  1. it's the calipers that's not on any " official " servicing schedule and I always ask specifically my indy to check the calipers at each annual service with 28 years of good tlc I believe my calipers are original ...... well I've not found a bill for other than general overhaul during the servicing in my ownership and there's nowt with the prior Lexus Main Dealer schedules from way back indicating renewal Malc
  2. Gentlemen I'm insured with Saga for my cars and phoned them to insure a new to me 32 year old Ls400 .... to continue to be used as a daily driver They tell me they do NOT now insure cars over age 30 . and my existing Ls400 insured with them will be not insurable by Saga when it reaches age 30 . in a couple of years then ! I've insured the new 32 year old lady with Sterling Insce owned by Markerstudy ..... probably a reputable company and at a hopefully keen price .... wonder what their claims experience might be like tho' Malc
  3. That’s amazing Well done. Self therapy and good to go for maybe 30/40k miles do you think ? and you did all that kerbside ? Malc
  4. Nigel . i would get someone to adjust your post above and remove the 80 figure Maybe the " truth police " will get ya otherwise at some time . self confessed criminal and all that .............. No idea how you do that tho AND I might be overly cautious of course BUT ................. Malc
  5. I was surprised reading my post that even Switzerland is adopting the need for the Sticker ......... so a round France Swiss and Italy funtime needs maybe a sticker for EACH COUNTRY I'm reading You'd have thought there would be one single Euro Sticker maybe ! The fines seem high and also I won't be able to get a Sticker for my aged Ls400 as it's not good on allowed emissions sadly ..... I'm assuming ! And my only speeding fine EVER was in France .... I wondered why everyone else was going at a snails pace ............. Cest le vie ( that's French too 😅) Malc
  6. Clean Air Stickers update today .. if anyone is further interested ............. https://news.sky.com/story/driving-through-france-this-summer-this-is-what-youll-need-to-avoid-a-fine-12935978 Good luck travelling around Europe this coming season everyone Malc
  7. oh my ! the other half asked if the sat nav was uptodate ..... she's quite dumbfounded I'm buying an even OLDER Ls400 to my existing zero satnav'd limo 😇 there's other threads on sat navs so i won't bore you on here BUT we use our mobile phones for sat nav stuff . that's ALWAYS uptodate thankfully Malc
  8. she must be so dear to your heart to be doing all this amazingly expensive tlc . well done ............... Malc
  9. None here from all the posts I’ve been reading on this forum sadly …… Might the RAC / AA experts on ULEZ advise you perhaps ? do let us know if there’s any light at the end of that tunnel Good luck Malc
  10. an unusual choice for me for sure BUT it will take me back some 20/25+ years to my first one J54DAP that I had for some 60k+ miles i think and much joy driving across some of Europe then too ...... In that time there's been much very useful comments and experiences with the Mk1 as advised on here ...... I've learnt a lot over the years and can maybe now appreciate rather more that which I had all that time ago .. hopefully ! e.g non-interference engine and no need to change the cambelt quite so often, the originals had a likely life of 150k miles ..... just odd snippits like that I'm earnestly trying to recall the pitfalls though . I'm sure there'll be a few that I've put to the back of my mind......... might help stave off dementia having some aged thought processes to recount .. let's see I was trying to simply find another Mk3 as I'm thinking the ULEZ expansion end of this month might flush a few older Ls400s out of hiding where the owners won't want to be paying the £12.50 a day charge ...... even if it's " holed up " I'm reading..... . whatever, I live in deepest darkest Kent where the pirates used to live and where Himmler Khan hasn't yet reached his money grabbing tentacles . I do know of another Mk3 with just 60k miles that belongs to the London area living brother of a buddy BUT he's never likely to sell and keeps it immaculate and it's his only car and the added ULEZ charge is just a drop in the ocean to him I understand ..... he's quite prepared to pay for his comfort and luxury and reliability that goes with his immaculate Mk3 ........ a wise man eh ! Mine's got lots of dings and dents and scrapes from some 246k miles of other people's careless driving around and into me ...... I'll be keeping her of course 🤩 Our 2006 Honda Legend is ULEZ proofed and just passed it's fresh MOT so all's well to visit friends and relations in the newly ULEZ'd outer London Boroughs ...... for now anyway I'll keep anyone interested fully posted on all this " new " car to me Malc
  11. chosen it seems ...... I'll keep you all posted on pick-up arrangements etc ........... 🤩 Malcolm c . I've found our first posts about this from 2015 on here https://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/topic/2985-fuel-consumption-question-for-ls400/ Malc
  12. Absolutely right I have no idea about the boot space nor in most cars of course But heaven forfend should one have a tyre blowout on a day or night there’s no place open to buy a new tyre ! ….. not even for the RAC Which happened to my daughter in their Arbath Just a little word of seemingly useless observational thought from me …… Cest le vie Malc
  13. Whatever go buy a space saver for emergency use runflats are useless if you bust your tyre in a pothole on a Bank Holiday Sunday and zero outlets to buy a new tyre ….. at least the AA /RAC etc can change your wheel ….. they even have the jack onboard Otherwise the pick-up truck eventually arrives and all that gross inconvenient pullava …. go get yourself a space saver whatever …… tiny money well spent 🤫 Malc
  14. those 2 who glued themselves to the upper parts of the Dartford Bridge that day eventually got 3 years inside . ... should have been 30 ! I was caught up in that chaos along with many 000s of others too AND if I had seen them I'd have jeered NOT cheered Malc
  15. I suppose an advantage could be that they are very rarely seen 😅 Malc
  16. As I often say …… our Lexus’ are phenomenal ….. with a little tlc and £££ our cars will likely keep on and on and on and pay for themselves many times over …… when others are chopping and changing and spending £500 a month for a very average car, for the rest of time …….. and average cars have long way back gone to the crusher and oblivion …… Keeping our delightful steeds is incredibly “green” for the planet …… and our pockets …… AND our personal comfort and driving security …… We’re all £££quids in pursuing a degree of relative inexpensive personal motoring excellence …… 😇 Malc
  17. hahahahaha ....... spent nigh on £200 filling up both cars this week . the Lexus Ls400 with E5 and the Honda Legend with E10 . it's only money £££££ 🤣 Malc
  18. Hi, I've sent you a message about her ! Malc
  19. yep, buy one without the air stuff, they are around but rare coz they were the cheapy version ...🤣 . oh, and the steering rake that's quite fine ... mine cost a 20p steel washer to fix after 245k miles ..... the Ls430 might cost a tad more, well, up to a couple of £££ grand I've been reading on here over the years 😥 Parallel parking in my Mk3 is a doddle tbh .. guess that depends on the driver maybe ? 😇 Malc
  20. Hi malc C . I used to have a Mk1 then a Mk2 and now a Mk3 . for decades . Can you send me the regn no. for me to check out the MOT status please I just might be interested in acquiring her Thank you Malc
  21. there seems to be a january 2014 onwards posting about this on this forum Malc
  22. and the work you're having done will last 100k miles PLUS too Malc
