  1. Manual also means one can increase the revs in preparation of an overtake, 'kickdown' in a normal autobox.. Engine breaking is effective but in the hybrid one should use the 'brakes' as all one is doing is recharging the battery, via regenerative braking. Not like a normal car where one could experience brake fade on a long downhill, so one would shift down to use the engine to slow.
  2. What's the schedule for the IS250? On my RC300h the filter is inspected every 24mths and replaced every 48mths. How expensive are Lexus air filters?
  3. I believe the system also uses speed and steering angle inputs to calculate position, in case of GPS signal loss, for example, in tunnels, underground car parks.. My experience of the premium Nav, coming from years of using the Mercedes COMAND is the Lexus system is more complex to initiate but is no different in route calculation and direction. Voice guidance is far more informative though a little repeatitive...
  4. Those types of filters worked ok on carburettor engines but on modern injection engines with MAF and ECU controlled fuelling they have no effect on power. They may increase induction noise though. OEM filters don't restrict breathing on the unmodified engine. Once one starts with remaps and other tuning mods the engine would benefit from a better induction but would require bigger cross section intake and supply pipework too. Personally i wouldn't fit the oiled type filter, they've been shown to allow the engine to ingest much higher amounts of crap. If over oiled they can adversely affect the MAF.
  5. I did buy a touch up pen and clear coat stick!! Well, if they record such minutia in the history, bodes well
  6. Just checked the service history on my Oct'16 RC. Very short.. Just the 3 entries 'PDI' and 'TUP 1H9' and 'TUP3T5' But can anybody tell me what TUP 1H9 and TUP 3T5 means? There's no detail in either the last two entries
  7. I agree to a point but if you up the flow rate too high, in a low aspect column, once the column is flooded the water will flow more readily directly from inlet to outlet, creating 'stagnant' regions around the outside. In a high aspect ratio column the same will happen but to a much lesser extent, the column is much taller the water flows through a deeper resin bed and one wastes less resin filling the dead areas.
  8. My linked vessel was a poor example but illustrated what I meant by DI. Regarding vessel sizing, flow rates and efficient use of resin have a read of this excellent post, linked below. Explains it far better than I could paraphrase .. http://www.detailingworld.co.uk/forum/archive/index.php/t-361829.html
  9. The taller and thinner (within reason) the vessel the more efficient use of the resin. Be careful of window cleaner focussed tanks as they tend to be low and fat, so as not to tip over on the move or destabilise the van...
  10. DI water rinse is the way forward. No water marks and no need to dry... http://www.theultimatefinish.co.uk/aqua-gleam/0ppm-de-ionising-water-filter-12.aspx
  11. By resetting the OBC at a judicious point one can get phenomenal mpg figures....
  12. I got the leather folder, complete with manual and service book.
  13. Only seen the white, blue and yellow 'in the wild' . Solar Flare at my dealers looks striking but not to my taste. Looks better on the RC than other models though.
  14. Downloaded the Nav manual for my 2016 from the portal. Had to input the unit number first.
  15. Coming from the CLS55 with its 16mpg to the RC300h with a current 47mpg has made me a stranger at my local petrol station. The staff sent a letter of condolences to my wife, thinking i must have passed away!
  16. I'm using Meguires Synthetic X-Press spray wax on my Sonic Red RC. Can be used as a drying and sprayed into a wet car or even used dry in direct sunlight. Very easy on and easy buffing off. Can be used on all surfaces and won't leave white residue or staining on textured plastics. Highly recommended.
  17. Yes, first one I've seen on the road since taking delivery of mine last October. We past a white RC300h going south on the M5 today. Young shaven headed chap driving, cruising along in the middle lane. Only other one I've seen was parked in our local B&Q... We had a lovely drive down to Burgh Island. I'm really impressed with the RC on the motorway but even more so once we entered the narrow, twisty Devon lanes. The car handles superbly, taking the sharp bends with virtually no roll and immediately powering up the following hill. Just so smooth. The roads down here are a joy, no potholes and lovely smooth tarmac. I did discover the RC door mirrors are a tad wider than the Merc's but spring back without damage .... 😉
  18. I had a nightmare removing a couple like those when fitted to my C class. The grub screw welded itself solid... Only fit plastic caps now. Cheap and available anywhere.
  19. If the engine has already started (from a cold start) the EV mode cannot be forced. One has to press the EV button in the short period (approx 30sec in my experience) between the Ready light showing and the engine starting. Also using the windshield defogger will prevent EV mode.
  20. My comment was in respect to Rayaan's older models (2012) Your 2016 model should behave as my 2016 car..
  21. Yup, me to. AC always set to auto,, Lexus must have altered how this function operates
  22. On my 2016 RC300h the atf is to be inspected every 36months and replaced every 72months. MB used to have 'sealed for life' transmissions but that quickly changed.. What harm can it do to replace the atf a regular intervals? I would change the fluid and filter if it hasn't been done..
  23. Yes, my wife can open the passenger door when I drop her off without me having the unlock the car using the Unlock button.
  24. I thought one could always open a locked door from the inside handle, a safety thing surely? I'd suggest there's something amiss.
