On Tuesday my RX450h was picked up by the supplying dealership for it to undergo some cosmetic paintwork which wasn't done during PDI. They left me a brand new CT200h with 135 miles on the odometer registered on Monday.. I signed the paperwork in a bit of a rush as I was out working when the car was delivered. I didn't need the car on Tuesday but Tuesday evening when checking the paperwork I realised that it was possible to buy CDW to reduce the £1000 insurance excess. As I was getting up early Wednesday morning I emailed the Salesman and the Business manager requesting the extra cover at 6.30am. Murphys law then took hold. Lunchtime i was on a newly resurfaced road 70 miles from home when traffic coming the other way flicked a small chipping onto the windscreen. Bang -the screen chipped but worse it then cracked for a good 12 inches across the middle of the screen. I called the garage to be informed that they hadn't done anything about the CDW as it could only be added when I took possession of the car not after. The upshot is that the excess for glass unlike a normal policy is the full amount of £1000. It was suggested it would be better to get a screen fitted locally (the dealer is over a 100 miles from me) as it would mean I had a car for the next week and would cost less. Well My local dealer got me a screen and its booked for fitting tomorrow. The screen is £300.08p including vat , but the extra clips and fittings needed to install make the total £447.86p The fitting charge is a further £108 making a grand total of £555.86p......................... Now worried in case anything else happened to the loan car i spoke to my own insurers. They have put the car on my policy for £16.80p for a week and there is no windscreen excess and my own £250 excess will apply in the event of a claim.

Loan CT200h while RX450h in Dealership
olliesgrandad replied to olliesgrandad's topic in Lexus CT 200h Club
My Gs300h was shod with Dunlops. I switched to michelin primacy 4 tyres and what a wonderful change that was. The Michelin is a new model claimed ot be as good in the wet when worn as new and they are fabulous wet or dry. i did 6,000 miles before selling the car and it handled like it was on rails wet or dry. -
Well my 2015 Rx450h which I purchased 3 weeks ago has gone back to Lexus Derby to sort some minor paintwork issues which weren't corrected when the car was prepared. It will be with them for a week. The loan car they supplied is a 2018 CT200 luxury in Messa red which they registered only yesterday. It arrived with me today with 135 miles on the odometer. As I drive around 500 miles a week it will be interesting to see how it performs compared to my previously owned 2014 IS300h fsport, GS300h luxury 2015 and my 2015 RX450h. The first thing I noticed is how noisy the tyre's are . It is on the optional 17 inch wheels and is shod with Yokahoma tyres. A very firm ride and to my mind the 16 inch rims would probably be more comfortable. Within the first few miles i noticed that the speed limit detecting camera had missread a sign in a known 40mph limit and despite driving past several repeater speed limit signs it insisted on telling me I was exceeding a 30mph limit! It certainly has plenty of power. I have refueled it and set the car up on my phone app in order to get some real world mpg figures.

You have some great pictures. Scotland is a great place for photography. The Squirrel and the woodpecker were taken on holiday on Loch tay. The Jaguar is in the Motor Museum in coventry

Great pictures Stephen. What camera (s) do you use. Currently I use a Leica X1 for street pictures and a Fuji xe1 when I want to have interchangeable lenses.

Apologies to all. I took the unprecedented step of reading the handbook and the car can be locked from inside. So the question is I suppose 'Would the doors in an accident?.

If I could lock the does from the inside then they seemingly wouldn't unlock in an accident which surely is the modification they made following the action in the States where a car caught fire with locked doors. From what has been said the generation 4 cars have a sensor to release door locks on impact.

The reason I can't lock the doors from the inside is that the locking button won't move. Suspect this is to prevent the doors from remaining locked in an accident. On my RX I cannot lock the doors from the inside seemingly. That is the issue...

Simple really. I don't want to be robbed aka Michael Macintyre or have a grandchild kidnapped from the back seat while stationary in traffic. By the way when stopped in traffic I stay far enough back from the vehicle in front so I can drive around if required.

Tried an NX Today
olliesgrandad replied to olliesgrandad's topic in Lexus NX300h / NX200t / NX350h / NX450h+ Club
Well 2 weeks ago I made the decision and bit the bullet. Got the RX450h Advance 2015. Covered just over 1300 miles and averaged in excess of 36mpg which is the icing on the cake. The bonus is that my wife loves it so a 'win, win situation'. Car has a few minor paintwork issues which should have been sorted prior to collection, but they are picking it up next week to sort it (should have been today but yesterday the car they were bringing me got pranged). Most comfortable car i've owned. Beats even my 1990 W124 Mercedes CE which comes a close second. -
35.65 Mpg over 1,289 miles according to my phone app. Very pleased. The trouble with lpg conversions is that the engines run hot. Back in the early noughties when they were popular there were all sorts of issues. The Vauxhall factory approved conversion on the Astra would see a head gasket off at around 50000 miles. Having driven an experimental police version I can assure you that the performance was badly affected when on lpg as opposed to running on petrol.

In the 16 days I've owned my car I've averaged over 35mpg in 907 miles according to my phone app. This is measured tankful to tankful. This is my 3rd lexus since October 2016 so I'm used to driving hybrid. My 2015 gs300h averaged over 44mpg over 27000 miles. Driving a hybrid is totally different to a conventional car. Watch the Lexus YouTube video that will help.

GardX Paint and Leather Protection Controversy
olliesgrandad replied to olliesgrandad's topic in Lexus General Maintenance
Apparently the guarantee is not transferable in any event as I bought the car from a dealer (albeit the one that has supplied and serviced the car from new). The guarantee contains the details of the original purchaser so they say they can't disclose details of the treatments performed..........GDPR is being used everywhere as an excuse for poor performance it seems -
Clean your steering wheel....!!
olliesgrandad replied to Haylands's topic in Lexus General Maintenance
I regularly use 'Chemical Guys' leather cleaner on mine. Very gentle and not sticky. -
Well my 'new to me' 2015 RX450h had a GardX label affixed to the windscreen. I wondered what treatment had been applied so rang them. The new Data Protection rubbish prevented them from telling me as the guarantee paperwork is in someone else's name . Then ensued a conversation where I pointed out that because of this I was prevented from buying any maintenance product from them. After the call I had a 'lightbulb' moment. Yesterday I put my car on the 'My Lexus' phone app. Yesterday there was no service history. Today there is- well it shows that GardX was applied to the exterior and the leather when the car was new. Now the exterior I don't give a hoot about as it will be getting a coat of 'Chemical Guys' Blacklight 'polish. The leather is another matter. Do I get the GardX Leather cream to protect it (bearing in mind it was treated with it 3 years ago) or do I use Autoglym leather cream? The cream leather looks great at the moment and When I cleaned a corner with chemical guys leather cleaner no dirt came off.

Decided at a very early stage that cream over carpets weren't the best idea. After toying with the idea of putting a set of black ones in I stumbled on a set of cream rubber fitted overmats in the Lexus Ebay Shop. for some reason ebay gave me a £10 discount code so bought them for £94 including delivery to my local Argos. Very pleased. They look great and of course fit perfectly and safely .
