    it's not good that there's no servicing schedule for calipers with Lexus, nor maybe other marques too ............... at every annual service i ask for the calipers to be checked and overhauled as necessary ............. and I've NEVER had to replace a whole caliper ( yet touch wood ) in some 250k miles driving in my Lexii and other cars too ..... over very many years of course Just get them looked at and attended to at each annual service whatever Malc

    I’m not a great fan of Halfords tbh a specific dedicated local tyre fitting place might be more aware and professional …… but go get Halfords initial offer of rechecking them all as suggested …… as a starter ……. just don’t jump at their initial offer to sell you some tyre service or other ……. but get them pumped up to the correct pressures if they’re “ out” …… for safety’s sake at least Malc

    Tyre pressures have a habit of changing from time to time …… sealant leaks, valve leaks , a zap on a wheel whatever …… just keep an eye on them and top up as necessary ….. hopefully nowt to be alarmed over 🤔 Malc

    I've now resorted to offering them the same sort of sign language they offer me as a motorist …….. but they have to show the first signs of aggression before I likewise respond ……. I’m getting intolerant and don’t believe that will improve with my age and frustration …….. beware aggressive intolerant and bad road sense cyclists, your time to feel my wrath is fast approaching 😨 Malc

    And those early engines having an after-life I’m driving mine in the knowledge that the cambelt issue, if it ever snaps, won’t cause a catastrophe …being the non- interference one …. I’m not seeing from the limited records I have that it’s ever been changed ……. my 1991 Mk1 car that is 😄 Malc

    Thank you Tim for your clear analysis ……. I think / know insurers were keen to write-off Ls400s for silly issues and that may be why there’s so few left too My Mk3 had a gently squashed door and it was a mighty struggle to get them to Cat N my 95 car rather than send her to the scrapper …….. she’s on 250k miles now and blissfully sweet to drive still I am really shocked there’s so few Mk1 cars left ……. just 40 …… I’m 2.5% of that population and mine drives so admirably too 👍 Malc

    Maybe we’re “ overthinking” all this 🤔 A simple cost effective ( zero cost ) might be to just drive her more robustly for a000 or 2 miles …… that Italian Tune Up ….. to limber everything all up …… she’s sure been underused since new 🤞 Malc

    And even yesterday there they were down a busy country lane with room for one car and a cyclist width …… just 2 cyclists abreast, chatting, not caring a fig for their own safety and the innocent motorist trying to use the road I hope other cyclists ride more thoughtfully for others on the road I'm reluctant to toot them just in case they wobble and cause an accident Malc

    Further to all this …….. reading today that BP alongside Aberdeen Council are pushing forward with the local Green Hydrogen manufacturing and research facilities Aberdeen the hub for Green Hydrogen in the UK it seems It’s a’coming within a very short few years 👍 Malc

    Jack, I've just remembered ....... last August when I bought my 91 Ls400 it creaked and groaned a lot ... 97k miles or so ...... it's now 100k miles and I've put her thru' her paces quite a lot and often ....... that's loosened up everything and I rarely hear anything untoward now ....... maybe you'rs just needs that Italian Tune Up ..... your 110k miles is worryingly low, these cars need a good cheering up sometimes to keep everything in fine fettle 😉 Malc

    Not planning anything at all yet …….. just thinking where to go, if at all, and when ……… complexities of international travel in my Ls400s peeee me off a little ……. I enjoy the simple life these days …….. ferry from Holyhead appeals ……… beautiful Eire offers so much …… and in English, well, with a bit of a pleasant lilt ……. All I need is a Ls400, a little cash and a card and some free time, internet and good health ……,, Let's ponder and see ……, passport too ? Malc

    I’ll ask summat simple …… sparing oily spray around the bushes generally ! That might help ……. Try it and see ! Dont think I’ve ever experienced any creaks or groans apart from once when a worn bush made itself known with a “ clunk “ driving thru the Italian alps a while back …….. at about 170k miles maybe …….long back ……. Didn’t affect my driving at all but a few months later was an MOT issue Hope you resolve the issue cost effectively good luck Malc
