Here’s a decent ‘how to’ no 'special' tools required though, seemingly a lot of parts to remove to actually get to the plug positions but the cooling and AC systems do not have to be touched.

Problem is the slide pins on said calipers, they do need regular ( ideally every 6 months) maintainance to keep them free moving but alas this is not a detailed item in any service schedule so it is a case of 'When and Not if' unless you state specifically to have it done at service time or do it yourself.
-
That saved me looking 😀 I think I would find the time to get it done for £600 less! Besides knowing it was actually done properly to say the least! If they have an inkling that you haven't got time to do it yourself then the price might even go up! To be honest I would actually want to do it myself for the reason above and as we know the Caliper pins need regular greasing to keep the seizing at bay but don't expect this to be done unless specified or requested ( even then if caliper do stick in near future can you dis/prove it was indeed done?

Condensation in Headlight
Texas replied to Wombleman's topic in Lexus IS 300h / IS 250 / IS 200t Club
Need to check headlight for damage as if you do dry it out it will only reoccur. Look for stone chip/hole in glass, damage to seal between glass and plastic case and any gaskets/seals on the bulb access panels. Water/ moisture laden air is getting somewhere and condensating with temp changes. There is a hole to atmosphere somewhere causing this problem. Note: if you have an MOT due anytime soon it may very well fail. Paul m. -

Alternator
Texas replied to madasahatter's topic in Lexus IS 250 / Lexus IS 250C Club / Lexus IS 220D & IS 200D Club
Plenty of info on YouToob! Looks quite doable at home ie you do not have to disturb AC system and contrarily to some do not have to disturb cooling system either, looks like biggest pita part is the rear bracket fixing. Oh and Do Not forget to dis-connect battery! paul m. -
New battery

Hope it was only about £80 after using their discount code! You should never pay ECP Mickey Mouse list prices! So 5 years out of a battery G’teed for 4 is OK I guess a bit unlucky but 5 is longer than 4! Bosch do have a S5 battery but not stocked or available everywhere and obs a bit dearer, In effect you paid £20 per year so if you can get a S5 for £100 or less go for it. paul m -
Please Do Not get a 220! It is the worst car ever to wear a L badge and it will be a completely opposite experience to when you owned the LS. Have a quick search on this forum ( mainly in the Engine / Gearbox section) to see the number of problems that get reported from DERV owners. Here is a tale of woe and all to common a story, don't let it be you!
-
Cut your losses and go for a 250 ( none of the DERV problems) if you like this model of car.
-
At that sort of mileage then As the Altenator was the original factory fitted one ( I believe it was, come on it's a LS have the faith) then I personally would have liked to see/replace the brushes as these are a wear item and easily replaceable ( not sure on the actual removal of the Altenator in the first place though!) Thats why it's an 'Exchange Item' spare part as the fix could cost pennies! paul m.

Lost Key
Texas replied to Gman92's topic in Lexus IS 250 / Lexus IS 250C Club / Lexus IS 220D & IS 200D Club
It never get confirmed that you can get a key (coded and working for your car) for £220. Not surprising really. the poster who stated this only posted 9 times so not a regular user and has not been on here since 2015! -
That's the kiddie, I printed that out when I went car shopping as you may tend to forget points, having said that when I stood in front of the one I have now I sort I knew I was having it due to the Moonroof and ACC not to mention it only had 38k miles! It looks like a scary list of faults/niggles but you won't find them All on one car! ( Hopefully) paul m.

If you get use to using the Adaptive Cruise control then go very careful if at some point in the future you use 'normal' cruise control as you will obviously not slow down when approaching vehicles!!! Don't ask me how I know this as I want to forget the moment!!! paul m.

100k is as good a point as any to change the aux drive belt seeing that there is no actual set time/mileage in the Lexus schedule! It first makes mention to a visual inspection at 72 Mths/60,000 Miles then every 18 Months/15,000 Miles ( obviously replace if deteriorated in any way )but no actual periodical replace point! paul m.

There used to be a link at top of this section for a “Buyers Guide” but I can’t seem to find it now!

The thought of changing a fully functioning part ( I know at the moment!) I think is ridiculous, will you consider changing Starter motor also? As this could leave you stranded ( but with lights still working) I do read the US owners site and yes they seem to have a lot of Alternator failures but then understand that there are considerable more IS models on the road over there than here and also some of the states concerned are very much hotter than here and heat is the enemy of any electrical component! paul m

Calipers won't go if you look after them by lubing the pins every 6 months ( couple of hour job at a leisurely rate) but alas it is Not a Lexus recognised service point so won't get done by them, they will just wanna fit new ones ( whole calipers) when ( not if ) they sieze. Good choice of car and I don't think you'll be spending loads on maintaining it, I have heard some Lexus dealerships in the US shut down their Parts Dept cause they just wasn't selling enough to warrant running it! Water pump is ££££'s at the dealers obs but genuine pump can be got for about £120-150 and if you are handy with spanners it is quite doable by home mech. And you are right, steer clear of the DERV, even if someone gives it to you for nothing it won't be a bargain!

IS 250 Boot wont open ??
Texas replied to Zuke's topic in Lexus IS 250 / Lexus IS 250C Club / Lexus IS 220D & IS 200D Club
In case you didn’t know that is the ‘Valet’ function for the boot. If/when you use valet parking then you are supposed to ‘lock’ bootlid via that switch in glovebox then lock glovebox lid with key blade out of key fob, you then keep key blade with you when valet service parks car using fob ( now without key blade) and they will not have access to the boot!
