The hits keep coming!
GSLV6 replied to Phil xxkr's topic in RX 300 / RX 350h / RX 400h / RX 200t / RX 450h+ / RX 500h Club
.....but according to Lexus UK, this did not effect RX models destined for EU Countries nor the UK. How can that be given there's no difference to RX models, only to the standards by which each country operates for safety? The answer it seems is that issues were limited to some "batches" with the anti collision/BSM equipment and on pedestrian safety testing, so the article wasn't being fully honest as not all vehicles nor vehicle years of those models were affected. I was assured that all models being imported into the UK are fully compliant and that there is no issues with the electronic safety aids for UK customers. -

Thanks Ryaan, I'll take a look. Got apple car play up and sorted so may just stick with apple maps. Annoyingly, even though IOS is up to date on my phone, it isn't allowing spotify on screen as an option for car play and no way in settings I can see to change this. I'm sure I've seen it on other car play set ups. -

There's a "page 2"? Must admit never had any issues at all using Lexus navigation except now finding my way around new system. Maybe I've been lucky but good to have apple maps option. I have waze but I detest that. Made for a child graphics, annoying voicing and no better than my garmin nav units -
Just a quick one....is there any way to switch navigation from co-ordinate based under address, to post code based on the RX4 or do you just need to enter the house name/nr with a space, followed by the postcode? My RX3 menu was different and specified post code.I know I have the choice of Waze or Apple maps with an iphone connected but if I didn't want to use the phone and use the standard navigation it'd be handy to know.

It may not be Michael in pure mpg terms. The reason that I use V power though has less to do with mpg and more to do with caring for the fuel system. It doesn't seem to give me more than 1 or 2 mpg more BUT what does make it worth it imho is that it used to have little to no Ethanol present despite the E5 tag, now it uses perhaps 1%, along with the likes of Texaco Super Unleaded. Both these brands use less than most other suppliers. This ensures both slightly more mpg but importantly, it also means a much lower concentration of Ethanol which is both hygroscopic (introduces water from vapour naturally present in the air into your fuel system) and extremely damaging to various plastics and rubber seals as well as leading to accelerated corrosion of some alloy parts. One of my motorcycles had it's fuel system badly damaged by the use of E10 ethanol fuel over several years use which is why I won't use it given a choice.

I use silicone grease in a squeezable tube for door seals and sunroof seals (essential to prevent sunroof seal deteriorating). I dab in a finger and rub into the rubber all round. For door hinges, I remove most of the old grease and just lightly reapply lithium grease from a tin, wiping off the excess.

Failing 12V battery won't affect engine running at all. Why do you think it's failing? 29mpg on this variant is about right for an overall average. You have to be very gentle on the throttle to better 30mpg average, mixed driving. Ride quality wasn't the best on the early RX's...they all pitch and roll a little but thumps and bumps or excessive rear movement does indeed sound like torn bushes. Advisories are usually given when the bushes start to de-bond but are still in place. It's a weak point on the RX. Mine all needed doing by 45 miles despite treating the car with a gentle right boot. Tyres matter on these too. For ride quality, don't over inflate the tyres. Stick with the recommended 33 to 36psi all round. Over inflation especially on worn bushings won't do much for the bushing life or ride quality.

Enquiry
GSLV6 replied to Rolis72's topic in Lexus GS 300 / Lexus GS 250 / Lexus GS 430 / Lexus GS 450h / Lexus GS 460 Club
As above, only the bonnet on the GS models was made of aluminium. I'd walk away from that one. My old RX450h (2014 FSport with genuine very low miles) I see is available now on the forecourt of listers, Cheltenham (I saw it there on Thursday) if that would interest you instead Roland? That one is genuine, immaculate throughout and A1 mechanically. I can vouch for it. -
I used to use the Avon ZX7's all year round on my RX and really rate them highly. Very quiet, grip like a limpet in the dry, are A rated for the wet and give a comfortable ride. My old rims were 19 inch but sadly I can't get themin a 235/55 profile for the 20" rims I now have on the newer RX. I have just fitted the latest Bridgestone Turanza 6 "Enliten" tyres and they've been great in the few weeks I've been using them. On average, I'm getting 2mpg more than the stock Dunlop sportmax tyres which on mine had hardened off compounds, little grip in dry or wet and I hated them. Couldn't wait to get them off the car. The other ones with a really good rep are the Yokohama BluEarth AE61 tyres, cheaper than the Turanzas, A rated for the wet, low noise and lots of positive feedback. I was quoted £198 a corner fitted for 20" wheels.

Must admit I never updated the satnav maps in my 2014RX and still found it totally reliable, and as the 2021 model came with updates for that year, I'll not even attempt to update mine as it seems to work as well as my garmin. I also have a bmw navigator6 unit for the bike which I can use in the car if needed. I guess if I want to use Apple Maps I have to upload or connect my phone to the car?

The new Prius is a great car but so is the ES....it seems that every time Lexus release a cracking good saloon (GS300V6 Mk3, GS450hMk4, ES300) it gets discontinued after a few years production. The ES only had one thing missing from the dynamics of the older GS and that was RWD, but it is none the worse for that thanks to a very well considered traction control system and more compliant suspension. Personally I don't much care for the looks of the newst Lexus models, although the RZ has grown on me. In general, most people will buy with their heads and the Lexus models are so much more expensive than the Toyota chassis they're built on, most in the UK will opt for the Toyota. The Rav4 price has steadily crept up in recent years and it, arguably, is the better buy over the NX but other than that, pricing reflects the better quality of the Lexus models, especially the interiors. The big omission with such premium cars is the total lack of any underbody protection so whichever model one buys, a trip to your nearest Lanoguard specialist is essential.

Lexus have responded and say that all outstanding "recall" notices are in relation to the steel plate fitment, and it's just that Lexus UK's website hasn't bothered being updated once the work is done. The dealerships record the work and that's then on the Lexus UK database for that car. In relation to the article above, Lexus have responded and say that it was in relation to non-European and US market cars, and did not affect any car sold in the UK.

Pro-Tech paint protection....is it worth it?
GSLV6 replied to GSLV6's topic in Lexus General Discussions
I've had a paint specialist go over the whole car and correct any blemishes by polishing them out before a decontam pre-wash, rinse, main wash (Car pro shampoo), rinse, then after thoroughly drying it, he applied Car pro's "3 year" Si02 paint protection, and advised I use CarPro Reload after using the same car washing stuff, which maintains the ceramic coating, extending its life. Like you Gary, I've always done my own detailing and have a Daspro6 I use for the occasional paint correction but elected to use an independent detailer to get a good base from which to continue the paintwork maintenance. Everyone has their own routine, and favoured products. I really like Maguire's techwax but won't use it over the ceramic coating as it will hinder the build up of the reload stuff, so my routine (weekly) is to start with a quick blast to get the worst of the muck off with a power washer, then snow foam (Autoglym's prewash PH neutral stuff), and power rinse, immediately followed by the car wash shampoo (hand applied with a fleece mitt), one final rinse and towel dry. It gets treated better than I treat myself Lol! The Reload coating should only be needed every month or so to build up and maintain the hydrophobic coating and swirl resistance. I find it therapeutic but it does take a good few hours to do properly. -
🤨 That might well explain the campaign now doing the rounds asking owners to contact their dealer for details of a "voluntary customer service campaign or outstanding safety recall". That's why a few on here have checked with Lexus UK who confirm as such, yet dealership service teams have been told nothing.....yet! You couldn't make it up.
-
Just checked online and mine is subject to the recall campaign: "We have identified that your Lexus is subject to a voluntary customer service campaign or outstanding safety recall." I have the plates fitted too, so can't be that unless their records need updating. I contacted Lexus who say nothing's outstanding on the service records (which should show it) and the software "fix" hasn't yet been notified or rolled out so can only guess that whilst the service team's records are up to date, the customer portal isn't for some odd reason! My plates were done 2 months back.

I recommend the Disklok Gold edition (newest one) which is Sold Secure and recommended by the Police, failing that, there is a cheaper "Extreme" whole wheel cover lock option from another manufacturer, not as secure but still seems highly reviewed, and finally the Lexus recommended Stoplock Pro Elite. The lock itself on that is good and it withstands attack as well as the disklok plus is easier to store but crucially can be overcome by cutting the steering wheel although if placed as suggested between spokes, it involves several awkward cutting angles to achieve this. Only locks which cover the whole wheel offer more security as with the first two recommended. Some people also buy a hefty (more than 12mm link size) bike chain and lock and pass the chain through a front wheel to deter theft or a decent proper car wheel lock and use that in combination with the steering wheel lock. Decent bike locks and chains are very expensive. TBH, not many (even professional) thieves might bother to try and pinch a car with these deterrents fitted due to the added time and attention it would create. A bare minimum recommendation would be have the steel plates fitted and use a steering lock. Trackers imho aren't worth the cost. Thieves will pinch a car with a tracker as they can rip the parts out they want in minutes anyway, pus if it's the car they want they'll leave it somewhwere for a day to see if it's being watched and if not, try and locate the tracker. It doesn't prevent theft in the first place but you stand a better chance of having (what's left of your) car recovered. There are a few trackers which include immobilisers which piggy back onto the canbus system and add a layer of security requiring a key fob supplied with the tracker to be in proximity before the engine can be started. Why lexus just doesn't roll these out to all customers as the obvious solution is beyond me (cost?)
-
It seems we're being left with one deterrent only, and that is to fit the best steering wheel lock you can find. Thieves may not bother and go onto the next one if they see one is fitted. How ironic that with the march of technology used on these vehicles, we have to revert to a basic physical deterrent to make things more difficult/unattractive. Don't skimp as cheap ones are a complete waste of money and time.

RX4 pending....
GSLV6 replied to GSLV6's topic in RX 300 / RX 350h / RX 400h / RX 200t / RX 450h+ / RX 500h Club
I agree Sam. Mine is fitted with the cumbersome disklok Gold but it's worth persevering with as it may be enough to put off wannabe thieves from attempting a theft plus has the steel plates too. -
I did Ron. I did in fact get a cheaper quote (£548) fully comp but cover was limited and it was a web only service, whereas NFU offered greater financial cover, a person on the end of the 'phone 24/7 in the event of a claim and that included a year's nationwide breakdown recovery too which the cheaper one did not have.
