  1. The hybrid engine runs the Atkinson cycle as opposed to the more usual Otto cycle, perhaps that's significant?
  2. Glare polishes seem to major on providing a high surface tension to paint surfaces, causing sheeting rather than beading. The surface should feel smooth, unless it wasn't prepared properly. How long did the shop have the car for? https://www.glare.com/products?cid=MQ%3D%3D&pn=Vehicles I'd suggest going back to the detailer.
  3. Have you checked the boot for loose items, even in the spare wheel well?
  4. Exactly this. I set the desired temperature and set everything on auto that includes recirc, fan speed and air distribution and rarely every change anything (maybe temp if my passengers request it). My experience with SEAT, Mercedes and Lexus is that these systems perfectly maintain themselves, quickly settle to the desired conditions with the minimum hysteresis. I have never had strange smells from the climate control. Yes most a/c compressors shutdown at approx 5c to prevent the evaporator from freezing up but if one keeps the inside of the windows properly cleaned, misting is only a transient thing at first start-up.
  5. This is what the website says about the data .. "How far does the data go back? The data officially goes back all the way to the year 1900. However, the completeness and accuracy of the data gets progressively worse the further you go back, especially in regards to colour. How accurate is the data? As with all government data sets, there are errors. Most commonly, vehicles are registered under slightly incorrect model names. To be sure you're looking at the correct data for your car, it's worth cross-referencing the model with what it says on your V5 document" Recognising the fact that data accuracy isn't 100% and the website itself simply purchases data fields from the DVLA.
  6. This is basically what the Autowatch Ghost does. Once installed you have the 2-step verification. https://autowatch.co.uk/veh-sec/ghost-2-menu
  7. From reading Lexus-EU-Tech docs (specifically for the RC300h) regen is only a function of the (foot) braking system. If one uses the paddles to induce engine braking one only achieves the same level of regen as if one simply lifts of the throttle. But as you discovered at each down-shift the car will invoke regenerative braking to bring down the engine revs to within the optimal for that gear range. When using regenerative braking (by applying the foot brake) the engine is stopped and effectively de-coupled from the drivetrain by operating MG1 to relieve MG2 of any engine drag, thereby maximising the regen efficiency It's a fiendishly clever and complex system,..
  8. Lexus model naming convention https://blog.lexus.co.uk/lexus-model-name-meanings-explained/
  9. I'd imagine the door armrest would be separate from the door card, so easily replaceable. Repairable as Rayaan says but not sure it would be invisible enough personally I'd replace the armrest
  10. I love these technical discussions, one learns something every day. In my experience, as posted above, if I use the paddles to restrict the gear range (I'm in normal drive mode) going down the long steep hill to home, the engine revs rise but the regen meter shows minimal recovery. If I leave the transmission in D(again in normal mode) and gently apply the foot brake I can get maximum regen on the meter all the way down. Does the regen meter not display recovery then, if the system works as @Britprius describes? Or is what John describes only true when the traction battery is fully charged already?
  11. Generates 200kWh excess energy each year... Impressive! https://www.popularmechanics.com/technology/infrastructure/a28748306/worlds-largest-electric-vehicle-dump-truck/
  12. Not in my experience. if one invokes engine braking, by using the paddles/selector to restrict the gear range, increasing engine revs but no extra regen. Regen only with brake pedal application and yes, only if the traction battery requires it (easily 90% of the time)
  13. If the old wheels and TPMS sensors weren't far enough away when the new ones were added it will have caused problems. May even added them as a second set. Check your handbook on how to switch between sets?
  14. Not really as the specification is set at cold and set at a pressure determined so as to rise to a 'running' pressure.
  15. The pressures stated on the door post label. My experience with garage set pressures has been they have all been set high. That said how confident are you on the accuracy of your pressure gauge?
  16. This is my experience also. I have a fairly long steep hill down to my home and using the paddles to restrict the gear range has no effect on regen just spins up the ICE. I just keep a gentle pressure on the brakes for max regen and can pretty much fully recharge the traction battery.
  17. "Theories of the etymology of the Lexus name have suggested it is the combination of the words "luxury" and "elegance,"[20] and that it is an acronym for "luxury exports to the U.S."[20] According to Team One interviews, the brand name has no specific meaning and simply denotes a luxurious and technological image.[18] Prior to the release of the first vehicles, database service LexisNexis obtained a temporary injunction forbidding the name Lexus from being used because it might cause product confusion.[21] The injunction threatened to delay the division's launch and marketing efforts.[21] The U.S. appeals court lifted the injunction, deciding that there was little likelihood of confusion between the two products.[21]" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lexus
  18. Not according to Lexus During that meeting, project manager John French was playing with some of the names as he doodled on his notepad. Dropping the first letter of ‘Alexis’ to use the ‘a’ as a determiner gave John the name ‘Lexis’, as in ‘a Lexis’. This was then only a minor progression into the word ‘Lexus’, which sounded less clipped and offered connotations of luxury and technology. By 1988, the LS 400 model name was chosen and the design for Lexus retailers was finalised. The new brand was set to launch. https://blog.lexus.co.uk/lexus-history/
  19. See, now, nothing ever goes right when one is rushing... Now I've sat down, gathered my thoughts (consulted with the handbook !) and this is what I was trying to say. On the key fob, press unlock twice while pressing and holding lock. Confirm that the electronic key indicator flashes 4 times. This will disable that fob from operating the keyless entry system. Remember to do this with the spare key also.
  20. Sorry posted in a haste... I ment the lock button on the fob, not the door. As you say double touch on the door handle will deadlock the car.
  21. No more or less secure than any other marques. One can easily disable the fob by a double press of the lock button. This prevents the fob from transmitting.
  22. Should but sadly dealers/salesmen, of any flavour, seem very lacking in tech/spec knowledge.. If one can speak directly with the technicians, quite often a different story
