  1. Good, you just need to get used to the querks of the the CVT gearbox then. Effortless or 'lazy' driving as the Mrs calls it It's not a traditional auto but works really well. The CVT in the smaller bhp cars does tend to make the engine work hard for longer. Whereas in the bigger bhp cars the engine isn't at max rpm for long at all. Enjoy.
  2. Welcome to the forum Paul and Lexus ownership. What colour combo have you bought?
  3. If your car has the CVT gearbox then you won't experience 'normal' gear changes, the engine and box work together to smoothly propel you forward. Rev's shouldn't rise too much under normal driving. However if you smash the gas pedal to the floor then the engine revs will rise and stay high until you attain your cruising speed and easy/flit off. Then the engine revs should return to normal and waft you along. Is this how your car 'works'?
  4. The ventilation servos are known to cause noise from the center console. The drive cog works loose on the motor shaft which can cause chatter as the cogs turn out of sequence. A servo may also have failed. If the RX servo mechanisms are as complex as my GS then it's a real pain to work on. Good luck setting it sorted.
  5. Wow, that a big fuse. It must be as it says 'mega'! Does the car have an aftermarket stereo or amplifier fitted?
  6. In hilly Derbyshire today (battery max'd on the downhills) I reminded myself how good the Power setting is [emoji16] Hills are effortless on this mode vs Normal. I left it on all the way home, back to the flat lands of East Anglia (almost) and mpg's weren't much lower. Which then made me wonder...if folks find the Power or Sport modes dramatically affect their mpg? Provided they drive 'fairly' sensibly...
  7. Using Window's, Chrome by the way.
  8. I used to have to login every hour or so on my PC. But in the past week or two it's kept me logged in, which is much more convenient.
  9. Oh and here's some belt/chain info http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/topic/59071-timing-belt-on-is220d/
  10. Welcome to the forum. As you've already committed to the purchase, I'm surprised that you don't already know the approx mpg. But have a peek here http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/topic/73613-what-mpg-are-you-getting-in-an-is220d-se-l/ To update you satnav check here https://www.lexus-mapupdates.eu
  11. Good call, I'm also surprised that he doesn't have more subs. I've been watching more and more of his reviews and often find his observations are spot on. I even find that I can look past the American-isms. He's covered lots of Lexus models too, which is how I found him. Well worth a butchers.
  12. Phwaaaar what a great looking car and a fantastic colour too Well done. If it were mine, I'd be chuffed to bits. Enjoy your weekend and your new steed.
  13. Welcome to the forum with your handsome lookin' beastie, glad you're enjoying being wafted along.
  14. Well done, what's the colour/spec? But to truly believe you, we need photographic evidence
  15. @Goldberg, wow check out the roof Imagine that condensed over a few years with only occasional washes and no wax/sealant to act as a barrier. It had eaten well into the lacquer
  16. Ah okay, this 'feature' is new to me
  17. Found a neat feature on my GS today...parked up, closed the door and manually pushed in the wing mirror. On my return I forgot to pull out the mirror. When I started up the car, it automatically rotated the wing mirror back to the normal position. Clever Lexus.
  18. Haha, I know. As it started to become an increasing pile of parts I was shocked at how many and just how small the screw were! No spare screws were left over! AND it booted up first time with screen/keyboard/etc all working...much to our surprise. Those ribbon cables and fasteners are a devil to work. I also need to build up the courage to lift any data/pictures off it at some point...a job for a cold, wet evening me thinks. Does anyone know if Techsteam works on Ubuntu? - thinking aloud...as that OS works well on this old clunky laptop, unlike Vista #urgh
  19. Oh my, so you'll be selling your IS...with it's beautiful booty Good luck with your new steed.
  20. PSA: when using an old laptop for the first time in a loooooong while, first check that the DVD drive will eject a disk Use ANY old test disk and NOT one that contains new software you want to install! This DVD drive was embedded and not the drawer type, it didn't have an eject override and we couldn't force the release arm via a looped paper clip so needed a compete tear down to get into it. Fortunately YouTube came to the rescue and provided a tear down guide WITH info on putting it all back together again. To our utter amazement the laptop still works, apart from the defunct DVD player. It's still gawd awful slow tho so is destined for the scrap heap. This 'event' took up most of my evening but the glass of red afterwards tasted soooo good
  21. Also take a look at aCar for fuel logs, vehicle maintenance, etc
  22. Ahem, no comment
  23. I agree but SUV's seem to be the norm these days. Another point to consider is could you sell the VW later and not loose money or be stuck with it? The GS has plenty of rear leg room, we can have the grand kid in her seat and legs don't hit the front seat in it's normal position. So maybe keep in the Lexus sedan fold and get a GS250/300 (that has a bigger boot than the 450H) instead?
  24. Tough call Robb but I think you'll be taking a gamble. In the short term it may seem like a good deal but my concerns would be the potential expenses that could crop up anytime in the future. You may get lucky and never have an issue. You'll know better than I how these vehicles fair in the long run. Jap does tend to come with less risk, if only Lexus did an estate IS/GS eh. Would an RX be a better alternative for you? John's suggestion is sound, especially if you'll be able to sell your IS now and have cash spare. Flipping the VW in a few months will give you another financial return and off load the potential risk. But you'll then be looking at sourcing a replacement (again). Oh and yes...you're mental
  25. I saw some info online that suggests it might be possible to enable DRL's http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/index.php?/topic/112710-Has-anyone-pimped-their-(450h)-ride?#entry1009612 I have Techstream to check the settings but haven't got it working yet. Note to self...must try harder!
