  1. That's exactly why prudence reigned when we decided to check it all out and only did the part change in simply draining what was simple to do and a simple top-up refill and fingers xd it's still all ok ! Malc
  2. when I had my 2006 Honda Legend screen replaced ............ last year under warranty of course with £75 excess ? . it was there in a flash BUT maybe it was the one and only left in the UK and they were pleeeeeeassed to exit it from their stock holding maybe ..... as you say, Honda Legends are as rare as whatever . so few ever sold in the UK and brilliant cars too ........ otherwise I wouldn't have one methinks Malc
  3. and Lexus can't even get their act together to produce my necessary Ls700 Hydrogen ...... . wots the world coming to eh ! Malc
  4. Paul hi I've replaced nothing at all in this line of enquiry AND for some inexplicable reason and after 27 years and 243k miles, touch wood, she's behaving better now than in times past It's good to know you're going to be the source of bits and bobs if and when I have the need and you're still holding these sacred parts safely ( for me maybe ..... hahahahahahahaha ) I shall pop up to see you Paul as you know I have a cousin in Kirkham that I need to see before we all get a tad older ........... heaven knows when though eh ! It's a jolly long way from Queenborough in Kent Best wishes Malc
  5. Stan no never had such issues with any of my 3 x Ls400s over the years Sounds impossible to be on an Ls400 tbh ....... surely must be summat not so dreadful as what your garage is testing for so where are you in Kent ? I'm Sheppey and if you're close maybe i could have a listen for you too Malc
  6. and the Quooker concept . seems to boil water too coming outta the tap BUT cost to install I'm told about £2k . yep you heard it £2k ..... and you have to be very very very careful using the boiling water facility . it's easy to splash and burn you know .... so take great care if you have one installed I still use my electric kettle for tea etc .... capital cost about £15 2 years back Malc
  7. c'mon Stan , you know by now from all the posts on this Forum that the Ls400 is more or less invincible and with a little astute maintenance could last forever Malc
  8. and subject to your religious reasons ........... it would be an insurance claim with a £75 ?? excess maybe Malc
  9. probably only the once in the lifetime of the car ... after another 20 years, 40 in total, there might just be a handful left which will be cossetted in aspic somewhere and rarely used Malc
  10. Ask away ........... you might be lucky past thoughts here were for a business called Tamar Electronics in Devon PL21 0BE 01752 894519 they have a website so check that out too No idea of their credibility or usefulness ...... just a name cropped up here in times past .. I've never used them Good luck Malc
  11. sadly it's the claims experience that affects us all the most Pricing is always a comparative issue but when it comes to helping you through the trauma of a claim, well, there's a lot of crappy insurers and their brokers and claims handlers out there AND there's some good one's too ........ to which I place Saga amongst the Top echelon ( personal experiences sadly ) and sadly the Fluxii guys and their insurers and handlers way way way down at the bottom of the heap of the very few I've experienced a claim through This might help one decide eh ! Malc
  12. with old socks over your shoes if it's icy eh ! 🙃 Malc
  13. Maybe put up a list of those places you have already tried . might jog someone's memory here to help you further There aren't very many of us elderly Ls400 car owners about to quiz Thankfully my ECU is still ok . i just suffer from the age old " cuts out " syndrome that was ECU driven from new and for which there was a recall in the USA but not here Malc
  14. Tyres not being effective treadwise at low low temps ...... this hadn't really hit my memory bank until last night driving back from Newmarket to Kent with some outside temps at MINUS 6 c and the loonies driving like they were on a race track, weaving in and out of slower and sensibly moving traffic being aware of the likely pitfalls of irreverent driving on the M11 and M25 in likely " hazardous " conditions Thankfully almost 100% of the drivers were being sensible and there were zero plie-ups BUT there were some breakdowns littering the roads ...... my usual 2hr journey I did n 2.5 hrs and all ok too ......... brilliant comfortable and thankfully safe Ls400 limo style and knowing that ice and snow would have sent me to eternity as I just know this beautiful car is just totally PATHETIC in such challenging conditions NOW for my morning swim . no NOT breaking the ice but the ( hopefully ) well heated local indoor pool 😆 Malc
  15. Just looking at my own Gearbox oil records and it was simply part drained and topped up at 193k miles in 2017 ..... there was no need to at the time if i remember and we were in two minds whether too or not so just went for the simple part drain and refill / top-up .No affects before nor since . everything sems simple, ok and quite satisfactory ...... fingers xd all still is eh ! Malc
  16. i sympathise with your Xmas tree light-ups here . it's all so frustrating BUT at least you now have the cure and hopes all is well for the future I've had similar for a couple of years on my 56 plate Honda Legend 146k miles now and the thoughts are it's a sensor somewhere down in the gearbox .... the car drives well and is safe and happy to drive . I'm living with the " lights-up " effect as the MOT Tester guy just acknowledges it's an old car, drives well and no safety issues AND it might cost me two arms and legs to " fix " . just to stop the lights-up effect These later cars with all this technology are just such a waste of time . my old and revered Ls400 on 243k miles just plods on, and on, and on and never ( well hardly ever ) a murmur out of place ...... after nearly 12 years with me and 120k miles too I had thought to buy a Ls460 or a Ls600 but not really seeing any perceptible advantage over my existing steeds .......... the Honda Legend being a " new " car . had her 6 years now .. is enough for me with all those impossible Xmas Tree lights all the time The comfort and reliability level of both cars is just so good and keeps me happy ........ and the bank manager too I'm thinking to get the new hydrogen Ls700 when they invent it and bring her to the masses Malc
  17. your geography is terrible ........... Nelson Mandela House is actually in Peckham, probably on the site of somewhere i used to live as a young lad 😇 Well, isn't that where Delboy told us it is ? Malc
  18. The rarity need to fit replacement bulbs would have me running to the hills, or at least maybe, just maybe letting the Lexus Main Dealer deal with the bulb issues and me being prepared to maybe pay an extra £200 maybe to just know it's all done tickety boo But there we are, if I had the wherewithall to buy a Ls460 I'd be thinking that at some stages in it's maintenance schedules I'd be having to rely on the Main Dealer for it's expertise The Main Dealer will inevitably have some good use to owners ...... Malc
  19. I think the inevitable " tie-up " between BP manufacturing hydrogen ( for it's UK wide fuel station estate ) for engines, in the north of England and Toyota with it's global scale and it's new truck engine hydrogen plans in the UK, will bring the Hydrogen concept into reality a lot faster than one could have ever imagined ...... notwithstanding the niceties of hydrogen specifics at this stage The debacle at Blyth with the proposed EV battery plant needing £3.8bn to come into production has shown that whatever Govt might be in power in the UK it's now going to be the realities of unlimited financial prowess of the likes of BP and Toyota that will drive new age motoring .... at least in the UK and near Europe My thoughts anyway Malc
  20. at that stage I'm thinking it's all toooooo late ... you have a problem ....... If Peter Sallis was alive and well we know there'd be an answer from Wallace .... or Grommit and he'd be just around the corner from you tooooo Malc
  21. I seem to invariably park on the flat and very rarely put the hand/foot brake on ....... just using P If I'm parked on a slope / gradient I will usually put the hand/foot brake on and into P too Stopped at traffic lights or a Q of traffic it's either in N or occasionally in P Whenever I collect the car from the service garage or the like I do find the hand/foot brake engaged too Touch wood I've NEVER had an MOT Fail nor Advisory for the hand/foot brake pads ......... 243 k miles now with 120k of those mine and over 11.5 years Nor in all my Ls400 driving years have I had the same issues arising at MOT times .......... maybe 23 years now and 250k miles or so I'm thinking I'm maybe doing it " just right " ... or just been lucky ! Malc
  22. and valuable organic after-spread ........... horse poo manure for the roses maybe ! Malc
  23. well done ...... a significant achievement and all credit to these marvellous early Lexii ..... and astute maintenance of course ........... long may they last ............. mine cost me £1400 11.5 years and 120k miles ago ....... just turned 243k miles yesterday 🤩 Malc
