -
Just ordered one for, hopefully not required, future use..... If it is fully functional as you say then For £19.25 it can sit on garage shelf just in case! paul m.

P2002 fault code
Texas replied to TheHairyBeast's topic in Lexus IS 250 / Lexus IS 250C Club / Lexus IS 220D & IS 200D Club
Yes it’s a dpf related problem, very common on the 220 and if the car is not driven, let’s say, ‘enthusiastically’ now and again it’s gonna occur. Do a search on this forum for ‘P2002’ and you will have plenty of reading material. You say you have ‘Techstream’ then try a forced regen. -
Yes the Lexus service schedule states 6 Years ( not really realistic if you only do super low miles per year, My Lexus only had 22,000 miles at the 6 year point!) Or 60,000 miles. But reading on the US Lexus owners website the OEM plugs can easily go to 100,000 without any problems.

Airbag light issue
Texas replied to Bongo's topic in Lexus IS 250 / Lexus IS 250C Club / Lexus IS 220D & IS 200D Club
If you do read codes and it comes back as B1861 then there was this recall and TSB in the us which narrowed the problem down to the passenger knee airbag connector playing up! https://www.clublexus.com/forums/is-2nd-gen-2006-2013/914303-intermittent-airbag-light.html#&gid=1&pid=1 -
Airbag light issue
Texas replied to Bongo's topic in Lexus IS 250 / Lexus IS 250C Club / Lexus IS 220D & IS 200D Club
Sometimes human nature likes to associate things together for simplicity or piece of mind, the two occurrences you are linking may be totally unconnected and this may impair your fault finding logic, especially as the two system you are mentioning are as similarly connected as the fog lights and the windscreen wipers! So as above, the OBD codes need to be viewed and as you say it was an 'Airbag' fault then it should be stored in the memory even if light is no longer showing. -
Alternator
Texas replied to madasahatter's topic in Lexus IS 250 / Lexus IS 250C Club / Lexus IS 220D & IS 200D Club
You did dis-connect at least one battery terminal for the Altenator change? I have just done some googling and it seems as though it is possible to dis-connect/dis-lodge the plug for the starter motor when handling the harness that attaches to the alternator! I have never had to get involved with this so don't know first hand and I'm not sure how this would account for you other electrical niggles ( earthing perhaps) but may account for the non-start problem! I'm still reading up on this..... -
Fingers crossed that nothing's actually broken, just a bit siezed up. I think it may be a good idea to run the tank down low a few times and then ( as above) use hot ( not boiling!) water to fill so perhaps cleaning any moving parts that ain't (moving) Also Don't be tempted to use say Fairy Liquid or any other type of 'kitchen' soap as it tends to congeal and clog up the built in filter that protects the pump/jet outlets.

Wow, what a palaver! Where to start.... Was the 'Old' battery that was removed the original factory fitted Panasonic black top/clear case type? Then if so yes you had your monies worth ( 10 years plus) out of it! So to start fault finding what you have now I recommend that everything is put back as it should be. Is there any chance that the battery terminals may have been connected up to the car with reverse polarity?

Help required please!
Texas replied to Joshis250's topic in Lexus IS 250 / Lexus IS 250C Club / Lexus IS 220D & IS 200D Club
If the have got wiper arm completely off and now you are looking at spline shaft and if no movement in this shaft when other side is moving then yes a linkage problem and very rare! -

Note. If you have an MOT due anytime soon then afraid this problem will be a failure point. -

is250 rough Idle
Texas replied to alankehoe's topic in Lexus IS 250 / Lexus IS 250C Club / Lexus IS 220D & IS 200D Club
Thanks for reporting back with the remedy, and glad it’s all sorted. Just goes to show that when replacing parts to try and cure a problem you cannot be absolutely sure the new part is 100% good and this then sends you down another road try to fix same problem as you assume new part cannot be problem anymore!!! Cars, Don’t you just love ‘em! Note, it might be worth giving the MAF sensor a quick clean ( simple enough job) with some spray cleaner, as at your mileage if it has never been done it might make a noticeable difference. -

Will an IS250 run without the entertainment system connected?
Texas replied to baviaannl's topic in Engine & Transmission
As above yes car will start and run but iirc I think the cabin heater fan runs constantly for some reason but I might be wrong! Paul m.
