Change odometer from miles to kilometers
matt8 replied to BrunoLeal's topic in Lexus IS 300h / IS 250 / IS 200t Club
I just tested my F Sport, switched it to KM/H (speed and fuel economy measures) but the odometer remained in miles per hour. Couldn't see how to switch odometer from miles to KM. -
You use this for speed cameras I assume. Not just as a speed indicator. Seems expensive for what it is. And £29.95 a year to subscribe to updates. Ouch. My dashcam from Thinkware has built in speed camera alerts and provides the updates for free. Not sure what costs are associated with obtaining or collating such data.

Planned replacement of 12v battery
matt8 replied to darrude's topic in Lexus IS 300h / IS 250 / IS 200t Club
Good question. As well as everyone else's ideas, I'd be particularly interested in hearing from @Britprius on this matter. How well can a trickle charger extend life of a battery? -
Maybe you want one of these if speed is so important to you: https://ebay.us/2AW3zD

I too find it hard to believe... Any more detail? What specifically is wrong with the engine and hybrid system? I mentioned to my indie and he said he'd have a look for you if you could get it to him. He's always up for a challenge. DM me if you like. -

Prior to new MOT changes that came into effect in May this year, if your existing MOT had not passed expiry date, then it was still a valid MOT certificate and the failure did not revoke that. New rules since May makes things tougher. https://www.moneyadviceservice.org.uk/blog/new-mot-vehicle-test-may-2018 A dangerous fault under new rules means it must come off the road right away and any time left on the existing MOT is revoked. It cannot be driven until repairs done and a pass is re-issued. They can't hold you hostage, you have every right to leave with your car. You need to take your car away on a trailer to do it legally. If not and you get caught (or the garage reports you) then you can get a hefty fine, a ban and are driving illegally (and uninsured as your insurance isn't valid without an MOT). It's worth noting that possession of a valid MOT certificate is not proof your car is roadworthy. -

Agreed, regardless of no explicit authorisation, the failed promises and commitments to be in touch are very poor. So, that was Toyota Isleworth? Before contacting Lexus UK, I'd let them know you're not happy and that you intend on complaining. Use this as leverage to get better than you would have, had everything gone to plan. Lower labour cost on repairs perhaps. Give them a chance to sort it. If they don't, then take it to Lexus UK. -
Money Saving Expert recently announced a conclusion from their research. The optimal time to buy your insurance is 21 days in advance of when you want your policy to start. The closer you order to policy start date, the more urgent it is. 21 days and the providers know they need to be more competitive as you've got time to shop around. 21 days was better than 30 days for some reason.

When in EV Mode and in eco, I can get just into the 'power' section of the dial without it deactivating EV Mode. Pressing too hard, too quick will kick it out of EV Mode. But pressing it gradually and allowing the car to accelerate slowly keeps it in it. I used to use it a lot. It goes up to 30mph before deactivating due to excessive speed. In the summer however, I use it less as I can ensure the green EV Symbol (not EV Mode) stay on for longer, and goes up to 45mph ish. Gimmick? I wouldn't say so. Good for moving away quietly (if driving off early morning and don't want engine to fire up till you've moved away from the house). If yours doesn't stay on very long and you really are being gentle (which it does require) then you may have a faulty one indeed.

Thanks Wakhtar Just changed to 1.3 and will report back after trying it in the car later.

I was running Android 8.0 and 8.1 without trouble and had the browse button working just fine. I'm now on Android 9.0 as of a few days ago. Perhaps that's the culprit rather than the firmware. I'm using a Pixel 2.

I noticed today that the firmware has removed a feature. So far, I can't see anything new or any benefit, and some glitches I had hope were fixed are not (the volume up / down causing tracks to restart, etc.) When playing music via phone, I used to be able to browse playlists using the mouse (select another playlist, see a list of songs). That browse button is now missing from the interface. I'm using an Android device with Google Play Music. Disappointed. Can we roll back firmware?

Looks good. Any further opinions from others? Looks like it only covers accidents when you're not at fault. What happens if it's ruled your fault at conclusion I wonder. EDIT: Maybe not all that good after all: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.php?t=5173542

Is that safe? If parking up on a road (which you may not do often, but can't say you never will), people will need to use their wing mirrors for getting out of their car safely; to have a look at what's coming from behind. Cars, bikes, etc. If they're already folded in, safety is compromised. I doubt such a feature is available from the dealer. I've not seen it in Techstream as an option, and not sure how else it would be enabled.

Flat battery - surprising
matt8 replied to BaransuIS250's topic in Lexus IS 300h / IS 250 / IS 200t Club
I'd recommend a CTEK MXS 5.0, I use this on my Is300h. It comes with one of these too, giving easy access to the battery. Saves pulling the battery panel off in the boot, and connecting to both terminals each time you need a charge. https://www.halfords.com/motoring/bulbs-blades-batteries/battery-chargers-jump-starters/ctek-comfort-connect-eyelet-m8 It's good to keep the battery topped up regularly, especially as it's so small and your mileage is limited. @Britprius was very helpful in giving me advice before I purchased one of these. -

You have to be on your knees outside the car to see the switch. It runs almost parallel to the floor. -

Nice! How much was the part in the end? And how much did Lexus want? -
Did the update tonight folks. Struggled at first. The memory sticks I was using were not being detected by my vehicle. I eventually got it to work. Firstly: My 32GB USB 3.0 key did not work (Samsung) Secondly: My 8GB USB 2.0 key did not work (SanDisk) Finally (succeeded): My freebie, 10 year old, no name 4GB USB 2.0 key worked fine. I think it's important for the key to be 4GB or less.

Thanks for sharing! Great to see how it's all done.

I thought it was worse than that - that the textured ring had come off and you were left with something with a metal stalk like: As mentioned, are you sure it's not down the side between a seat? I'd consider leaving it for that cost, or trying to make something myself that fits. Not worth spending any serious money on it anyway! -
They were UK based as far as I could tell. I had a phone conversation with one and had no thought that they may be abroad.

The dealer I purchased from, I was disappointed with. I had some concerns at a later date that I raised with Lexus UK. I was underwhelmed and felt the lady I spoke to didn't care that much. I was referred straight back to the dealer to sort the matter (which is why I spoke to Lexus in the first place) and she sung their praises, telling me they are fantastic. In the back of my mind, I thought she may have a personal friendship with some of the guys at the dealership. Yes, Lexus UK want to keep us customers happy, we buy their cars after all. But they certainly don't want to come down like a ton of bricks on dealers who sell their cars to us. The dealer exists, selling Lexus vehicles I assume, because they chose to do so. If they repeatedly rain hell on dealers to resolve a matter or to demonstrate going the extra mile for customers (only where that is warranted of course), they may pull the plug. Lexus are a niche vehicle compared to Ford, etc. and so dealers may be inclined to switch their efforts to other manufacturers in future, if Lexus are too heavy handed. A Ford dealer getting reprimanded however may be less inclined to switch as they probably sell so many (or know there is potential to sell so many, as there's a larger market for them) It feels dealers have Lexus UK by the balls in some respects, especially larger dealers with multiple sites, who are important to Lexus in the UK. A bit of a conflict of interest really. Lexus UK need to keep us customers happy, but also their dealers. My two cents.
