  1. Both are good cars. I have come to my F sport from a Mercedes e250 AMG CDi Sport convertible and the Lexus is a far more comfortable car to drive (bearing in mind i'm in the car for between 2 and 4 hours every day). I love the factory reverse camera setup - I can park easily in spaces that I would find awkward with my wife's Fiat 500. Be aware thee is a customer satisfaction recall currently on all cars from 2013 to 2015 in respect of possible corrosion on rear wheelarch seams. This is being checked on service currently.. if I was doing only 5,000 miles a year I would be very tempted to try a 250 rather than hybrid and save some cash.
  2. How about putting a microfiber cloth on the seat and then heating it with a hairdryer or hot air gun while running the seat ventilation to blow the liquefied cleaner into the cloth . Hopefully it will then be absorbed into the cloth.
  3. The normal non stop start item was around £60.
  4. The F sport trim is nice, but there are quite a few cars in other trim levels with half the miles for the same sort of money (and with some manufacturers warranty left) showing on the internet at non-franchised dealers.
  5. We have looked after my grandson for 2 or 3 days a week since he was a baby. He is now 7 and the Lexus is fine. No modern car in my opinion will accommodate an isofix child seat and 2 adults comfortably in the rear. We have good quality Recaro child seats in both the Lexus and our Fiat 500 - no problem. In fact there is more room in the Lexus than my Mercedes E250 cabriolet which always used to create moaning because of legroom issues from the boy. I have a valetpro product that neutralises the effects odour of milky vomit and other nasties ( apparently does it with bacteria). It is also ideal for using in the home.
  6. Currently my 'Real World' figures per tankful are around 42-43mpg. A lot of my driving is motorway though and wth cruise control set at 71mph in eco mode. I tend to leave the car in eco mode as it is all too easy to find myself speeding if in normal or sport. The computer usually indicates a couple of mpg more. I have covered just over 6,000 miles since buying the car t the end of October and my phone app is giving an average of just under 43mpg overall which I am very happy with. I always drive with the aircon and heated seats on so could probably do better if I drove with them off.
  7. We replaced the battery last year on our Fiat 500 which has stop start and that was £128!
  8. I understand from a 'What Car' that there is a big recall on airbags supplied between 2002 and 2015 made by Takata. Below is an extract from the article. As you see Lexus is one of the makers affected; 'Last week, airbag maker Takata conceded that it had hidden evidence of a potentially lethal airbag inflator problem that has been attributed to 12 deaths and 180 injuries in the USA. It agreed to pay $1 billion (£820 million) in penalties, comprising a $25m fine, $125m compensation to people killed or injured by the airbags and $850m to car makers using them. Here’s what we know so far: What is the issue? It centres on metal inflator cartridge inside the driver and front passenger airbags of vehicles, which in some cases has ruptured during a crash spraying shards of metal into the interior. We don’t yet have details of all the UK models affected, but it is believed that 42 million are affected in the USA and the remaining 58 million are spread around the rest of the world. The vehicles were produced between 2002 and 2015. Honda has the most models affected, but the other brands involved include Audi, BMW, Chevrolet, Chrysler, Dodge, Ferrari, Ford, Infiniti, [Jaguar]http://www.whatcar.com/jaguar/, Jeep, Land Rover, Lexus, Mazda, McLaren, Mercedes-Benz, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Saab, Subaru, Tesla, Toyota and Volkswagen.'
  9. Sometimes if I press power and engage reverse a bit quickly this happens. In my case I think it is me not allowing time for the electronic magic to synchronise.
  10. Interesting. When I asked Mercedes Bristol for details of previous work to my convertible they told me that only basic information was stored on the car.
  11. Mercedes do not have a service book any longer. The car records only basic servicing. There is no record of brake replacement etc recorded anywhere. Purchasing an approved used Mercedes gives very little information. I was very pleased when I bought my Lexus to be able to read the service book.
  12. Sorry, Can't agree with this comment -I change my cars every 10 months or so due to my big mileage (36,000 pa approx.). 2 years ago had a very bad customer service issue with a brand new BMW Mini [ One of which was a collision avoidance system hell bent on slamming the brakes on in clear motorway conditions - No fault codes showing sir, therefore there cannot be a problem], Issues with the Dealership, BMW Customer Service and Allianz (their recovery contractor). This resulted in a change for 2 vehicles to Mercedes where again I had such a bad issue with their recovery service (again Allianz) that they sent me a goodwill gesture cheque for the poor service. Getting a car into a Mercedes dealership now is like asking for the holy grail if it needs a service or warranty work.. Covering 6-700 miles a week if my car tells me to book a service I cannot wait 3 weeks (waiting with vehicle) or 5 weeks (with a loan car) for a service.
  13. Dunlops are so harsh. Had them on my last mercedes. They were noisy and harsh. When I changed to pirelli it was a different car. My Lexus is on Bridgestone and they are very good.
  14. Gummi Pflege is good stuff. I used it on the rubber seals of my Mercedes convertible roof to keep them water tight and dry quiet. Aerospace 303 is also very good for stopping rubber squeaks.
  15. Have you tried autoglym leather conditioner.? I used to use hide food going back a while and a trimmer at Morgan advised me to use nothing else. That advice was for new leather he had fitted to my Morris Minor, but I used it on my Audi A4 and my Mercedes 300ce also.
  16. I'm getting this sort of figure showing now. Tankful to tankful on the last fillip was 44.75 with an average over1800 miles of 43. 17 which is 2mpg better than my Mercedes E250 Amg sport cabriolet and 1 Mpg better than my 2013 Mercedes c220 Amg Sport Saloon which were both on the same Wheel sizes as My Lexus.
  17. Well done Enjoy the trip.
  18. I just bought the latest micro Sd card from the ebay seller mentioned on this forum. The serial number ends in OL. Cost was£70 including registered postal delivery from Ireland. Works fine.
  19. I know what you mean. Avid tomtom user until I bought this. Got latest micro Sd card from seller recommended on this site. Am now getting used to the car navigation and it does have live traffic warnings. Today with all the floods it offered me frequent re routing My main reason for using it though is that it is great not having wires trailing all over the place. I am very impressed with the text reading facility and the hands free phone connection gives great reception.
  20. My car had a big service 2000 miles before I bought it in June. I will easily need it serviced again before then with my high mileage. After I did the deal I found out that the previous owner was Sir Geoff Hurst.
  21. I paid just under £21000 for my300h F sport 2 weeks ago from Cheltenham Lexus. Metallic Black June 2014.. It had 11800 miles only and apart from Mark Levenson Stereo has pretty much everything ; premium navigation, Memory black leather seats with ventilation etc. Presumably a high spec will hit you with VRT though.
  22. Remember that end of quarter is best for haggling 31st December being next one. 2 years ago I bought a car for £14250 that had been advertised at £20000 the previous week. Ran it for 9 months and 20000miles and got £650 more for it than I paid. Was a 1500mile demo that was in stock for 90 days. Dealers will take a loss in order to meet sales targets.
  23. Lovely looking car. Congratulations
  24. You always fill up tankful to tankful, put the cars to all mileage in and cost per litre. The app calculates your total average Mpg. The Mpg over the last tankful and your fuel costs per mile etc. Very useful. My Last mercedes suddenly started doing about 3 Mpg less than usual and a couple of weeks later had an air mass sensor fail. I find it great as my company pay me mileage and I am then able to buy cars that are cheap to run.
  25. Bmw z3's have a 'rocking seat' issue. That is to do with the electric seat worm gear drive. The BMW cure is a new seat base at around £1000 a side. The local garages mot dodge was to wind the seat back against the bulkhead for the test. Sadly you won't be able to do that. Is your issue possibly a similar fault.?
