P0087 - low fuel pressure (very unhappy GS!)

Hi Jon, sorry to hear that you have trouble...normally the fuel filter would be a good starting point but I believe it's buried within the fuel tank so will not be easy to access. Isn't there a recall on the fuel pipes fracturing at the front of the engine? Yours is an '10 so could well have the later pipes fitted that aren't prone to leaking. Just out of interest, how old is your 12v battery? - I just read some threads with similar issues to you that were resolved by replacing the aux battery. There was also an issue with an engine temperature sensor reading very low, maybe you can read those via an OBD reader? Good luck getting to the bottom of the mystery and do keep us updated on your progress. Fingers crossed. -
The apparent gap at the front on the plenium could be part of moulding...is there a draft or any hissing noises when the engine is running? The hose looks like it should fit to the left of large coolant hose - check the image within post#2 of this thread; https://www.clublexus.com/forums/is-2nd-gen-2006-2013/363144-engine-air-filter-diy.html Might the hose connector have broken off?

Reduces/prevents oil getting passed into your inlet and adhering to the back of your valves, which is getting more common with direct injection engines. Some vehicles still have a set of injectors at the inlet manifold e.g. GS450h so they help to keep the valves clean. Oil get into your inlet via the crank case breather, along with moisture from cold starts.

Paul, I fitted once of these for the best part of a year and it worked really well. https://www.ebay.co.uk/c/27010123600 It's almost a Mishimoto copy but much cheaper and surprisingly well made. I may put it back on at some point as it did separate a fair bit moisture (cooler days) and oil vapours. The installation was tight and I ended up running it right around to the front on the engine. You may find it easier without all the hybrid gubbins in the engine bay. Get yourself several meters of non compressible hose and a few fittings then you'll be good to go.

Leigh, your experience sounds grim but I'm impressed that you persevered and got a working car via our friendly Hybrid Battery Repair Guy. I dread the thought of going through the courts and feel for you as it must have stressful. Vehicle purchases can so easily go south which is one reason why I tend to keep mine for a few years. Keep us posted on further developments and I hope that since the car was repaired, that you've thoroughly enjoyed it. Cheers, Lee

When I've dealt with @LexusPartsDirect I've always found them most helpful, going above/beyond assisting to clarify part#s across model revisions. They also have good prices and I will definitely consider using them again. Anyone who's looking to source parts themselves should first do as much of their own due diligence before placing an order. -
You're welcome. After driving, are any of the wheels hotter than another - a rough test for a sticky caliper. Don't burn yourself tho! Low mpg is another possible tell tale. Maybe your alloys aren't OEM if they don't have 5 plastic chromed fake spokes. Leaking shocks will be tricky to see behind the wheels but try and look for any oil residue at the base of each damper. Crank the front wheels over and get down low fir the rears.

Hi Eddy, good call checking in for what to look out for on a test drive. A clean hybrid health check is good and will warranty the traction battery for another 12 months. The GS450h should be pretty much silent even with the v6 running, at least on the standard exhaust. Peek under the rear bumper and check the exhaust Y pipe where it splits to the left/right boxes, this area is prone to corrode/leak so rust/soot can be used as bargaining chips. Dealers like to report leaking dampers and failed calipers but posts on here often show that the dampers are fine (as in my case) and the calipers often just need a clean/re-lube. Once the v6 is thoroughly warmed up, turn down the heater and lift off/go light on the throttle under 40mpg - this should force electric mode. In Normal mode you can hold electric easily on the throttle but in Sport or PWR modes almost any throttle will bring the v6 back online. PWR mode will give you more regen braking vs Normal. Switching between modes can be laggy to load/engage but once set you should then feel the throttle response change. Sport will tighten the dampers a bit. Hit the Info button, then Trip Info to see average mpg, min/max consumption, etc It should be averaging over 30mpg although much depends if the car is primarily driven in or out of town. 40mpg/thereabouts should be attainable on a steady 60pmg+ run. Lower figures might be caused by a traction battery that's on it's way out or 'regular' stuff like sticking brake calipers, vacuum leak, o2 sensor, etc. Check the headlights work as they're quite expensive to repair. If you are looking at an '08 car (in your profile) then is it a facelift with the indicators in the wind mirrors? At that age TPMS sensors might be or start to fail, the reset button is under the dash. Unfortunately alloys can tend to corrode quite badly, check the plastic inserts are all in place and secure. Does the vehicle has a full service history? With Lexus or elsewhere? Good luck and let us know how you get on.

Engine heaters are available for Lexus/Toyota although not as standard in the UK, I believe they are std fit in say Canada.

My wife's key battery is low, is often in her handbag and we don't get the warning every time we start the engine. I refreshed my battery a while ago and never get the warning when its just me in the car. I really must get around to swapping out her battery before I regret it.

Thanks for the reply Ashley, my vehicle is a similar age/mileage to yours so it's interesting to read about your experiences. Ah, so your traction battery was showing early signs of degredation yet a refurb didn't completely resolve the issue(s)? I've read that certain refurb's are quick/dirty cell replacement or you can/should take more time to perform a thorough refurb and analysis of each cell. The Hymax batteries claim to be quite a bit more powerful, so lets see how your mpg improves with all the extra electric boost you now seem to be getting. Cheers, Lee -

Hi Ashley, good to hear that you see any improvement to the hybrid power. I'm interested to hear about the improvement as my car is wasn't new when I acquired it and a dealer CT loaner was more modern with different characteristics. Was your hybrid battery suffering before you took the plunge? Any codes or issues before hand? What made you change the traction battery? As you say, monitor mpg over a few tanks and report back with any changes. When we hop over to Derbyshire for the day, I often see a full battery after rolling down those steep hills. It's pretty flat over here. Reckon I'll go check out Richards website again... -

Hybrid AC's are driven by an electric motor so that the AC still works when the combustion engine is off. -
