  1. I agree William, I think it's a grandiose term for something that's not really what I understand as a learning neural net. It does though show how relatively complicated it is to control an a/c system. I do believe that the monitoring of driver/passenger temperature has been implemented, just cannot recall which marque it was. I think the 'neural network' in the Lexus is trying to account for how individuals experience temperature depending on environment. Clever stuff all the same..
  2. A couple of excerpts From this doc. Air Con System Description.pdf
  3. Thanks John I've also learnt that the a/c on my RC is controlled by a three layer 'neural network'!
  4. Even if they were to fit, would they be the correct spring rate for the IS200?
  5. @Britprius John I was just reading this lexus-tech.eu doc regarding the a/c system on my RC300h, am I correct in my understanding that the a/c compressor and it's electric motor are both immersed in oil? It does say that the actual compressor is the same scroll type used generally but just electrically driven, so would the oil immersion prevent the rotary shaft seals from drying out? (if nothing else this COVID-19 lockdown is teaching me lots about hybrid batteries and electronics!! )
  6. Holy cr*p Pete! Glad to hear you're on the mend, that sounds a close shave.. Rest up and come back stronger..
  7. Does the alarm have its own rechargeable battery, as is the case with Mercedes?
  8. Do Lexus not have an immobiliser fitted as standard? The alarm is just that, to signal an intrusion but I thought all modern cars had immobilisers fitted to prevent starting the car without the correct security code signal? Are the two the same integrated unit, disable one disable both?
  9. Pretty sure jump start procedure is detailed in the owner's handbook?
  10. If the battery is located within the cabin or load area it is often AGM as they are very resistant to spillage in the event of an accident.
  11. Mmm.. Just tried this on my car and nothing happened until I opened the door. Lexus-tech.eu for my car only mentions while the auxiliary battery is connected, even if the power switch is off, the brake control system activates if the brake pedal is depressed or the door courtesy switches operated. Therefore when servicing the brakes do not open/close the doors or depress the brake pedal if the auxiliary battery is connected. I would imagine there would be an additional warning about approaching the vehicle carrying the key fob, if what you say happened?
  12. I thought that only started once the driver's door is opened?
  13. Really sad to hear this, my sincere condolences Qamar
  14. There's going to be one hell of a backlog in 6 months, MoT stations will be inundated..
  15. TPMS is mandatory on cars registered from January 2015
  16. AGM batteries use sulphuric acid/water mix just as traditional wet or flooded batteries do. In fact I believe all batteries use sulphuric acid/water as the electrolyte https://www.batterystuff.com/kb/articles/5-battery-types-explained-sealed-agm-gel.html
  17. Yes, I did this with my CLS55 and it's pretty much what the CTEK is designed for, permanent connection
  18. I used one of those on my CLS55, only problem was just opening the boot to check the connector indicators would always drop the light from green to amber! But very convenient for a quick connection, I left the leads permanently attached to the battery (well my MB dealership connected it all up for me!) and simply tucked the connector into the trim when not used.
  19. Definitely not true! TPMS is simply measuring the air pressure within the tyres. It makes no odd which tyres are fitted. When did you check the tyres pressures? To get the correct value the tyres must be cold, not driven for at least 4hrs and not in direct sunlight. Early morning is the best time to check.
  20. The traction battery will be fine for many weeks. The 12v battery could be hooked up to a maintenance charger, if you have access to mains supply? I have used and would recommend the CTEK mxs 5. Just connect to the 12v battery and leave connected for the duration.
  21. Can you change the resonant frequency of the exhaust by using worm drive hose clips around the pipe and/or silencer(s)?
  22. A clean car always drives better! That said it's just started peeing down here
  23. I've always believed that if one only uses a car infrequently one must ensure that when it is driven everything gets up to full working temperatures. That should also include the exhaust, making sure to drive out and dry out condensation, otherwise one could be accelerating corrosion in the exhaust.
  24. I believe the only mode in which the traction battery doesn't get charged is 'N' (neutral) I was also under the impression the accelerator is 'disabled' when the brake pedal is depressed?
  25. The groove isn't really that deep, I can feel it with my fingernail but it hasn't got deeper, it just looks more concentrated, if that makes sense?
