  1. Boy, you love the handbook!
  2. The gas or refrigerant used in our cars are different from what I have read here previously. I think trusted is a very important word here.
  3. Some devices can be very particular about what memory sticks it likes. I'd say, try a few more USB sticks. Can you borrow from friends? Perhaps an older one that is USB 2.
  4. How do these work? And at what cost? Any damage possible? Warranty void? Increased fuel consumption?
  5. I believe @ColinBarber has a good recommendation for alignment. From what I understand, there is a more optimal setting than what Lexus configure them from as they roll out of the factory.
  6. Not used it as I've had no issues recently, but I've heard it is very good and is very effective.
  7. Indeed! Bristol, Cardiff, Tunbridge Wells, Canterbury, Gatwick and Maidstone. Cardiff sorted the issues with preparation condition after much pressure but it shouldn't have occured in the first place.
  8. Does anyone know where the ducts are on the Is300h and how to check they are clear?
  9. No apologies needed Stuart! I was just making a comment in case someone esteemed Cardiff in a better light because of what you'd said, when in fact, I believe it is not a decision the dealership ultimately makes.
  10. Lexus Cardiff is irrelevant, I understand that all warranty claims are authorised by Lexus rather than the dealer. If anything, these dealerships will be happy to undertake a warranty claim, it's another job to book in and charge for, at no expense to the owner. My buying experience at Lexus Cardiff fell below expectations and although resolved to nearly full satisfaction, it took time and chasing on my behalf.
  11. Its worth traveling for a good dealer. So we have a few who we know to avoid, but who are the ones we all rate?
  12. I've got this, but a Nextzett brand. I am now seeing Sonax. What's the difference, if any?
  13. There's map versions and firmware versions. I wonder if your firmware isn't as up to date?
  14. I too leave mine running all year round, and had no problems. Then Covid came, I did not use my car for an extended period, and then the smell started shortly after. I have purchased this but am yet to use it: https://www.lexuspartsdirect.co.uk/parts/lexus-ux/lexus-ux-2018-present/lexus-ux-cooling-heating/lexus-air-conditioning-system-cleaner/
  15. Air expands as it heats, so it's probably correct. I too was wondering if I should deflate my tyres a bit due to heat. Have no idea how much pressure can change based on temperature.
  16. Is it recommended to clean these sensors proactively and regularly? My understanding is that a dirty sensor can impact fuel economy.
  17. Indeed they use capacitors. From my understanding, you connect the pack to the battery and it draws power slowly into the capacitors (a couple of minutes), ready to unleash it when you begin to start (crank) the car. Although the energy is available in the battery, it cannot deliver it in a sufficiently short space of time to crank the starter motor. The capacitor stores it and delivers it in a way the depleted battery cannot. They do not work in hybrids because the engine is not cranked in order to start. It draws the power in the same way the capacitors would attached to battery-less jump pack. Therefore, it makes no difference filling up the capacitors. Someone else may explain this more elegantly than me, but I'd choose a capacitor jump start pack over a battery one. Of course a capacitor one would be useless if the battery was truly flat, but that is unlikely in a conventional car.
  18. Understandably though? We're trying to solve a problem (the flaw of batteries discharging) with you guessed it... Batteries! I worry about lithium ion batteries being left in the extreme heat and extreme cold of a car. I can't think that they'll retain their charge very long, neither will their lifespan be significant with the extreme temperatures and constant heating and cooling (or constant cold in the winter). I'll keep trickle charging for now I think. But always open to new ideas and better ways!
  19. I'm sure they work well when they do. But a battery left in the glove compartment unused will be dead when you really need it the most. I looked into these battery-less starters but they aren't suitable for hybrids (as the hybrid doesn't crank): https://www.manomano.co.uk/p/sealey-e-start800-electrostart-batteryless-power-start-800a-12v-3098531 I want a solution but am not yet convinced the ones you mention Herbie will be useful when I need it the most. My approach thus far has been to trickle charge the battery if I haven't driven it for a while.
  20. Not sure if it's mini USB or micro USB that you've got, on the Roav, but there's no need to convert it to a 12v cig socket. As Jay said, hardwire kits are available from specific manufacturers, but there are plenty of generic. E.g.: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Dash-Hardwire-Charger-Cable-Cameras-Black/dp/B0789G3QT8
  21. Rather than using a socket, many people cut into the wires and power them off existing circuits. Or less invasive, using fuse taps to tap into the fuse box:
  22. Many people hardwire them. Not using the cigarette socket then. I like to reserve my cigarette socket to add USB ports. The two in the car are not very powerful and do not charge phones very quickly.
  23. It's Michelin on offer at the moment, but probably Goodyear's turn at some point in the next 2-10 weeks. https://secure.viewer.zmags.com/publication/8c5ca6ab#/8c5ca6ab/21
  24. It was quite a story with Costco. They have a traffic light system. In stock, available to order (guaranteed arrival), and available to order (may not arrive) Policy is that they don't let you order tyres that may not arrive. Too many complaints about tyres not arriving. Only a few days left before the offer ran out, so I wanted to order and take advantage of the discount. Tyre man said he'd had specific instructions from his manager (tyre bay man) to not allow orders, based on strict instructions from the warehouse manager. It just so happened the warehouse manager walked past the desk and I asked him for an exception on the basis that: the front tyres were available guaranteed to be delivered; that they were on offer and the offer was about to run out; and that I promised I wouldn't kick up a fuss if it took 3 months to arrive, or possibly even not at all. He gave in and gave the nod to have them ordered. They arrived a week later. It's hard sourcing tyres for our rear IS wheels! The fronts are no problem!
