  1. We have a vaccine for seasonal flu but still approx 15-20,000 die each year. I don't expect it to be any different with COVID-19. We already have 4 corona type viruses endemic in the human population that seasonally account for approx 10% of cold type infections. The uncertainty with COVID-19 is, as it establishes itself in the human population, will it mutate into something far more dangerous to life (as did the 1918 Spanish flu virus)? Until these sorts of things are established nations have to treat it as 'worse case'. As I understand it COVID-19 is a single strand RNA type corona-virus and these don't typically mutate drastically. The genetic code for COVID-19 is known and vaccines have been constructed but these must undergo efficacy and safety testing which take a significant time. Then mass production will take even more time (assuming the selected vaccine can be successfully scaled up) we are already looking to early next year at this stage. Only then can distribution can start but who receives it first? It won't be the general population... Interesting times and certainly the situation will evolve dramatically over the next few weeks.
  2. "Gears to go, brakes to slow" was drummed into me in my early driving days.. In the hybrid gentle braking will be regenerative as already said but one can brake quite firmly and still only use regen, it all depends on road speed and pedal application speed. Using the paddles to slow brings in the engine to slow the car with no benefit from regen. I too have a steep long downhill to my home and always "ride the brakes" to keep within the speed limit. By the time I reach the bottom the traction battery is fully recharged and ready for a silent getaway in the morning! The attached docs from Lexus-Tech.EU (for my RC300h) may be of interest? 3. Not the fault of the dealership. Their insurers set the criteria and many now penalise the over 75s and even refuse the over 90s. The dealer did what he could and provided excellent service
  4. Well done, they wouldn't budge when I contacted them, saying I might be better going elsewhere! I can take a hint ...
  5. I went with SAGA this year after many years with Direct Line. The renewal quote from DL was a joke, nearly£200 increase!! SAGA were one of the cheapest and low excess, plus they will hold the premium for three years as long as nothing changes..
  6. Welcome to the club! I made the change from CLS55 to RC300H approx 4yrs ago, now on my second RC and loving it still... Mind you I do miss that supercharged V8..
  7. Is this any use? https://www.marklevinson.com/in-lexus.html#lexus-is
  8. Any additionals to the tow bar required, such as extra cooling for the transmission etc..?
  9. Lexus do a very good kit for cleaning and maintenance of the leather. That said all automotive leather is PU coated so a simple wipe down with a damp cloth is fine. For more dirty seats a mild solution of wool detergent in Luke warm water works well. I wouldn't recommend using conditioners as they simply sit on the surface and attract grit and grime. This then abrades the leather surface, especially in the creases, causing cracks.
  10. Keep yours. 40 euro is cheap for insurance should things go wrong, you can easily swap back to stock..
  11. Yes, I understand all that. My query was can the opening/closing of the windows be done via the door handle touch pad or only via the key fob? I thought that was what the OP was asking?
  12. Yes, I gave up on the covers. The leather is easily cleaned as part of routine cleaning. So much more comfortable than sitting on covers too!
  13. Is that enabling global opening/closing via the door handle? Mine has been set to operate using the remote fob, I didn't know one could also use the touch pad on the door handle?
  14. I used towelling 'easy on, easy off' covers on my cream RC seats for a couple of years. The heating and ventilation worked no issues.
  15. I'd imagine the spring rates would be different as, generally, diesel engines tend to be heavier than petrol versions.
  16. It's heavy because it has a large traction battery in the boot. I can't quite see why the weight would come from the amalgamation of three different platforms?
  17. Here ..
  18. Could the camera be reading the speed limit badges on the back of HGVs and vans?
  19. As there is no mechanical 'engaging and disengaging' with the eCVT transmission it really can only be an electrical glitch. That said there is (I believe) a pressure plate/vibration damper between the engine and the eCVT, perhaps that was slipping? As suggested before, possibly water ingress into a vital connection?
  20. Un-pair the bluetooth association with the car and keep bluetooth switched enabled on the phone and see if the battery drain continues. If it does your problem is with the phone...
  21. Can't imagine how it might fail, except perhaps electrical as the eCVT is very simple mechanically? Constantly meshed gears rotating in an oil bath. But the electronic control side? Maybe a loose connection? All speculation and guesswork. We all wait with baited breath to be updated..
  22. Worrying that they didn't know they needed that part before starting the job? Or is it they have to reorder a part, erm, "modified" during assembly?
