  1. you know it's a very big job and a competent mechanic should be ok to use ... and 6/8 hrs of dedicated professional labour should sort it ... say £200 for the total kit max and £250 labour ..... maybe Good luck Malc
  2. David, wow then, looks a tad expensive BUT you do have an amazing car and probably well worth investing in her if you're holding her long term Malc
  3. There’s not many on this Forum likely to be wanting to buy a brand new car …… just having expectation of summat a little different when buying their “ new to them “ Lexus ….. rather than a Toyota and what the pricing differential might be in years to come is anybody’s guess I’ll be plumping for my Lexus Ls700 Hydrogen steed when that specific fuel is readily and widely available in the UK …… who knows when and indeed if it’s affordable I know there’s a new big Toyota Hydrogen saloon in Japan so it’s simply a question of importing one and re-badging her as Lexus Ls700 …… simple eh ! 😳🥵👍 Malc
  4. I've given up worrying about the fuel price tbh . 2 cars to fill and i always do when she reaches the orange light ............. she indoors only ever puts max £20 in the Honda Legend and then leaves it for me to fill-up whenever i take it out Cest le vie ! ...... it's only money and you can't take it with you ( so they say ) BUT I sure do try to do all my shopping in either Aldi or Lidl coz they're the only one's never ever ripping us off with fuel prices ......... and may they long never sell the stuff eh ! Malc
  5. as I said prior, the photos are taken in all sorts of sun and shade, maybe on purpose, maybe not BUT I'd also be concerned to look at delamination too We are blessed with our Ls400s methinks ! Malc
  6. no surprises there then ................. whatever we see hear or know, I do know that over the weekend I passed a Sainsburys down on the A24 in Sussex where the E10 was emblazoned at 135.9p / ltr My Sheerness Kent local Tesco's at 143.9p and a not quite so local ( Gillingham ) one at 140.9p ........ why do they continue to just brazenly rip us off ........... sorry rhetorical useless Question .. answer is coz they can and will forever continue to do so ..... they're no one's " friend " eh ! Rant Over 🥶 Malc
  7. Thinking more about this .............. as the MOT might just say the " dust covers " are kaput ...... and understanding the apparent flexibility of the modern day equivalent of the general dust cover ...... might it be as simple as modifying a new general dust cover to fit over the apparent kaput one's rather than spending out £'000s to replace perfectly good main units underneath the dust covers ! Just a thought Malc
  8. personally i would wait until you get an MOT Advisory before spending out on all this very expensive stuff ..... how was the last MOT ? Malc
  9. Oh right yes, I hadn't thought that thru fully# #Just as well i love my Ls400 then Malc
  10. a rubberised protective cover for the unit . used to be expensive as bespoke for the car but now they produce a universal adjustable type unit covering .. mine on my Ls400 cost £40 " all-up " a few months back Malc
  11. David .. I think Steve2006 on here will advise you on likely part nos. ......... I'm amazed the originals are still on the car ....... Likely lifespan about half that in reality .......... are you sure they weren't changed at about 200k miles ? The cheapest and BluePrint possibly just won't last too long ....... OEM might be available from Amayama ....... mine all came in Toyota stamped plastic bags all those years back for my Ls400 And the BluePrint one I bought initially only lasted about 45k miles ! . a lifetime of course for many it might be that stockists might be wanting to shift old redundant stock at silly prices these days of course ........... BUT Amayama and Rockauto could be your best bet Good luck Malc
  12. is it 4 wheels or maybe 5 ? Malc
  13. .. and the bargain basement price for this one is ??? Malc
  14. Lexus Main dealer . Toyota Main Dealer OR sensibly Amayama and Rockauto You're going to be spending a fortune even at discounted prices methinks Malc
  15. I would say a cracking time of the day to take the piccys ... who knows what's hiding in the shadows ! She reads ok apart from the air stuff but only a close inspection will show up any window delamination etc .. the dust covers are cheap and the tyres, well, whatever you wanted to spend eh ! AND it's far from being a bargain at that price ........... or am i nuts too ? Malc
  16. I'm not sure BUT I don't think there's any mention of even inspecting the calipers on any service schedule . that's why they get into dreadful condition without you realising they can .. AND replacing them can be awfully expensive I ALWAYS get my servicing guy to check over and sort out any caliper issues at each service and MOT . it's a relatively simple and low time consuming thing to do tbh ........ I'm on the original calipers still at 246k miles 😇 Malc
  17. I had a month driving all over and around Italy top to bottom and around and back again and tried to avoid motorways wherever possible They had the worst condition motorways I’d ever experienced ….. dreadful useless road condition ….. Did 4k miles over the month …… just chased thru France tbh ….. my target was a month traversing Italy ….. 2018 it might have been 🤔 Quite a magical wonderful experience ….. my Ls400 is a wonderful steed 👌 The prior ??? year I had a month 4k miles travelling the length and breadth Top to Toe of Spain and Portugal Beautiful Salamanca ….. imagined Wellington chasing Bonaparte all over the vista 😄 Must try to get back into that holidaying mode ….. avoiding the dreadful heat of course Malc
  18. I don’t understand ……. Why didn’t you have the car serviced with particular attention to making sure the callipers were ok ? OR Get them checked over now for peace of mind maybe Malc
  19. I was in an Official Parking Space I think and it was just a 2 lane simple roadway ….. next the Port Houses ….. simpler to pop forward on the other side of the road, into the non existent on-coming traffic and reverse into the space ….. BUT I had to drive forward, do that 3 point turn just along the road, then drive forward and then reverse back into the free space Wot a pullava But zero parking ticket ….. aaahhh happy memories of wonderful Portugal Malc
  20. Italian Dolomites are truly SPEKTAKULAR …… care Portugal Oporto driving and parking tho ….. I was warned by a Traffic Warden to roadside park NOT facing the flow …… or I would get a Ticket 😳 Cest Le vie Malc
  21. ........ and the Mk3 Ls400 is immensely better to own than the Mk4 . of course 🤩 . the steering rake adjustment just cost a 20p steel washer to fix and a tad of mechanic's labour ........ I'm understanding to properly fix the degraded steering rake on later ( Mk4 ) Ls400s and Ls430s and onwards might cost £'000s ........ 🤑 AND I do understand there might be electric/onics issues too . it's old age related sadly ......... any cars, whatever the Marque, if they survive 25+ years are bound to have some issues that you would never experience with other marques simply coz' they've already been SCRAPPED Malc
  22. now then why not try Iceland ??? but a little similar to the Scottish glens etc . and appreciably colder usually for sure .......... no idea about the EV charging tho. Malc
  23. simply buy the very inexpensive stick-on kit and follow the instructions ........ the headlights don't automatically swivel or whatever do they ? Malc
  24. and indeed MOST other cars of our aged Ls400s etc are reposing as bits and bobs at the crushers Malc
