  1. I understood it to mean when using the paddles in D mode one only reduced the available shift range the car could automatically change in. As one would use on hilly roads to stop the car constantly changing up then down again. If one selected 4 then the would automatically change gear only in the range 1-4. When putting the transmission into S mode the car would not change gear automatically unless to protect the engine from labouring or over revving. In fact I think it will hold the revs at the red line, one hits the rev limiter but the car won't change up. The car will change down if one slows enough to stop the engine stalling That's how it seems to work in my RC anyway ..
  2. It's interesting how different models implement AVS differently. On my RC the system is constantly in operation, adjusting the damping depending on the road surface and driver inputs both braking and steering. Switching drive modes just forces the system to adopt a different range of compliance and speed of adjustment.
  3. Interestingly in my 2019 handbook Lexus refer to them as head restraints, they are not 'active' and have fore and aft adjustment. For me the foremost position just brushes my hair (No.2 cut 😉 ) The restraints do lean forward i.e. the top is more forward than the lower edge but one must remember to adjust the height so the centre of the restraint is level with the tops of one's ears. I find it very uncomfortable to 'rest' my head against the restraint when driving but when parked up, waiting for Mrs Nemesis, it's very relaxing. Must say these F-Sport seats are one of the most comfortable designs I've experienced 👍
  4. I'd echo David's comments above, this time in relation to the RC300h. The great thing with AVS is one can change the character of the car. The 2019 face-lifted incarnation is markedly better than the original 2016. Much more supple around town on the normal setting, tightening up nicely when in Sport on the open roads. I must say I find Sport+ just a bit too stiff on our roads for comfort and can be a little uncontrolled around bumpy bends. I'd strongly recommend test driving models with and without AVS and see how you find the differences.
  5. Something like this perhaps? https://www.hozelock.com/product/long-car-brush-pro/
  6. Try it, perfect around town and in those motorway roadworks 👍
  7. The trouble with setting cruise control is that the vehicle will always drive at the maximum speed, which may not be the safe speed for the conditions. What I really miss in my Lexus is what (nearly) all Mercedes have and that is a soft speed limiter, where one sets (in a similar fashion as one sets CC) the maximum speed to which one can accelerate but the car doesn't try and maintain that speed the driver still has complete control up to the set limit. Much better system for not exceeding the speed limit IMHO I wonder why more marques don't include this?
  8. There is no excuse for not renewing one's road tax, if one desires to continue using the car but the automatic fine is for not declaring SORN, which is the default condition of not having road tax.
  9. From .gov website.. (my highlighting) "You must insure and tax your vehicle if you do not have a SORN. If you do not, you’ll automatically be fined £80 for not having a SORN. There’s also a fine for having an uninsured vehicle. https://www.gov.uk/sorn-statutory-off-road-notification?
  10. If you are driving in such a manner that the VSC is "ruining" your enjoyment I suggest you should be driving on track not the public highway. I'm pretty sure if you had an accident and your insurer discovered the disabled safety system you'd be in deep waters and no cover. How about sourcing or building a track car and having your fun that way?
  11. Does fitting a towbar have no effect on insurance premiums? Personally I'd have the dual electrics fitted as it makes it more flexible and possibly easier to move on. Is it significantly more expensive? I would also check out prices from a specialist towbar fitter unless the car is financed, in which case the finance company may have a view on who does the job?
  12. Are you stopped with transmission in Neutral?
  13. My first RC had this, not bad but noticeable only because the cabin is otherwise so quiet. My second RC, facelift version has redesigned door mirrors, also has it but significantly less. As commented it seems worse when blustery, particularly crosswinds.
