  1. Quality and Service costs and certainly worth paying for ……. I’m not at all certain you can’t buy the Service Quality at a fraction of the price that a Main Dealer offers …….. I’ve experienced brilliant quality service from independents over the solid 25 years I’ve owned and run my Lexii ……. Maybe I’ve been lucky and never buying a brand new Lexus nor other marque has given me security of the brilliance of Lexus coz we all know they have been outstandingly well built cars over the past years ……. not so sure that’s the case going forward reading these forums and owners issues Computer technology, well I’m in the hands of fate as my knowledge is almost zilch and my reliance upon others skills is paramount …… but those costs pale into insignificance compared to buying cars …… Lexus cars are on the whole, I agree, a cut above the rest imho and I’m so so pleased I have mine and had one for the past qtr century 👏 lucky to have discovered Lexus in its early years eh ! Malc
  2. rich kids parents might send their kids anywhere they wish ............ if they pay the going rate OR indeed they may send their kids to exemplary State schools too and find they have to move home to the catchment area ! Some State schools I understand have quite forbidding Entrance Exams to hurdle over .. where not only the kids MUST perform but also the parents no doubt have to meet certain acceptable levels of criteria ..... I can think of one at least ( or it used to be ! ( my old school ) ) Malc
  3. maybe try to factor any likely downsides into any price you negotiate to pay for the car ! Good luck Malc
  4. It’s a 14 year young car and the warranty might well not cover all you would wish …… just ask the garage and their proposed warranty provider maybe ! ……. and if they might offer some sort of leeway in any of this ……. Might be reflected in your negotiations on pricing of course ……. Good luck Malc
  5. Welcome to this forum not many Ls600 owners around and a fair few cars for sale it seems I would think about a fresh independent MOT at a “ local “ Govt Test Centre if possible ….. at the expense of the vendor and see what happens from then …….. a wonderful car capable of monster brilliant miles BUT you may need deep pockets ongoing, it’s a car ! …… it’s a super dooper v. expensive car when new Get the best warranty available even tho the garage selling it has quite some legal warranty obligations anyway Are you buying from a non-Lexus dealer ? Good luck. Keep us posted Malc
  6. might you have found a spacesaver on ebay whatever and had it posted to you from the UK ? at maybe £30 or so 2ndhand ! plus carriage of course Malc
  7. myohmy ......... some £200 a day for the residual capital loss if you sold her today, let alone the capital and possible finance cost, pain of purchasing new some 5 months back No health warning on buying new cars eh ! BUT that euphoric moment of driving off, that day in your brand new car 😃 AND now knowing insurance costs are going thru' the roof too for EVs generally I'm quite certain, intuitively, that your tale is not uncommon amongst EV purchasers ..... from nouveau rich to nouveau poor in 5 months ........ Not sure what else to say other than to offer my commiserations on your loss Malc
  8. Faizal hi and welcome if you can't find one from the usual sources . autoglass or breaker etc then there might be a possibility to have one bespoke made from Pilkingtons ( classic car glass section ) but at enormous cost or indeed I remember reading here somewhere these past few months of another glass manufacturer somewhere in the north of England maybe ? that too makes bespoke windscreens and maybe at less of an enormous cost Really boils down to what's the car worth to you to keep on the road ! Good luck Malc
  9. On education ……. as a Primary School Governor many years back I was fascinated that so many kids were bankrupt of ability following on from their parents own crap societal awareness ( in my opinion ) which dramatically followed on directly from their own parents crass societal degradation ……. Goddam awful education themselves …… the State system I’m afraid in all cases My comparison of my own State education reflected …… my State grammar education was from a school with some 400 years Foundation ( in common S’arf London ) …… and that had some crap kids with parents with societal issues too …….. Education education education ….. whatever the system, State or Private, produces some kids with crap outcomes and some with brilliant outcomes …… methinks it’s parents that have greatly influenced the outcomes ……. oh, and believe it or not, the quality of the teachers ! Nowt 2do with Climate Change tho’ More Merlot please waiter 👌 Malc
  10. I like the concept of a " Hung Parliament " ....... do we get to choose who we can hang ? do we need a vote on it ? Do we need an App for it too ? ....... I'm sure my IT guys in Delhi could provide such an App for under a £1 mn or 2 ! 😇 Not sure much of the above has any relevance to Climate Change other than if we blamed the Govt or an Opposition Party ( parties again 🤣 ) then we could go straight to the hanging aspect without further ado Malc
  11. Sultan of Brunei maybe ……. Just flies his people for any healthcare issues to a local country / expert for medical care ……… guess he had UK Private Education too 👍 Benevolent Sultanate but there, comparing him to Assad of Syria who also benefitted ……. aaaarrrrgggghhhh 🥵 Malc
  12. I'm thinking you're all just ignoring the simplicity of life and kids education in the UK being totally bereft of anything very pleasant in times past . between the 2 wars and early 1950's 60's . some of it to my personal knowledge being so so lacking in much academic knowledge ....... the teachers having to cope with parents and families really really on the breadline and so impoverished ........ many a sad sight I'm sure and quite possibly a lot worse than it might be today .......... Foodbanks and ClothesBanks .... jeez school uniform banks too these days . Wot School Uniforms in the 50's etc .. lucky to have trousers with seats in their pants .......... !!!!! Great maybe to have Private Education that's relieving some strain from the National Education System AND those Private Schools sometimes being able to " share " some of their good fortune with local Non-Private kids .......... swimming pool availability maybe ........... sharing school playing fields whatever Not looking deep enough into the total scenario would be a utter failing methinks . there's never going to be enough money in the State systems to bring what's ideal to kids today, there never was and probably never will be ... there's no money tree you know ! Malc
  13. oh my . should I now buy my 3rd Lexus ??? not sure I'd survive the onslaught from the better 'arf ! Out of season for a SC430 . winter approaches and a dealer needs to shift redundant stock into ££££ Malc
  14. looks a great car on the face of it . fresh MOT and " good to go " ......... not that stolen one referred to on another post that the OP hasn't updated with reg no. etc ... is it 🤣 Malc
  15. and if it's not already been mentioned ............. the great great advantage to errant parents to be enabled to pay to send their kids to Private School so's they're out of the goddam way and sometimes being able to leave the kids at the school during the holidays so they don't have to have them under their feet .......... I remember this from a couple of decades back when my erstwhile 2nd wife was working at an esteemed and brilliant private School ... having to cope with this sort of attitude from some challenging parents ....... nice kids, just goddam challenging parents up themselves with self-importance sadly Sort of Private Schooling taking the place of some Social Services that would otherwise be paid for and a drain on the taxpayer 😇 Malc
  16. Remembering when the Phaeton first appeared in the UK .. wot a fabulous car . VW equivalent of a Roller ... did they buy RR or was it Bentley ? Malc
  17. Yep ……. a likely simple afternoon “ stroll in the park “ job for the average home mechanic 😂 Malc
  18. maybe it needs bums on seats too to distribute the weight ratios too Malc amazing I got 3 X 2s in that sentence
  19. jeez sorry everyone, I got that totally wrong . it's @ £150 a day Malc
  20. woweeee it's only dropped £20k in 4 months .... £7 a mile ........... @£15 a day ....... but of course it's getting ancient now with the fresh 1st September 73 plates Any ( screwball maybe ) private buyers out there taken the plunge ? . s'pose if you keep the car for 30 years then it's not costing one too much to worry about ...... longer term ! 🤣 Malc
  21. The age of our dear cars can occasionally reveal electrical gremlins but thankfully they go back to bed ……… mostly Malc
  22. Joshua welcome …… it’s about an All Day job for a competent mechanic ……. there’s a lot involved BUT it should last 100,000 miles til next time The radiator is best changed at 100k miles too as preventative maintenance ……… to factor into your likely costs Theres a great deal of information on this Forum about the Ls430 Best wishes Malc
  23. and Rochester / Strood Kent is just off the M2 too Malc
  24. ......... if you're thinking to ever stay with Lexus one could always try a brilliant but elderly early Ls400 .......... V8 4ltr ...... that's been well cared for 😉 My thoughts to get myself a 1965'ish Bentley S3 were scuppered being told it would probably spend as much time on a trailer to the repair shop as I would ever use it .. and with silly £££££ bills too And being an ex car dealer I know some of the pitfalls of big Mercs, Astons, Porsche, more modern Bentleys too . etc etc etc . and it's usually mega £££££s So an older brilliant Ls400 seems to fill that space right now and she drives a dream too .. of course 😇 Malc
  25. Gary, unless Locking Wheel Nuts have come on a lot over recent times I've a feeling that any old competent professional wheel thief can probably overcome any specific wheel nut protection ! Hope I'm wrong BUT ....................... Best wishes with it all Malc
