  1. Welcome to the forum and congrats on sourcing yourself a very nice car (I may be somewhat biased). It's low mileage for its age, how does the MOT history look? I recently tweaked my clock whilst on the continent. I'll mull it over and let you know how to flip to a 24hr format. Meanwhile enjoy the ride and power under foot.
  2. Sounds familiar, I hadn't heard of Moog until recently. Fitted some of their drop links to another car and the warranty was better than anything else. The links appeared to be very well made. Not sure how well they lasted as I sold the car. A pal swears by them, as does his local auto factor.
  3. Gawd is that really how much the total bill could come to? Ah yes, the zoorst is pricey. I hope nobody clicks all the options, which then forces@ls400lpg to pay for the lot...
  4. John's right about the exhaust, the vid didn't justify why you'd need to replace the whole system just because of 1 joint leaking.
  5. Wow, that's the first time I've seen one of these Lexus reports. Thanks for sharing. The vid is all doom and gloom tho don't you think. The chap could do with adding some positives or at least g'ing it up a bit Fortunately the Report allows you to see the issues and costs to repair to help you decide on what do to. For instance, the front tyres still have some life left in them (1.6mm UK min across the tyre). There might be some play in the lower ball joint he tested, kinda difficult to see but the cynic in me (I trust very few folk) says he could have loosened the top nut before showing you. Especially as 3 other garages have said the joint is fine.
  6. If you already have the replacement lower ball joints then I'm surprised none of the garages offered to fit them. Especially as your car exhibits the symptoms. Although some are fickle about what parts they fit, so they can warranty their effort and they also could claim the VAT back if they sourced the components. Have the track rod ends and other suspension bushes been checked too? Does the Lexus video look compelling? Is it taken from your car? How much do Lexus want to install the parts? Can you install them yourself?
  7. Clunks, vibration and/or wandering/erratic steering. Why'd you ask, is your car doing something weird? *update: you replied at the same time I did... The joints can physically be checked with a pry bar from play/movement, does the Lexus video show any such tests/similar?
  8. Ah okay, some info here http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/topic/84541-aux-hack-test-points/ with links to several options over on the US forum. Good luck.
  9. Haha. Nah scenery, cars that sort of thing..
  10. May is when we often head up there as the weather is usually pleasant and its just before the midge season. For anyone heading up there, please put some scenery, car pic's online for us to enjoy.
  11. David, some belters in that vid. I felt sure that the microlite was doomed... Back to the filler cap, it sounds like some folks would benefit from a scan of the manual e.g. http://www.lexomans.com/manguide-619.html
  12. Like one of these? http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/252064531208?_trksid=p2385738.m2548.l4275&_mwBanner=1

Welcome to the forum JP. What did you drove before? Enjoy.
  14. Welcome to the forum. The GS look in good condition, what persuaded you to buy it? I realise it's early days yet but how are you finding it?
  15. Yes to the battery and I think so, provided I'm on crawling I can input a destination (rather than being stationary). The map update was the main thing, as many of my 'familiar' roads are new and weren't on the old DVD.
  16. I used http://www.latestsatnav.co.uk/ to update the satnag in my GS. It has all the countries I want on a single disk, unlike many of the other options. The chap was pretty quick to reply to emails if you have any queries (both before and after purchasing). Beware that many of the '3rd party' DVD's may need the 12v battery disconnecting in order for the new disk to work.
  17. These cars are also getting on a bit now much like their former owners (ahem). Nope, mine was completely stock and in great condition but we needed a more practical car at the time. Was yours tweaked?
  18. Mine was one of the last S14 Kouki / face lift models. It's not showing up in a vehicle check, so the trucker who bought her (with the heavy right foot) must have wrapped her too What was yours?
  19. Well done. Tech can be useful but it's often a right pain in the b*tt
  20. Ben, I think you'll find iPhones only work with WiFi OBD2 readers
  21. Cripes, the steering must have been really light on that drive Stuart...
  22. The car looks well smart in her all black tux, very slick. What made you select the wheel colour? - much to my surprise it kinda works. Crumbs a 200SX takes me back, what a great car. The gear change was amazing, was comfy, it handled well and had oodles of boost. Although I did get a little tired of the initial turbo lag and then moved on. The mrs and I still wax lyrical about it occasionally tho. Every time the mrs drove it some herbert wanted to race her #bigmistake Surely the 220d is crying out for a smooth Toyota straight 6.
  23. From 2008 theres a phono jack in the back of the center console. I don't think the earlier version had an easy option to hook up AUX. So folks either use a transmitter or a modified tape deck feed. Update: ah, I see John replied with this earlier...
  24. @Monocle considering the condition of the alloys before you started, I think you've done a sterling job especially as it was your first try. Well done. The amount of effort needed to get the job done right is not to be underestimated, as you found out. It takes hard work and lots of time to do them right at home.
