  1. I think what we're all saying is that the opportunity to travel the length and breadth of much of Scotland is a bit of a travesty to " rush " ............... I know I never could and have always had a sort of a Plan to start the day BUT nigh on always got sidetracked to visit some place I'll be coming upon and divert there and tarry a while ......... rarely pre-book accommodation in times past, just landing where the late afternoon took us ......... BUT I've also been reading of European tourists that can mess with that simple plan as they also, in large numbers sometimes, enjoy roaming Scotland too ........ Plan but be happy to manage it on a simple day to day basis and venture to unknowing spots is always brilliant ✌️ Malc
  2. perhaps another 25 years lifespan for a replacement might be beyond the Will of many here to worry too much about 😅 Malc
  3. and if it is the alternator then I went for a recon one from a on-line good supplier .. a third of the price of one from Lexus ( new ) / Toyota Malc
  4. you're probably very brave taking on this herculean task Malc
  5. Wow a connoisseur Well scribed …… and was the cost £££ of great value to you ? Malc
  6. and if they're similar to my old Ls400 then they can be simply changed in appropriate dimension COPPER TUBE too when they need replacing ! I know that the Lexus specified part was a couple of hundred ££££ BUT copper tube was fine with mine ... and pennies Malc
  7. UPDATE if anyone's interested .................. service and inspections carried out today .......... £190 ........... change air and oil and filter and check all levels etc and underside, brakes and calipers and structure .............. and WOW what a difference ... she's even quicker than before and still brakes supremely well ........ WOT a car eh ! BUT he said it really must be used to keep her in fine fettle ........... I'm on 5k miles insurance . And also on my Mk3 ...... and 7k on the Honda Legend . heaven knows how we'll drive 17k miles a year eh ! Anyway MOT is early November and summer touring awaits ......... thank you Malcolm C for selling me this beaut 👍 Malc
  8. I've driven up to and around Scotland a few times but only ever for a holiday . a few weeks . the thought to drive 200/250 miles a day will be very stressful, strenuous and totally unenjoyable . to me anyway It's a beautiful place to amble around enjoying magnificent scenery and impromptu unbooked B&Bs etc ............ if you can take a while to do the journey then you'll enjoy it much much more than just trying to eat up the miles Malc
  9. It’s simply we’re a fairly captive market and insurance Coys are simply profit making entities and can usually have us over a barrel and get away with it but it’s such a chore trawling the market for a useful renewal price Malc
  10. I’ve seriously toyed with the idea of trading into a Ls430. 460 or 600 and being a long time long term Ls owner and driver of my present Mk3 ( prior Mk1&2 too ) about 25 years …… and having too much surplus ££££ to disturb me 😂 I decided, not on a whim though, to forget these further options due in large measure to the inevitability of Air Suspension issues, dopeily expensive ball joints issues, glass delamination, steering rake £2k manifestations with impossible modern electronics whatever AND bought myself a 2nd Ls400 from a Member on here she’s a 91 Mk1 car with 97k miles ( she’s in for a service today fingers xd all is well ) my existing Mk3 is 247k miles and nowt dramatic wrong ….. lots of aged paint blemishes however, dings and dents if you had the “nerve” you might find yourself a brilliant early’ish Ls400 with ULEZ expansion discovering a few that at £4500 a year extra fees makes some owners aghast I’ve seen some emerge, my “ new” one too …. I’ve had her a week ! you might save yourself £50/100k in the process and retain that immense reliability, presence and comfort too btw we also have a ULEZ proofed car for our London visits ( 2006 Honda Legend …. rare’ish car too ) if only they made a new Ls400 with zero modern electronics eh ! I'm sure you’ll make the right choice and enjoy her immensely ……. bank balance severely depletion though maybe good luck Malc
  11. and if you've a centre console or summat like that ...... holding something metallic . keys, sweet tin whatever then that too might trigger the alarm .. going from posts on the Ls400 section Good luck finding the culprit Malc
  12. Marcus you say you’re not visiting any cities BUT if their reach is anything like Herr Khan with ULEZ you might find you’re in the captive zone very unintentionally ……. I don’t know ! Malc
  13. Do let us know your progress here Malc
  14. Then there’s the Clean Air Stickers too you need to buy before you go ,,,,,, various posts here about this need …… to avoid BIG fines you’ll have a great time I’m sure. I’ve not been since pre Covid …… the RAC used to give advice on their portal about drivers needs enjoy the trip Malc
  15. I'd have thought with your 15 year young car that any competent garage would be able to source an appropriate gaiter and do the entire job BUT not the one you've just asked, clearly Looking back at the old bills I've inherited with the " new to me " Mk1 Ls400, the CV gaiter cost £168 to fit in Nov 2018 ......... no indication of the cost of the gaiter itself .. maybe that was included ! I'd have thought a suitable generic gaiter would be fit for purpose BUT leave all that to a competent garage ........ where you get your car regularly serviced maybe ? Good luck Malc
  16. Don’t think I’m ever going to be an Ex - Lexus Owner …. Other cars a Honda Legend 😊 just bought another to add to my collection ……. a Mk1 Ls400 with 97k August 91 car from a Member on here few dings and scrapes but oh my ….. wot a great car ….. in for a service Wednesday so I’ll make sure she’s “ good to go “ till the MOT November time exactly same as my first one about 25 years ago She drives, and stops very very well even before its service …. with ease to silly speeds and in supreme comfort too ….. of course So then, I’ll always have one or ‘t other of my Lexii 😇
  17. Well done, blimey you’ve done some amazing work on her BUT ……… I still think you’re a cheapskate in just spraying the emblem gold rather than having one made from the true 9ct stuff 😇 Malc ( I jest of course, well done )
  18. at 247k miles now I'm on original springs + 1 replacement ....... half that mileage back and years ................ I've never found a bill for shock absorbers either ............ these are truly wondrous cars 😆 Malc
  19. Ted hi good afternoon . I've sent Steve2006 a message to bring this to his attention ...... I'm sure he'll get back to you asap ....... fingers xd Bet wishes Malc
  20. personally ...... I would try to avoid BluePrint .... my experience with them generally isn't that brilliant ! If you're having the work done by your trusted Indy mechanic maybe he could advise you and order whatever on your behalf to be fitted ? Malc
  21. Finding a good early one takes away all that stress and worry of trading “up” ??? to a younger beast with potentially challenging and very expensive upcoming issues ….. e.g. Air Suspension and silly things like that 😂 Malc
  22. She’s very adept at all sorts thankfully 😅 Malc
  23. I'll be doing the photoshoot when my gf returns from holidaying at Centr Parcs in Holland with her family end of next week .... she has a much better iphone than me for piccys and will understand how to upload them too here ...... beyond the wit of man, well me whatever 😥 Malc
