  1. BUT and a very BIG BUT . they've ditched those amazing original wheels for something sadly not up to my taste ...... otherwise she looks a nice car with low mileage BUT at that price I think one would want the original refurbd wheels and decent tyres My " new " one has artificial wheels too but I think I know where I'll be thinking to obtain a set of originals ( but 16" not the original 15" as on the Mk1 ) when I decide to spend another £700 on her ....... decisions decisions decisions eh ! My artificial wheels are quite ok and so are the tyres ......... Just spent £190 on a proper service on her and a new 035 5555 Yuasa super dooper battery at £ 166 and a tenner to fit ..... but wow, does she drive well, 80 miles today on a country road style trip and she didn't miss a beat 🤩 Oh and the E5 petrol fill-up at £121 too ...... hahahahahahaha, it's only petrol Remembering how to drive my Mk1 too . it's all a tad different to my Mk3 which I love to bits for sure Malc
  2. but sadly, and I'm possibly being a little arrogant myself here ... but talking to another human being often doesn't result in what one thinks to be an intelligent and understanding conversation ........... another subject on education, staff training ........ and elocution no doubt .... that might be a part of someone's thinking to simply automate the railway process . i don't know BUT what I do know is I haven't travelled on a train for many a year and can make zero useful input here sadly Just my erroneous thoughts on Lexus forum 😅 Malc
  3. Thank you Phil and George, yes I had forgotten about the degradation in the pump fuel itself and the potential long term harm to fuel lines etc with added water / ethanol etc in the fuel itself ...... 95 octane fuel has been buggered about with and it's just the new E5 that's as best as it can get for us old Ls400 laggards I'll stick to the E5 and make sure I use a tankful in each of my cars every couple of weeks eh ! I wish 😅 Thank you Malc
  4. Josh welcome to this Forum My 1995 Mk3 Ls400 I've now done 247k miles ............. my rev counter sometimes just misreads too BUT I know the engine is running fine and at about the right revs ........ I put it down to simple age old wiring that's having a bit of a tough time with these changing weather patterns here in the UK . too hot, sometimes, too cold at others ..... old wiring will always begin to have simple functioning challenges, beginning to breakdown ........ you're very brave changing stuff but if that works then you will have overcome the " natural ageing process " I'm thinking it's far far better to have your Mk3 Ls400 with " old fashioned " electrics to sort out from time to time than a more modern car with incredible electronic wizadry which WILL MALFUNCTION a lot younger than ours and will cost a small ( or maybe large ) fortune to put right No answer for you from me that's for sure ! Good luck Malc
  5. Does anyone else have a Mk1 ? I've religiously refilled my Mk3 on E5 and yesterday my " new " Mk1 ...... the manual for this car says tank capacity 85 ltrs, the orange light emerged at 75.42 ltrs to refuel ..... no problem there, usually 100 miles left in the Mk3 tank ok BUT reading the Official 1991 Ls400 Manual I'm reading it says min 95 octane fuel ( where possible ) NOW then , for this specific 1991 car with all the differences with both this car technology compared to a later Ls400 AND the manifest changes to fuel in itself .... should I be reverting to simple E10 95 octane ? Your thoughts please Thank you Malc
  6. Autoafraiders showing yet another great looking Ls400 …… this one from Streatham South London Malc
  7. And you’re ok compromising with losing the comfort you get from your RX ……. and, maybe as a side issue, the ££££ money in the bank from not changing ? Malc
  8. Methinks we're never going to see the like again ...... eyes over Autofraider these days and, as I thought, there's likely to be some blinding opportunities to buy non-ULEZ compliant Ls400s from distressed owners in the expanded ULEZ areas Now then, will she indoors let me buy a third beast ...... they're so so cheap nowadays to buy ..... if one lives outside of Herr Khans grabbing reach ......... Could be better than having money in the bank .......... Malc
  9. Ah but parts of the new ULEZ area are quite delightful. Biggin Hill Box Hill and many such areas Malc
  10. Tfl website provides a very useful link to tell you if your car complies with ULEZ and / Congestion Charge AND also if the place you're visiting is within the expanded charging area ........... And my Triumph being over 40 years old ( 1932 vintage ) is also clear of ULEZ charge too It's proving a very useful website link . remember ........... Tfl ........... Malc
  11. hahahahaha maybe the fallacy of thinking a Celsior 430 could be better than your old, a Ls400 😉 I'm sure a little tlc and your breadth of knowledge will overcome these " tiny " issues ....... after all, your car isn't yet 20 years young 🙄 Malc
  12. Higher and better quality in an older brilliant 2nd hand big big Lexus at greater £££££ savings over summat new might be the way to go The potential added fuel costs with reduced mpg is probably comparatively insignificant in the £££££ equation doing 5k miles a year Go for the better quality bigger car all the time I’d say ! Malc
  13. My 2006 Honda Legend is also a staggeringly ludicrous £695 🥶 got to make a lot of expanded ULEZ relation visits at £12.50 to pay for that so’s I’m not using a Ls400 Malc
  14. that's not quite so ....... it's only if one is driving a Registered Disability Vehicle .......... just a Blue Badge doesn't count ! Malc
  15. I’m possibly stopping here ! 😇…… on my 4th sequential Ls400 without a break 91 Mk1 about 25 years ago 94 Mk2. 2007-2011 (was BCA3 reg) written off sadly 95 Mk3 2011 to date AND also concurrently another 91 Mk1 just bought and on 97k miles wonder if I’ll ever move from a V8 😅 Malc
  16. as you've been to Loch Ness today I'd have thought you'd be taking a snap of the Monster ....... there's hoards of people out there searching this weekend I'm seeing on the news She must surely be coming out to play ! Stags are good but you've missed seeing the main chance surely ? 🤣 Wot a lovely part of the world eh ! Malc
  17. ...... I just have my cars properly serviced ( fingers xd ) , try to drive with as light a right foot as reasonable in the circumstances, drive her always in PWR mode ..... and pray that gives me the best that can be achieved on my two old bangers 🤩 Then I check out which is the best value E5 petrol station to fill up from .. not out of my way, just on the way to somewhere or back, then empty my wallet as appropriate 😅 Malc
  18. all info gratefully received please Malc
  19. I know in my Mk3 Ls400 the solution was to a) keep metallic bits and bobs out of the centre armrest console and b) to turn the alarm button to zero/ right down when you get to it underneath the centre console as mentioned with access afore There was no need for me to buy a new sensor ...... just to wind it down ! Malc
  20. This seems all very very subtle manouevering to weak to a very sensitive driver the immense power the V8 gives in sometimes oddball ( but quite normal ) driving I'm not at all sure that I would, in the moment, find myself thinking about flicking that switch whilst my mind is concentrating on some instant and maybe unexpected driving situation occurring Maybe that's why I leave mine ( in my Ls400s ) in PWR mode permanently ...... and the mpg seems better too ! Malc
  21. James hi and welcome to this Forum if you're unable to source from a breaker's yard . many are now on-line, then you might have some luck with Amayama or Rockauto I don't know about your parts numbers though ............ I always leave that technical stuff to the guys doing the repairs .. I have had much prior success with imports from Amayama with suspension stuff from time to time and even after carriage, import duty, vat and odd other fees the cost from Amayama was about 50% of the UK Lexus / Toyota Main Dealer prices Others on here will have better input than me I'm sure .......... await their thoughts with interest ! Good luck with it all . do keep us posted please Malc
  22. On my old and ancient Ls400s I always drive in PWR mode as it seems to strangely make for better mpg ...... not sure I can feel any difference to power, acceleration whatever tho' .. maybe that's just so subtle ! Malc
  23. Wonder what the comparative USA figures are ……. a big market for the early Ls400s I understand 🤔 Malc
  24. neighbour next door with the Bentley, one of his other " ordinary " cars an Audi, needs a new headlamp, the bulbs gone, that's all ..... as he's just sold the car ...... £700 to fix My God, why on earth does one really want these new fandangled beasts that cost silly fortunes to keep going Sorry, I digress YES, keep the Ls430 going for at least another 10 years Shafiq ..... we're doing our Green Bit by the planet and Greta and not scrapping our cars Malc
