  1. I'm thinking the " older " Toyotas should be those sought out to buy, to have and to hold and to take forward with maybe investing a little extra in her to just make goddam sure you've got a good reliable car going forward ........ you'll get a great V8 for not too many £000's methinks . and maybe tolerate a few niggles too , dings and dents whatever ( for Toyota read Lexus too maybe ) Malc
  2. Shafiq ..... any 20 year young car is going to have some issues, good and bad and some yet to come .. paying just a very few £000's must tell you whatever you're buying isn't going to be perrrfect whatever a salesman says .................... as above .... maybe buy one from a member on here who's had the grace and knowledge to keep tabs on all the probs that his car would have had Good luck .... there aren't that many V8 Marques that at 20 years plus are even around to buy let alone in sensible condition Malc
  3. Sainsbury's Hempstead Valley Kent E10 just now 155.9p plus nectar points worth 1p a litre ( for the Honda Legend ) Malc
  4. is he a member of the FSB Federation of Small businesses . their Legal Help Line might be useful as a starter Malc
  5. I very nearly bought a big Citroen Familiale ? in the 1970's ...... having 4 kids and there was no other car offering in the UK that would traipse us all about as a family unit ..... we always had two cars even then ...... my Wolseley 16/60 🥰 and her Hillman Imp ...... usually ended up with the 4 kids in the back of the Wolseley Malc
  6. surely there's bound to be a local Fabricator who will produce the equivalent at a sensible price ? Malc
  7. do join, we're always wanting sensible Volunteers Malc
  8. there's a few on autoafraider too. including this one A few members here have theirs for sale too .......... I'd be inclined to look at those initially for a sensible well considered buy This one seems mightily expensive ....... what's all the worry about higher mileages, well and sensibly used nice cars are better imho UCAs replacement start about 160k miles and the cambelt pulleys and waterpump should have been done at 10 years young and / or 100k miles too I'd take a closer look at others being available tbh Malc
  9. Anyway, back to rip-off petrol pricing BP Ashington garage on the way to Bognor at the weekend Orange light starts on again so I pulled into here to refuel Forecourt Ablaze with E10 at 164.9p Refill with E5 but at an eye watering 178.9p How on earth do they justify a 14p difference eh ! Nevermind, it's only money £130.24 to fill-up Malc
  10. both mine have been doing this for the last 11 years or probably more .......... the effect for me is very small and doesn't affect the viewing methinks ........ ageing gracefully eh ! Malc
  11. and I haven't seen another Ls400 on the road for a very very long time ............ have you ? Malc
  12. and it's a V8 4 ltr as roaring as a church mouse ............ I couldn't see me wanting to replace her ever until I had to, like a serious insurance write-off that scrapped her ..... there's always going to be a further Ls400 for me for sure ..... and they are always going to be at a sensible price too methinks £100k for a new car, blimey, the Boss indoors would go nuts as would the Office Guys knowing it's their noses to the grindstone that would be paying for it .............. so guys, what is the HMRC max figure these days for a Company Car ?? Malc
  13. Soon be a more realistic price 😄 Malc
  14. morgan. A few years ago in Canterbury I had a similar issue on my Ls400 ..... the professional view was that they wanted to pop along to the Lexus Toyota stores on the same estate area and replace the whole ........ @. £500 ...... they realised the stupidity of this and just kept the car overnight with copious lubrications etc and like and lo and behold ..... later the following day ...... “ all done sir ...... usual minimal cost for regular adjustment “ patience lubrications and TIME and maybe heat etc I don’t know ....... it’s the Patience that’s often lacking methinks Malc
  15. I've driven about a quarter of a million miles in my 3 x Ls400s ..... with about 120k miles in this Mk3 over the past 11 years or so,,,,,,,, it's just on 242k on the speedo ............ off to Bognor in a moment for the weekend with relatives ............ about a 200 mile roundtrip methinks It's a very comfy reliable very inexpensive to maintain and wondrous car to have and to motor in .... jeez I put my foot down on my usual trip to the swimming pool yesterday .. there's a short stretch where one can do that thankfully ........ she just flies I have driven many other marques over these years but these last 22 years have seen me prefer my Ls400s for sure Malc
  16. I'm only Upper Class when i pop upstairs to the loo ........... and 3 hrs driving I have to get my bladder in a comfy position too ... of course ...... that's challenging tbh I do however sympathise with older people that have " to go " too frequently .... guys do have the advantage of a local tree/shrub whatever location on side of da road of course Malc
  17. seems nowt as comfy as an old Ls400 on a longish trip I've done 3hrs or more at one go and just opened the door, popped my legs out and stood up, a little stretch and then off we go, well, after I've picked me walking stick off the back seat that is ✌️ seriously tho' I've not driven a more comfy car for sure and not sidelined by all these modern gizmos that might otherwise be popping in front of me eyes for attention too Long live the long lived Ls400 Malc
  18. hahahahahahaha ....... it's impossible there's anyone on this earth will now know more than you about taking these cars to bits and putting it all back together again ............ well done thus far .... keep at it Malc
  19. the option being, along with most other marques of similar age is just send her to the scrapper ... to be crushed and no more ...... I'm happy with non Lexus Toyota bits and bobs if that's the only way to keep her going Malc
  20. say it as I've found it over very many years of life's experiences at all levels of society and educational outcomes , working and nay, me as employer and as employee and continuing to date too ...... what else would one want to do to stave off tedium in retirement ... wots that ! me too in times past ...... it's lamentable that one encounters such employee and senior management people attitudes when as customers dealing with all and any / many businesses in whatever fields .......... it winds me up too and I know i just have to let it go and not to let it get " under me skin " and then drive me nuts ............... I want a quiet life these days ...... that's why i drive a Ls400 🌞 Malc
  21. she's totally NUTS ........... smaller, newer and much bigger bills and far less comfort and reliability no doubt about it You'll regret forever and a day trading down away from your Ls400 Malc
  22. it's all down to HR employing the wrong staff .... poor education / social morals etc ....... it's endemic I'm afraid a couldn't care less attitude prevails at all levels of society and employment .... it starts with poor parenting and slack schooling sadly .......... this will never be overcome tho' methinks however hard some may try ! Just grin and bear it eh ! Malc
  23. meant to say . saw a parked up nice looking gold one in Brixham the other day W80TRS but sadly it had back door window double glazing degradation ...... s'pose the only answer to that is a new window or a potentially dodgy one from a breaker Malc
  24. and especially so while you're awaiting the breakdown truck to arrive I understand ! Malc
