  1. I think one could add to that " political goals " ........ not much hope of aligning that where public interests are concerned 😥 Malc
  2. the last glass headlights with Lexus were the Mk3 Ls400 Malc
  3. I think you're quite correct nowadays BUT cyclists can Sport Speed at will coz I'm reading they are NOT subject to road speed limits AND there are so many ridiculously thought out roadworks / improvement programmes currently in place that any speed at all, even 10 - 20 mph is often wishful thinking ........... maybe a Govt ploy towards road safety ..... keeping all the traffic in " jams " Anyway, where did this term " traffic jam " come from one wonders, the inability to freely flow in a pot of raspberry jam comes to mind 😆 Malc
  4. were the rubber bushings ever " lubricated " ? Malc
  5. I really can't see impartiality from any one body . energy coys, nor Govts nor political dimwits .......... the best we can hope for is the likes of BP who have been in the energy business forever trying to do the very best to come up with the likely least damaging solution to our transportation and overall energy needs . and themselves turning a profit and then paying Corpn Tax etc etc etc I remember talking with the BP research guys maybe some 30 years back about their never ending research and input into solar power developments ..... solar panels especially And now their development of Hydrogen Power delivery capability from their plants up north in the uk somewhere ........ . to eventually feed into their UK network of 1200+ petrol stations across the uk . ( where and when is my HP Ls700 coming from ? ) Come 2035 I've no doubt that EVs will have progressed much further than today ...... ICE cars will also have developed somewhat to remove the dreaded stuff and my 2 X Ls400s will have reached the 40 year MOT and Road Tax zero needs and then be able to freely pollute in what's now the ULEZ zones . throughout the Nation 😅 Maybe the EVs will have some quick fuel / petrol station recharging capability too coz at the moment there's a HUGE lot of people who have no physical ability to home-recharge an EV .... . like me ! Then we'll maybe have an EV Scrappage Scheme for these early models that will be soooooo inefficient Let's see what 2035 brings eh ! ...... Hopefully a lot more wisdom and sense than we are seeing today Malc
  6. V8s forever 🤩 Malc
  7. Road Tax on my 91 and 95 Ls400s are £325 and Indy servicing can be / is for me, comparatively inexpensive thankfully ……. Keeping them in good sensible roadworthy condition is I feel key to ongoing low maintenance costs overall ……. and hopefully, fingers xd these two delights will keep going for a while yet ……. It’s just that dopey E5 fuel costs that keep me poor 🥲 Malc
  8. Gray, have you a 1992 Ls400 then ? Malc
  9. or just buy a ( box of ) Swan ....... vestas ....... light the blue touch paper .... but leave it till 5th November maybe ! Malc
  10. Andy good morning ..... are you buying her today then ? Malc
  11. Inside ................ Outside ! Malc
  12. Rob thank you so much for this link, I've popped it into another Forum Post here for owners of our aged steeds .... should anyone need to buy one brand new .... these must be sooooo elusive now ........... not quite £3k thank heavens eh ! Malc
  13. a Member on another Forum post has just sent me this over for future reference ... should anyone need one NEW https://www.megazip.net/zapchasti-dlya-avtomobilej/toyota/lexus-ls-42404/ucf10-55847/ucf10l-aepgkw-926197/headlamp-17919805#/il-414850157-6491966-6491966?utm_source=LexusOwnersClubUK&utm_medium=ForumLinks Malc
  14. Really hope your choice of Sprayer fulfils your dreams Malc
  15. none ever do with the older Ls400s , the Mk1, 2 and 3 ( I've not had a Mk4 ) ..... most expensive repairs are the UCAs at maybe £500 max a corner which will last another 150/200k miles ...... engine and gearbox are just " invincible " ... it's the possibility of rust that might be the eventual killer but not if caught sensibly early enough and it's simply a 4ltr V8 that quietly purrs along irrepressibly lurking behind it's Wolf in Sheep's clothing 🤩 Malc ps I've had a Ls400 now almost every day for about 25 years as my main driver and pre covid averaged about 12/15k miles annually
  16. Then more wind farms and better focussed to get tidal power right eh ! Zero fossil fuels used in this scenario ?? Horse drawn carriages to the fore please ….. horse poo is good for the plants ? Which eat the carbon emissions ? Create a Non-Scrappage scheme to ensure existing good car stock isn’t wasted on the whim of a musk or Chinese battery builder creating the myth that EVs are doing us all some good AND an analysis of EV lifespan and scrappage costs both in ££££ and environmental costs Has anyone credible ever done any of this overarching analysis ——- for the benefit of humankind ? methinks a sensible study by a credible authority, say BP might be a way forward ? They sure know an awful lot about Energy and fossil fuels, alternative sources of energy and mitigating energy usage BP is worldly enough not to push fossil fuels onto us I’m sure Maybe the Govt could take summat like this on board …… or perhaps it has already ,,,,,, Malc
  17. the torrential rain we have had in my part of Kent would have simply overflowed the drain pipe apertures maybe even if they be clear ......... and just caused some really exceptional water ingress ..... in places that under normal rainfall ( whatever that is ) would just go away ok Malc
  18. Shock absorber failure at 13000 miles! Stan ... read this Forum post on here ........... it goes into a replacement headlamp unit ( for a blown bulb ! ) at a staggering cost of £3000 ..... and that's normal and seemingly acceptable in modern Lexus high tec cars it seems Be thankful your wonderful Mk4 Ls400 only has tiny comparative challenges 😇 Best wishes with sorting her out ok Malc
  19. on my 2 X Ls400s they are of course simply glass and I'd imagine only available from a breaker tbh . the bulbs, well the last pack from Halfords incl fitting was about £15, 3 ? years ago .. I've still one of those bulbs spare ........ they actually light up the road quite well in the dark The Ls400 Mk4 ( and later Lss' ) plastic headlamp might be available on-line from somewhere, probably a Breaker I'd have thought . and bulbs can be individually replaced .... so I'm thinking maybe a couple of hundred squid for a replacement unit ! £3000 would have bought me one whole Ls400 in fine fettle I'm thinking 🤣 ..... and with a robust brilliant V8 4 ltr engine that's as quiet as a mouse 😇 Malc In fact £3000 would have bought me 2 and a bit of my recently acquired Mk1 Ls400 👍
  20. Chris, I presume you had a Lexus V8 of some sort to compare ? Malc
  21. Anything is possible with NatWest Malc
  22. Oh for a blessed Mk1 to Mk3 with the 20p steel washer fix Good luck with sorting it all Malc too much modern technology to go awry sadly
  23. You’re probably right but storm winds and driving rain do exceptionally penetrate sealed places too Malc
  24. And the 2nd hand value of these cars is ………. Malc
  25. It’s absolutely bonkers that anyone’s prepared to buy a car with such ludicrous inbuilt probable on-going costs Wot on earth is in peoples mindsets to think any of that is sensible ? how dopey ! Wot possesses people to buy brand new cars Malc
