  2. How time flies hey Andrew, it doesn't seem that long since your initial review. The GS still looks great and it's obvious that you've taken good care of her* (or 'it' for those folks that are sensitive to such endearments). It's such a shame that your local dealer didn't step up to the mark set by their inflated prices, from your comments they've clearly tarnished your experience. Regarding mpg...I average 35 across a good mix of roads/speeds but steady cruising at or slight above the legal limit sees high 30's/low 40's. If I drive around town all day with lots of stop/start, especially in winter then my mpg's will get pulled right down. I don't hoof it everywhere but do give her a good prod every now and then. Driving style, roads, traffic, etc will all play a part so we're bound to see quite different figures. The sport and power buttons in my car definitely make a difference to performance, even in normal mode it's no slouch. But I hear what you're saying about how other vehicles drive e.g. diesel's, they feel very different with plenty of low end grunt. Some are quite comical tho as the surge can run out after 1k rpm and then all you experience is lots of noise but little else. Your repairs seem pretty typical for an older vehicle and I'd wager that it's been much cheaper than if you'd had a BMW/etc. Anyhoo, it's always good to hear from you and fingers crossed to the next 12 months ownership and Lexus dealer #2. Oh and congrats expanding your Cost Centres aka ankle biters, CC's made me chorkle.

Added CPL (polarising) filters to my dash cam's and it's really cut back the glare from the dash Before This is the worse I've seen pre-CPL After I checked various vehicle angles we recorded yesterday and there's a marked improvement I still need to check different sun heights to decide if it's cut out all the glare #stupiddash
  4. Hi Grant, mine has also been reliable altho it did have a blowing exhaust which was replaced with a specialist mid/rear section at a fraction of OEM cost. The rear Y section often fails. Leaking dampers appear to be a favourite failure from the dealers, they tried to sucker me they they were fine and have covered almost 25k miles. Replacement rear calipers are another dealer item that often only need a clean/lube of the slider pins. Traction battery's are typically reliable and Lexus have recently extended their warranty to 15 years, you just need to have an annual health check. Horror stories of weak battery's are overdone IMO. If they do fail then 3rd party repairs can be found much cheaper than OEM. The rear boot is small, so take that into account. I'm very happy with mine and often enjoy trips to Europe.   5. Got the axle stands out this afternoon to investigate some rattles (that you hear with the window down/outside the vehicle). I found one heat shield fixing in the middle of the exhaust had corroded through and was delighted when the nut came off the stud. A large penny washer sorted that. Both rear brake stone guards are corroded through so they were bodged until I get replacements (or chop them off). Both rear brake sliders were re-lubed whilst I was there. I also found a spanner nestled in the OSR low control arm! It's quite rusty and been there since early December, when I replaced both rear toe arms I suppose that may have accounted for the odd rattle too I can't recall ever leaving tools lying around before, must be my age! Was too hot to be lugging a 3 tonne trolley jack around.

  9. James, the short answer is 'no'. Vehicles typically have 2 cooling fans dedicated to different duties mounted behind (or in front) the radiators at the front of the engine bay. One fan is triggered by the engine temperature and the other is controlled by the AC. The AC fan assists with pulling air through the condensing radiator and it will also pull additional cooling air through the engine radiator. Similarly the engine fan will primarily pull air through the engine coolant radiator but will also pull air through the AC radiator. These big fans share duties to some extent as they are positioned behind a radiator sandwich of engine radiator, AC condenser and in some cases also an engine oil cooler and maybe even a gearbox radiator. If the AC is off then one of the radiator fans will not operate. These fans can often be wired by the manufacturer to keep running for a few minutes after shutting the vehicle off. So don't be alarmed if one keeps running whilst you are walking away.

  12. Curious, I've not had an issue but I don't leave the OBD plugged in. If regen stops over a bump then perhaps the braking system/ABS is kicking in and then reverts to purely hydraulic braking?
  13. I as understand it, if you brake heavily then regen isn't as high/used at all as the hydraulic brakes are used. If you aren't going fast enough, then the hydraulic brakes are used. Also consider that if your traction battery is fully charged or has a high charge state, then less regen will occur. Otherwise the vehicle should regen pretty well. There's a nifty gadget you can install on your phone called 'Hybrid Assistant' that shows you when regen and/or brake are being used.
  14. The more expensive the vehicle then the higher the value of the % depreciation you loose just by driving it off the forecourt. Generally speaking vehicles can loose up to 40% of the value in the first 12 months, it varies across different makes/models. Personally that's too big a chunk of change that I couldn't justify 'loosing' these days.
  15. Check the dimensions, these are waaay bigger than a Halfrauds 2 tonne jack.
  16. Check SGS, I have one of their 3 tonne jacks and it's by far the most stable jack I've ever used - it's a beast. I really like the quick lift and dual piston set-up. I've used mine quite a bit over a few years now and it's still going strong.
