  1. For me it's not so much the risk of scuffing wheels when we go away but the difficulty of finding a parking space where some idiot cannot park right up close to me and stop me getting in the driver's door. Oh well, it was the same with my DB9.
  2. Have a look at this:
  3. As it is makeup. why not try a removal pad for mascara etc. If it's safe for a girl's face then it should work on vinyl. We occasionally get white finger marks from makeup on our leather seats and door trim but it comes straight off with leather treatment.
  4. Yes, very good. I only manage about 29mpg on a good long run. Did you check this by brim-to-brim measurement or is this from the car's readout? I have had mine since Feb 18 and my real (measured by actual litres and mileage) mpg overall has been 24.6. The car computer gives about 4% to 5% better mileage than actual.
  5. When I have used a trickle charger on my LC500 I used the underbonnet points which, as noted above, are in the passenger side fusebox. The positive pole is a direct connection to the battery in the boot. You can connect the negative to any bare metal point on the chassis. Beware to get the polarity correct!
  6. I had Glasscoat on mine from new. The car always looks shiny and, as said above, is very easy to clean. After a wash and in the sun the Sonic Red gleams.
  7. Yes, I know what you mean. I used to have a CL500 and this and the new S500 Coupe are big heavy things and not very stylish. The 8 Series BMW just looks pretty much like all other BMWs. Enjoy.
  8. I had my alignment reset by my Lexus dealer when my V8 went in for its 2 year service. There were only very slight adjustments made and the printout from their fancy machine shows it was reset exactly to nominal. The car runs very slightly to the left (in the UK) down the camber of the road but on a flat surface rolls exactly straight ahead. The steering wheel is very slightly turned to the left under these conditions, by eye, about half as much deflection shown in your photograph. I think this has got slightly worse as the tyres have worn but it is only very marginal and I don't worry about it.
  9. Interesting about the Nav reset. My experience has been that the map scaling seems to randomly reset and it does not remember the scaling you set last time. Not a major issue but why?
  10. As far as I know they are all E5 as in my post above.
  11. I have used 97, 98 and 99 octane E5 fuel and all types work exactly the same as far as I can tell. I am getting about 28mpg on these fuels on longer (50 mile) trips, cruising in traffic plus a few blasts to keep me interested.
  12. I have received a message from Lexus UK asking me if I want to "reserve" a convertible LC500 for the autumn. Just £5,000 down now and the rest of the £100K later (but you can cancel at any time). Any takers? Any cars to see in the UK yet? I am not convinced about soft tops as I had a Merc SL500 and really didn't have the roof down that much.
  13. Yes, I have noticed this change in operation at about 10,000km (6,000mls) on several new cars I have had. Do the manufacturers program the ECU to change mode after a running in period?
  14. I have spoken to a few people with Tesla Model 3s and they all say they got them on the company to take advantage of the tax break. I din't like to ask if they would have got them without the incentive but I suppose that is what incentives are for. (To make Elon Musk richer).
  15. Any issues with the higher ethanol fuel having a lower specific energy than "pure oil"? Higher fuel consumption possibly?
  16. I have typically found that pressure rises about 0.2 to 0.3 bar from "cold" to "hot" (just after running). If we say this normally represents a temperature rise from 15degC to 35degC then you get some idea of the shift in pressure with temperature.
  17. Please see:
  18. Having had a DB9 for 12 years from new, I can tell you that the build quality is second division compared to the LC500. The Aston always felt fragile whereas the Lexus feels bomb proof. However, I think that the new ones are a bit better and more solid.
  19. You are sort of right but for different reasons to what you might imagine. If other LC500 owners are like me then a "racing high performance" version of the LC is not what you are looking for and holds little interest. If I wanted this type of car I would have bought a McLaren. The LC500 V8 is tons fast enough and I can hardly use the performance now let alone in an F version. You can also drive quietly and smoothly in traffic which is the case for 90% of the time. This is why an LC-F would be a bit pointless and has been shelved because it would be unacceptable to the target market (i.e. older "cruisers" who want a nice car and have the money). BTW, in the video, the rear wing is horrible. The wheels are quite keen though...
  20. I must say that when we had an IS300h this never caused a problem but now we have the NX it seems a no-brainer that Lexus should have fitted the lock sensors to all 4 doors on the IS and not just the fronts. The advantage of the current system is that there is no rubber button to split, leak or freeze.
  21. For the next few weeks I should buy a cheap jump start pack and use this on the underbonnet terminals to start the car. You don't need much current to boot up the computers and ABS and fuel pumps - say 30A max. This will let you start the car easily and requires little technical skill (no offence intended). The engine actually starts from the main traction battery. Take a look in the manual as the process is described in detail.
  22. You can change the display to show overall mpg since reset or since refuelling. Check out the display settings in the manual.
  23. I basically use EV mode for moving the NX on the driveway to avoid starting it up to move a few feet. Other than that, there is little point in activating it. I need to move the NX to get the LC out... 😄
  24. Do you know where the leak was from? I have not seen any leakage from mine - yet.
  25. Just a quick update on the suspension squeak noted above. It has reappeared but is no worse than before. I think it must be anti-roll bar bushes creaking as it only occurs when the suspension is unevenly loaded for example, when driving over an uneven surface with right lock applied. Of course, that is if the LC has anti-roll bars... (given that it has active suspension).
