  1. Be conservative and only allow space for 5mm at a time until the dust cover can be removed.

    Your brake pedal going hard is because the booster isn't charging with the engine off. This isn't a bad and will mean you will have more control to gently ease the piston out.

    Be careful tho as any miss calculation could easily have you pop the piston out.

    Keep your pinkies out of the way too!

  2. Steve, my GS sits for most of the week and has done so for a couple...then fires up on the button. 

    The 12v aux Battery is Panasonic so most likely original and I can't see any evidence within the LSH that indicates it's ever been changed.

    I wonder how much longer it will last?

  3. James, removing just the outer piston dust cover/boot will not cause brake fluid to leak out.

    You need to be careful to get the piston pushed out just far enough to re-seat the new dust cover and no more.

    The brake fluid is sealed by another inner seal.

  4. The central inlet plenum is quite fiddly to remove with a couple of awkward bolts on the back of the throttle body.

    You will also need a long reach allen bolt to get the plastic inlet off (preferably on a wrench as mine were too tight for an allen key to loosen). 

    I thought that I'd got all the buried bolts out but still kept finding another nestled down in the plastic #peskything

    The plenum gasket is rubber and I reused mine without reporting any obvious air leaks. 

    I've since sourced a replacement (Rockauto) and will probably fit that soon as I'm testing my VVT oil control valves (that also need the central/top plastic gubbins removed).

    The passenger bank also has a wiring loom running over the top of the coils, so unbolt it and ease it out of the way.  I think it's tight on the rear most, passenger coil/plug.

    As ours use coil on plug, then pop a drop of dielectric grease on the top of each plug.

  5. I've run the Hybrid Assistant a few times and although the information is very detailed it doesn't seem to easily show the health of the traction Battery.  Or maybe I'm missing something?

    The app has a specific traction Battery test but I haven't bothered as I have Lexus perform their annual health check (since it was extended to 15 years).

  6. Front, rear or both Nigel @scatman1963 ? 

    Didn't I read that you had trouble unlocking the rear toe adjusters ? - if so, then mine were locked solid too and caused wear on the inner rears down to the canvas.  I had to chop out the offending links and source replacements (Rockauto) along with adjuster bolts.  Rear tyre wear has been fine since, touch wood.

    I recall that you had a garage perform an alignment so they should be able to look up the correct settings for your vehicle.

  7. Hi Steve, welcome to the forum and congrats on your new to you Lexus.

    For the TPMS reset on the drivers side, check next to the OBD port - ref; 

    There is also another on the passenger side under dash panel.

    Maybe use a mirror as they are really well tucked under.

    There are several sets of OEM gs450h alloys on eBay at the moment but by the look of them they will need a refurb.

    Meanwhile, enjoy getting familiar with your new steed.

Just a quick update, as I don't want to hog Paul's thread...I've just given mine another run and it's not reporting any codes and ran fine.  As it wasn't quite topped up I popped a few glug's of oil in for good measure.  So I hope that my one off P0017 was due to shutting off and restarting after a weeks rested cold start.  I'll monitor it and will report back if anything changes as my mpg is slightly down which might be attributed to a bad OCV.

  9. Paul, did your pals with the Lexus software command each of the 4 cam oil control valves (OCV) and confirm they are operating as expected?

    The OCV's each have pre-filters that can clog, have they all been checked?

    Error codes P0017/18 relate to both banks and different sensors (inlet/exhaust) so maybe you have a couple of clogged OCV filters or slightly bad OCV's?

    Mine threw a CEL at the wkend for the first time after shuffling cars and on the second ignition on it threw a P0017.  It ran somewhat gruff at idle yet drove fine but I only took it to the end of the village before bottling it coming home/parking it up!  My car tends to sit all week so can run often rough at idle for a few seconds, especially during the colder months.

    I had planned in checking my OCV filters and valves yesterday but something more urgent cropped up. 

    I also need to recheck my oil level to ensure it's able to correctly feed the valves and cam phaser's.

  10. That's a neat installation John, well done.

    It's certainly cheaper than off the shelf pre-oiler's/accumulators from the likes of Accusump and Moroso.  I guess their additional costs come from the air/oil canister with an internal air/oil separator piston and maybe their switching valve/electronics?  There's a neat Moroso video on YouTube that shows the piston arrangement and how it operates during startup, during oil starvation, etc.

    Did you fit a oil pressure gauge during your initial trials?

    As ours vehicles are hybrids, how does your set-up cope with the engine on/off in quick succession? - I know mine can do that depending on the conditions. 

    You mention a simple set-up above, is yours any different with a timer/relay for emptying/filling the canister?
