  3. TBH I think a change in wind direction is likely to affect mpg more. I guess it's because the a/c compressor is electrically driven so any effect on mpg is somewhat clouded by the hybrid interactions.
  4. I'm the opposite, looks very futuristic. The thing that slightly bothers me is the variable steering ratio that means one never has to cross arms or take hands from the yoke to navigate even tight corners (F1 style!)

  6. There is a Sport driving mode (selected by the drive mode dial) and a Sport transmission mode (selected by moving the transmission shifter towards the S symbol). The former determines how the car as a whole drives, stiffer suspension, tighter steering, rapid throttle response. The latter determines how the transmission works, in S mode it operates like a 'normal' automatic with gears changed by using the paddles. Well, it does in my RC...
  7. The replacement cluster is looking for systems that you say are not installed in the car, so the codes will keep returning. Can you try with Techstream to disable the two functions, so the cluster doesn't expect them. Perhaps there are options with the cluster setup that can be 'switched off' by deleting the option (coding it out)? The other possibility might be if the car has the hardware to support LDA and PCS i.e. camera and radar (unlikely I suspect) you could code the car to enable the two functions? Just deleting error codes isn't going to be enough
  8. Not sure if the NX has the same Sport mode for the transmission as my RC but I find this gives the best mode for "making progress". Very realistic gear changes and using the paddles gives instant PlayStation like shifts. The car will reject any shifts that over-rev or labour the engine. Great for 'downshifting' prior to an overtaking manoeuvre. With the rev counter displayed one can see the engines response to the paddles, revs rising or falling as one 'changes gear'. With the ASC enabled one hears it also, quite convincing Amazing technology!
  9. It is a constantly variable transmission, just not one using cones and belts but I take the point. The CVT of old (DAFmatic?) was hilarious to use! This eCVT is wonderfully engineered, simple (mechanically at least) and (hopefully!) very reliable with no clutches and brake bands as used in 'normal' automatic boxes.
  10. Virtually impossible to say as each case, policy and personal circumstances will differ. Sorry not much help now but it would have been better to leave them to use their own insurance (assuming they have insurance) as most policies allow one to drive any car, not owned or hired to one, with that owner's permission.
  11. Does the LED driver use PWM to control power to the light? I ask as after fitting such a power supply to my pond pump the cat flap microchip reader stopped working. The cable feeding feeding the controller runs beside the cat flap Apparently these power supplies generate emf that interferes with rf
  12. Both my RCs came "not black", something I feel Lexus do better than others My Mercedes I had retrimmed in red from the very drab black it came with from the factory. Definitely a fan of a non-black interior!
  13. If the RX is the same as my RC300h then the paddles work as one would expect so long as the transmission (not the drive mode) is in Sport mode. Then the gear changes are very realistic and very PlayStation like. Engine revs rise and fall one would expect. In normal transmission mode they charge the degree of engine braking to the detriment of regenerative braking

  15. Just read the instruction manual for the machine and it clearly states never to wash out the filter box. Presumably as one will simply be releasing those plastic microfibres into the water ways! The filter only comes into use on synthetic fibre programmes and it warns against washing cottons with the synthetic programme, again presumably because cotton fibres will very quickly 'fill' the filter.
  16. Is there any way you can 'recycle' the filter yourself, perhaps by back flushing? What happens if you simply remove and replace the filter, does the machine measure flow resistance or cycles in use?
  17. One could ask the same of many newer requirements but how would one enforce it? Even the so called 'diesel-gate' update can't be done without the owner's agreement (unless done without knowledge!)
  18. A gentle vacuuming to remove dust and grit, then a wipe over with a damp cloth is all that's routinely required. It's basically vinyl so for ingrained dirt use a proprietary vinyl cleaner and a soft bristle brush.

  21. I suppose the cloths I use might be better described as moleskin texture rather than thick microfiber.
