  4. In all my years of driving cars with aircon I have never suffered 'the nasty niff'. I tend to set the climate controls once on acquiring the car and rarely change them, a/c is always permanently on. These system have definitely become more 'intelligent' over the years. My Mercs knew when the car windows were open and would adjust the airflow accordingly. I now read my Lexus has a 'neural network intelligence' running the show! Well must admit it's doing a damned fine job and in virtual silence. My Mercs' air ducts used to creak and crack horrendously after being parked in very hot weather as the a/c cooled the interior when setting off. My RC, not a murmur, class!
  5. The recommended tyre pressures are set when the tyres are at ambient temperature (cold), the tyres have not been used for at least 3hrs. Once one starts driving the tyre temperature will increase due to friction and flexing. This rise in temperature also increases the tyre pressure, which as it increases, reduces the amount of tyre flex and in effect stops the rise in tyre temperature and subsequent increase in pressure. (which incidentally is why under-inflated tyres are dangerous, as the low pressure allows prolonged flexing and a dangerous increase in pressure) The recommended 'cold' pressures are calculated to give the designed running or 'hot' pressure. Ambient temperature changes will obviously change this starting point and tyres should be adjusted from winter to summer and back again. Generally in the UK we don't experience huge variations on temperature within the seasons (there are exceptions...) so I tend to allow small variations in 'cold' pressures as the running pressure always evens out the same. Obviously one must always check wear patterns and adjust pressures accordingly.

If you increase the wheel diameter and reduce the tyre profile, as you would need to to keep the rolling circumference and speedometer accuracy within legal requirements, the actual wheel+tyre size will be very similar to the original and so will not fill the arch any better? Just about the only way of reducing that wheel to arch space is to lower the car on it's suspension (another can of worms...) and to fill the arch more is to fit wheel spacers to bring the wheel/tyre edge closer to the arch outer line (yup, another can opened...)

  8. Are the error codes date stamped, when the condition first appeared?
  9. Not sure where the 1000ft comes from but leaving a car unattended with the engine running is an offence. As is idling the engine for a prolonged period. If you have a private driveway this may be ok but the left idling may still be a problem, if someone complains. Also check how your insurer views the modification. Must admit my RC cools down very quickly. I use the global opening, windows and sunroof and get in and start the car, turn on the seat ventilation and drive off. The extra ventilation through the open windows removes the excessive heat, the a/c quickly pumps out chilled air. Then I close the windows. Bliss...
