  1. I very rarely use the DAB radio as it is nowhere as sophisticated as that in my previous IS300h or 2015 GS300h despite having ML. Regarding fuel consumption easing back on the loud pedal will help. I have been experimenting with my car. Over the last 2 tankful by driving at 60 on the motorway my mpg has gone from 32mpg to 36mpg. This is accurate as its done tankful to tankful rather than from the car.
  2. spoke to the guy at Reinventing The Wheel, Tewkesbury who are carrying out my wheel refurbishment for Lexus next week. I asked him the best way protect the finish. His answer was that you can't and that as soon as you drive away on them they are likely to quickly have issues. He said the best thing to do would be to have them powder coated and that he could replicate any Lexus wheel finish. He suggested that perhaps a shadow chrome might look nice and that if I could call in he could sow me some colours. I spoke to the Dealer booking department today and said that I wanted this done. I know it will be cheaper for Lexus so I've got to now decide whether to have a silver finish or perhaps go for a shadow chrome
  3. Strangely enough no. Didn't enjoy his column at all.. James Ruppert was one of my favourites (and of course he is a big fan of old Lexus now).
  4. Back in the 80s CAR was very alternative in its views which certainly made me buy it.
  5. Watched the first episode with Chris Evans and haven't watched it since.
  6. Satnav saved our marriage. We are both rubbish navigators. Many moons ago we followed a route on a map in Scotland in a loan Mercedes. Unfortunately after about 10 miles it turned into an unsurfaced footpath requiring extreme reversing skills. 😂
  7. In todays Mail online Dominic Lawson writes about his Discovery experieand how heyhad now bought an R400h on the advice of a motoring correspondent friend.
  8. Welcome. Great forename 😀
  9. That's a poor accident repair. I hadta similar but worse issue on my 2014 IS300h 2 days after it came out of the bodyshop. It cracked and was bubbling all over the rear quarter of the car. Suspect this issue may spread if its the same issue. A paint depth indicator may give antidea of how much of the car has been painted.
  10. Sorry but Mercedes paint is just as bad, same with mini and alfa. Modern water based paints all seemtto chip easily.
  11. I think that Ford own the worldwide patent to heated front windscreens as no one else has them
  12. Interestingly today I drove from Gloucester to Walsall and back on the motorway a round trip of 131 miles . I decided to go gently as I wasn't in a rush. Cruising at around 58mph(cruise set to 60) The computer recorded an average of 40.7mpg. Normal driving tank to tank I get 32 mpg in winter.
  13. Cancel your AA cover as the Lexus cover is for 2 people travelling in any car. The warranty is good value as one simple issue could be megabucks. For instance Toyota are notorious for leaking around the. water pump. On my GS300h It was found to be weeping at service. The car was under warranty and the water pump was replaced. Car was 2 years old. That would have been a £300 job. Warranty direct I suspect is dearer from my previous research, not as comprehensive. With Lexus it will be much more straightforward. To me it is a no brainer
  14. Good point. I haven't tried to clean mine yet but will do so when the weather warms up. I have got Maguires APC and also Chemical Guys Fabric Cleaner. The CG fabric cleaner is great on carpets both car and house so will probably try that first as it isn't as harsh as the APC. All other suggestions welcome.
  15. I use chemical Guys leather cleaner. Gliptone is also very good
  16. Have you had an MOT since the rules changed?
  17. Sounds like it. You obviously do a reasonable mileage, which is a bit surprising. Never had any issue with my 2015 model in 37000 miles.
  18. Where in Ireland are you. My Mother was from North Tipperary.
  19. Personally I would stick with using a modern Polish system. I use chemical Guys Blackllight on my cars. My car has a hard life doing 500 miles a week and people often comment how shiny it looks. Do it perhaps twice a year and it buffs off easily. After washes I spritz it with chemical guys V70 and it leaves a nice smooth finish. I also wonder how a bodyshop deals with the ceramic coating if repairs are needed. My RX apparently had GardX applied when new and I wouldn't rate that although it is a lot different to ceramic coating.
  20. The noise will also depend on brand of tyres fitted. Japanese Dunlops are quite noisy in my opinion. Michelin (not an OE fitment) are really quiet in my experience.. You will find that some brands of tyre have specific Lexus fitment, my IS300h (yokahoma) and GS300h (Dunlop) both had tyres specifically developed for Lexus fitment.
  21. Yes we all bought diesels because Blair and his cronies told us they were better for the environment. When I was a small boy I stayed with my Uncle in Ireland. He owned the local garage. I vividly remember him saying that one puff of diesel smoke from a bus or lorry was worse than smoking a thousand cigarettes. This was around 1967. Wasn't he ever a wise man.
  22. The car should be back to pre -accident state. I am pretty sure that they can get it right if they are bothered. I know that when the rear of my IS was repaired the body shop (non Lexus) failed to refit the bumper correctly and it had to go back to be redone.
  23. Chipsaway would be my starting point for the bumper. Suspect with the cost of the light and probably the parking sensor it may exceed that amount. Fixing the rear bumper on my GS300H where an impatient van driver scraped the corner down to the plastic was a £195 because of the pearlescent white paint.
