  1. Andrew hi. What on earth is your other car that you’re prepared to relegate your wondrous Ls400 to the purgatory of gremlins …….. when every alternate day use of the Ls400 might keep her in permanent reliable fine fettle ! Malc
  2. I would get the battery changed under the warranty if at all possible and THEN everything might just settle down and work fully for you ... maybe pay the difference for a replacement 5yr warranty Yuasa My two Ls400s I use every other day to make sure everythings " mobile " and happy ....... I have no preference for either, they have foibles but work very well ..... they're both amazing daily drivers I wouldn't hesitate to do a 5000 mile trip in either after a quick top-up service Malc
  3. Hi, me again …….. similar happened to me personally a few years back selling a classic car ….. and sight unseen …,,, I took a £500 deposit to have the car serviced and MOT ( unnecessary due to age ) and after a month the buyer couldn’t complete the deal ……, his wife had found out and blew a fuse 😰. ……, sale fell thru’ …… buyer told me to keep the money and apologised for the inconvenience …,. I still happily have the car, my 1932 Triumph 👍 It could maybe be an honest deal 🤔 Malc
  4. Shaun, suggest you might ask Steve2006 for possible guidance ! He’s maybe our Celsior go-to guru Malc
  5. I doubt £500 is enough ! suggest £1500 non refundable and a timeline for the buyer to conclude the deal including all his import and transporting issues, insurance and paperwork …… and taking the car off your hands permanently if he fails then it’s all back to you, the £1500 too, less Lexus Birmingham costs paid of course Any good ? Malc
  6. You just beat me to it 🤩 Malc
  7. Simply suggest you replace the battery with a new Yuasa 5yr warranty one and watch all your electric gremlins runaway for the next 6/7 years ……. Assuming your 3 years young one existing isn’t to be replaced under warranty somehow Good luck Malc whatever, don’t get a Varta battery. My Honda Legend Varta replaced by the RAC a few years ago failed this past winter and replaced free by the RAC when called out to attend the breakdown ….. the dead battery under warranty was supplied and fitted new by the RAC Malc
  8. Good idea to keep her running ok if you can ……. have you noticed the prices of our Ls400s on classic car sales sites these past days ? we’re sitting on electrical gremlins worth a small fortune maybe 👍 Malc
  9. On my 95 Ls400 ( over Covid time ) I had a mountain of unfathomable irritant electrical issues for a few weeks ……. they all seemingly simply resolved themselves …….. I didn’t change the Yuasa battery ….. which I still have BUT I do now use both cars every other day if I can …… they don’t sit idle and vegetate pleased to say ……. If it’s not your battery …… get your garage to test it out ……. then it’s down to “ old age “ and general electricals deterioration maybe And I’m of no use to you I’m afraid 🤔 We’re running quite ancient cars and lots of stuff is in uncharted territory sadly ! Other marques have long gone to the scrapper Malc
  10. Did the existing battery come with a warranty maybe ? I bought my last ( August just past ) new Yuasa battery 5 yr warranty from GSF motor factors at £166 ...... the previous Yuasa one it replaced on my 91 Ls400 had been there about 8 years Maybe get them or someone to test the old battery ......... new one is Yuasa 335/5000 100Ah 830cca best to order on-line to collect in store, it's less expensive than buying over that same counter for some weird reason 🙃 But only if you're going to buy a new one of course ........... Good luck Malc
  11. I often get Chris Knott to quote …… not always competitive but at least they are nice people on the phone and try ! They do all types of insurance and been around a very long time …….. maybe 40 years and Old School with personal service Malc
  12. If indeed it was just panels and hadn’t crapped out all the non-existent chassis stuff, steering and masses of all else ….. these “ write-offs” are rarely simplistic and straightforward sadly ……. But maybe worth buying it back from the insurers for the insce Excess that they’ll impose ……. and the owner gets the w/o and a few thousand ££££ maybe 🤔 Get one’s own Loss adjuster to advise perhaps 🤔 Never going to be straightforward ! Lucky it’s no one on here eh 😄 ……, or is it ? Malc
  13. Why can’t one have two ? it’s fun to have more than one car …… if it’s affordable etc 🤔 I simply use my two Ls400s every other day as my main cars ……. No favouritism here 😄 Malc
  14. Sadly it’s everywhere the same 🥵 Malc
  15. Inconvenience in just not being able to get in the car, start and GO ……. like an ordinary simple tech old fashioned petrol car …… this is bonkers paying a small fortune for a dreadful way of motoring ……. EVs will be obsolete before too long carrying on like this ……. who on earth could wish for one ☝️ Malc Bob, sorry to go on like this ……. It infuriates me that you’ve been conned into this mode of transport …….. my heartfelt sympathies M
  16. I doubt there’ll ever be any intention to cancel the NHS it’s enshrined in the UKs DNA 👍 Malc
  17. I’m thinking the NHS employees cover a huge range of skills, not just Drs Nurses and other health giving professionals …… the payroll is summat like 1.25 million persons overall I understand …… it’s just an impossible business to manage …… not one I’d ever wish to get involved with for sure 🤔 Malc
  18. Wot a bluddy nonsense all this with more modern cars …….. why put oneself thru’ purgatory and such inconvenience when a more conventional car would suit much more sensibly ……, brill old fashioned Ls400 technology surpasses all this ! Malc
  19. I remember that style of cover from maybe 60 years ago 🤔 Malc
  20. ….. and some prohibitive quoted car insce premiums …… or none offered at all 😰 Some of the car manufacturers like JLR have totally cocked up …… is Lexus similar with some models parts availability perhaps ? Malc
  21. JLR have recently moved all their UK spare parts to a centralised depot AND often unable to track down parts for repairers . this, from my Insurance coy working neice, resulted in many many repair claims taking months to fix coz they only use genuine new JLR parts .. resulting in excessive car hire costs and a tentative wish by the insurers to write-off the damaged cars ........ coz of the car hire costs too especially ........... Therefore a reluctance to now insure JLR cars ............. my nephew insures with them and had a deer crunch his front underside 2 months back and whilst an insurance repair they have now allowed the indy repairer to source 2ndhand ebay parts to finish the job ............. he gets the car back next week . he hasn't claimed for any interim car hire as he has use of another car ok, his daughter's at Uni car so she doesn't have that ! So it's often this scenario that causes a hiccup with insurers Malc
