It seems that if you want a quality Lexus that will last the distance, buy an LS400, LS430 or a Mk3 GS3000 (which I consider a "fastback" LS anyway)...or a 3rd gen RX (next to the LS430, possibly their most bombproof car)). None of those will be a target for canbus thieves either🤬, I now regret selling my 3rd gen as they're selling pups with later models. With product and model expansion, quality is suffering and they'll soon be no better than a typical Merc, Audi or BMW. It's not necessarily the issues and certainly isn't the driving experience, it's the way they (don't) deal with the problems that's the issue. Lexus UK customer service has taken a nose dive in recent years. They (despite the claims) have always had issues but were very diligent at looking after the customer, who always came first. This is where much of their reputation was made but they're fast losing their loyal customer base and repeat custom as a result of the shoddy way they now treat customers. Despicable.

Tell them (Lexus UK) you'll take them to the small claims court and sue for damages if they refuse to replace it or instruct a franchised dealer to do it. Consumer Rights exist to protect the public from this unreasonable behaviour by car companies, along with any other goods covered by other sellers under the Consumer Rights Act of 2015. Any goods you buy must be: Of satisfactory quality; Fit for any particular purpose made known to the seller; and. As described. That fitness for purpose must withstand scrutiny as to what typically might be considered as reasonable under Construction and Use for satisfactory working life and 6 years doesn't cut it. Lexus may though have a case where: 1) the car hasn't been serviced by them and the Relax extended warranty isn't in force and; 2) They have reasonable grounds to suspect that the sunroof has been either misused or neglected to the extent that this damage might be reasonably expected to occur and would have to have a reasoned technical argument for that. We had a sun roof on our last Mercedes which lasted 12 years without a single leak.

I would be furious if this wasn't something on such a recent car, covered by warranty. It's more than trim, it's a necessary seal, and part of the sunroof installation which is covered under warranty. If my dealer said no to this, I'd go straight to Lexus UK and complain. It comes under Consumer Rights as a reasonable expectation, to expect any seal to be warranted arguably for at least ten years fair wear and tear. On such a prestige car to have one perish at 6 years old and not have it replaced without quibbling is unacceptable. You can lengthen their life a little by periodically treating them with silicone grease or oil to keep them supple but if mine goes, I won't take no for an answer from lexus. I've done this with track rod bushings which went at 5 years old, was initially told they weren't covered, complained and had two done under warranty. Don't be afraid to complain.

The Relax warranty is, unfortunately, dependant upon following the service schedule recommended in the service handbook as that is the manufacturer recommendation. Any dealer telling you otherwise is talking rubbish and should be asked for proof of their claims. There's no way a lexus dealer would do an oil change and tell you your car is fully warranted for another 12 months, at least not in the T's & C's contained within the wording of the Relax Warranty (google is your friend). I stopped paying the service plan when they shortened it from 3 to 2 years but charged the same price...daylight robbery to fund their hiked labour rates a few years ago. At 3 years it was good value. Not any longer, especially since the breakdown assist was removed fro the deal (so I was told by the service team).

Heard nothing more. Bought a disklok as another additional measure anyway.

Plates aren't the solution really Andy, they're an afterthought and some dealers are still charging a nominal amount to fit them, talk about rubbing salt into the wounds! The long awaited announcement still isn't here and I'm not holding my breath as they've had enough time to make up another story or to invent some other equally unsatisfactory "fix". The longer this goes on,. the less faith I have in Lexus and their dealerships, some of whom remain silent about the issue whilst selling cars to people with no clue about the issues until they come to insure. If it wasn't for the fact that I actually like the model I bought and chanced it on the promise of a fix, I'd have turned my back on Lexus/Toyota. It's the last one I'll ever buy from them. Plenty feel the same way. They're counting on new customers being the younger crowd, with perhaps a slightly more numerous demographic for the LBX and EV models, so really what they're saying to us in the traditional Lexus camp, is "we don't need your custom anyway now...goodbye, thankyou for all you've spent with us, and please close the door on your way out". That's the distinct feeling most of us who've been with them a long time feel.

Yes, just LHS. Not sure whether they need access via bumper trim as some talk of them now punching a hole in the inner wig to reach the wires but depends where the connector is, if behind the nearside front LED it would make sense to park the nearside of the car next to a wall (as they would need to access via front corner of bumper) or next to another car on your driveway.

Thanks Nick. Wheel on 4th gen measures 38cm so it ought to be fine on that too although paddle shifters might get in the way.

Anyone know what the correct Disklok size is for an RX? Wheel measurement might indicate a small is ok, but medium was recommended....better to check with someone who uses one hence the question.

Lets hope so. Rumour now is that their fix may be an offer of an immobiliser developed with Lexus and being offered via Lexus insurance presently (only). That being the case, they're be a queue of RX4 customers with pitchforks and lighted torches picketing Lexus dealerships demanding that ALL RX4 customers get this FOC and not, as currently it appears, just if they insure with Lexus. I'd be appalled if that were the case.

Unfortunately, the Avons I liked aren't available in 235/55 R20 size. Fitted Bridgestone Turanza 6 "Enlighten" tyres this morning...slight discount meant fitted cost was £225 each. Big improvement in handling, road feedback, reduced noise levels and improved comfort. B rated for economy too which is a plus as well as A rated for wet weather. The OE Speedmaxx tyres were made in Japan (most available in the UK are made in Poland) and the tread had started cracking. Date of manufacture on tyre walls was 2021. The whole circumference was crazed with cracks on the outer edge and on one, the tread has started lifting. Not good. Plenty of tread depth left in them though, so 25K miles probably easily achievable on OE tyres. I just couldn't wait to get them off the car though.

I tried Lexus insurance for mine but they didn't mention the immobiliser nor offer it when pushed. Odd. Dealer is adamant that a fix is on its way.....waiting with baited breath as Lexus UK should be covering the cost of the immobiliser if that is indeed the fix, to ALL fourth gen models, FOC.

I had duellers on an old Rav4 and didn't find them great in the wet tbh nor mileage that good for a premium tyre. I changed them to Yokohamas which were better on that car. One tyre on my current RX is a dueller, presumably fitted as the owner couldn't get the OE Dunlops after a puncture or something. It's practically new. It's a shame really but no point in me changing both fronts for something different to what's on each back corner, so I'll keep the Dueller as an emergency spare tyre and maybe find a used rim to stick it on rather than use a space saver if needed. The oems are sportmaxx tyres and sporty, they're not. On a test drive on a dry roundabout, without pushing on too hard, they squealed their way around the roundabout! My Rx3 on the same route simply gripped like a limpet when fitted with the Zx7 Avons. The Sportmax tyres on mine has one rear half worn, two fronts well worn with the edge treads showing cracking across the rubber and one of them has a screw embedded in it, so really I'm left with little choice but to change all four. It came from the dealership with this mishmash of tyres, as they weren't keen on replacing them for me on a premium car at a premium price. Not impressed but wanted that particular model which is hard to find locally.

Thanks Pete, good to know. As I hadn't any experience of them, I opted for the "safe" option (Turanza 6's seem very popular with suv owners) this time but will give them a go next time as there seems to be something of a consensus from those that have tried them.

Got some comparative prices. 4nr BluEarth A61's in 20 inch £198 per corner fitted and balanced (not a bad price) 4nr Bridgestone Turanza's fitted and balanced £230 per corner. I know there's a saving of £120 if i went with the Yokos, but decided to go with Bridgestones purely on ratings and no reports of harsher ride which yokos seem to have picked up a few comments about.

I don't know about a motor problem but my old RX3 occasionally wouldn't operate when it rained on auto, and had to be switched to manual. It was an intermittent issue possibly sensor related but no fault codes were detected. Conversely, it picked up wiper speed when no increase in rain intensity occurred and had to be switched to manual. How did we manage when there wasn't auto wipers😂. New one works perfectly, no issues yet. The other common issue is that the linkage between wipers relies on the tension in one of the securing nuts to make the drivers wiper work and needs a very occasional nip up. Last time I changed my wiper blades, the drivers wiper stopped working (coincidence) and the fault was traced quickly to a nut that had come loose on the linkage. 10 yr old RX3.

Not so. Some will want the car for selling on, others will want to strip as much as possible. if they were doing it for £100 for parts, it'd hardly be 1) worth the risk of getting caught or 2) investing £5K in the software/hardware they need to steal the cars. Thefts have gone down since the plates were rolled out but are still reportedly happening to some of those who had them fitted. It certainly reduces the risks but owners are still £4 to £6K out of pocket for damage caused by attempted thefts. Until the sotfware is rolled out to FIX the vulnerability, they'll continue to target these cars.

Yes, apparently they closed a year or two back but ZX7's are still being sold. You can get them for the 450 in 18 or 19 inch size but the 20 inch are too wide at 255 and I want to retain the comfort of a 55 sidewall so those are out.

Speaking with my local supplier, he has recommended two upper mid range tyres...the Yoko' BluEarth XL061's and the Bridgestone Turanza 6's in 102 load rating. I looked at the reviews for the T6's and they look very good for the money (a little more than the Yokos but still within my £230 budget). Be interested in experience of these from those who've used them. Yokos apparently give a harsher ride over bumpy surfaces due to stiff sidewall.

I always used Avon ZX7's for my RX3 as they had great wet weather grip, were very quiet, lasted a good 3 years (tyres are recommended to be changed within 3 years anyway) and were not that expensive at £148, fitted per corner. I can't get them for my new RX which has 20 inch rims (local supplier doesn't stock them in 20") so was thinking of trying the Yokohama BluEarth-XT AE61 tyres (199 per corner, fitted). Not cheap but not as expensive as Duellers or Cross Climates. Has anyone tried these? Other recommendations welcomed. Not looking to spend more than £230 per side fitted

Your nearest Lexus dealer should be able to confirm but it depends on which Franchise fitted them. I picked up my 2021 RX Friday and plates had already been fitted.

Sustainability is not the reality. If we were being truly sustainable, none of us would be running about in big thirsty SUVs in the first place! Cost cutting is all about value engineering solutions for profit, and as someone involved in manufacture, I see this as a value engineering (cost cutting) exercise which ticks some arbitrary "sustainability" tick boxes because policy says... The same is true for modern touch screens integrated into the HMI design which is pure and simple value engineering as they're way cheaper to standardise across a range of models. I loathe touch screens in cars, but some only offer them now with few buttons anywhere else. It makes more sense to not produce EV's at all with current tech and infrastructure if companies were truly long term providing lower carbon footprint solutions. It's all getting a bit too deep and meaningless though. Point is, you pay a lot for a motor like this and a basic expectation is that the damned thing comes with a real life, non virtual, pick it up and thumb through it handbook.

I used to (every year) use a dual action polisher, after using a clay bar and lubrication solution to remove all the environmental grime, along with 1800 followed by 2300 or 2500 grit polish. It lifts all the swirl marks and polishes to a deep shine. Took me around 3 hours to do an RX. Following that, I would use Menzerna's Lock & Seal polymer finish, then revert to weekly washes with PH neutral snow foam and waxing with a carnauba rich wax like macguires techwax. However, speaking with a few pro detailers , there are DIY ceramics (none of which are true ceramics but cross-linked polymer polishes loaded with SiO2) made now which can be easily DIY applied and which are very good indeed. I now use the CarPro CQuartz products. Once done, all you need do for the next 3 years is wash the car weekly using a PH neutral foam or hand washing solution, dry and spray apply CarPro Elixer spray to bring back a deep lustrus shine without the need for waxing. Wax looks good for a short while but doesn't last long and takes way more effort applying and buffing. Once the initial cut/polish is done to correct swirls and scratches, you only need re-apply the CQuartz every 3 years and the cost is about £40. It's as good as anything Lexus offers at their dealerships costing £800 per vehicle treatment imho. Just had my RX done and it looks showroom. Can be used on windscreens and headlamps too.
