An interesting statement, as another (with many many years experience in many different arms of motorsport) has posted, on a different forum in response to a similar comment in connection with F1
Q. "I did wonder whether the team engineers might have sufficient control to temporarily reduce power in a situation like this, to enforce team orders. Probably a thousand and one really good reasons why they’d never do it even if they could!"
A. "No they can't! Only the driver can alter the car settings via the steering wheel when it is on the circuit, so there is no way the engineers can play 'god' with the cars. They can only control (a limited number of things) when the car is hard wired in the pit box. The telemetry from car to pits is very strictly a one way system!"
