  1. If you require more in depth info check this site out, just click on the topic ie egr maintainance then click read more, its an excellent site.. http://www.oilem.com/
  2. With regards to the power loss this is usually the start of dpf saturation even if you do 300 miles a day you need to keep the revs up for a continuous burst, manual boxes allow this much easier than autos,if you hit 80mph in 5th or 6th the engine isnt working the dpf effectivley as it needs heat to work the soot out,The loss of power can feel like a petrol engine misfire causing the car to judder this happens when the ecu decides to regen the dpf but if you come of the gas the exhaust fills with fuel intended for the regen but isnt burnt of properly which creates backpressure and the juddering effect,The dpf egr oil fuel system is a wicked circle if one starts to suffer its downhill unless you take action its no good cleaning the egr and hoping for the best, its blocked for a reason, poor fuel, incorrect oil type, city driving or low rev motorway driving,, A good indicator of it all going wrong is to keep a check on your mpg,if it starts to drop give it a good run 2300/3000 constant for 15/20 mins return to normal driving then re check your mpg it should improve if the ecu has regened the dpf,use good fuel not supermarket Bp ultimate and the like use catalysts which allow your dpf to burn soot at half the normal operating temperature, yes they cost more but they maintain a healthy circuit saving you money in the long run,If not using Lexus for your oil service buy your own oil something good like mobil 1 etc and ask a local garage to change it while you watch it going in!! and every now and then make it perform, give it a bit of pedal..hope this helps!
  3. Thanks Shahpor your exactly right regarding other cars as they all have inherinent issues after all they are just machines! since leaving the lexus brand some 8 years ago every car I've owned since (2x audi 2xnissan) all had major failures,Lexus gives you slightly more piece of mind and if you understand the car your buying you can respond in time to any change you may notice in performance etc,,in all honesty wish I'd kept my 2001 200sport longer than I did as in 5 years ownership it had tyres oil and fuel with no repairs/warranty claims at all, fantastic cars if you look after them, look forward to keeping this model at least 2 years, maybe 4 as the audio system is really something else to boot, gives me reason to leave for work a bit earlier and watching dvds before the grind!!
  4. Hi everyone, new to the forum but not to the marque, now owning my 4th Lexus is,3 previous is200 sports (1 i would rather not talk about) and now the F-sport 220d manual, with the luxurious 6 speed box(clunky but so was every one I've owned, love em or hate em!!) Already (before I purchased) had some great advice regarding the dreaded diesel but after a bit delegation with my head and the full lexus history bought the unloved model from a local mitsubishi dealer but only after some expensive surgery,,as said was unloved after suffering the dpf failure and was basicaly sat unused for some 10 months and in need of new brakes totally, new rear fuel filter, alloy refurb,4xtyres,key fob, paint job on the front(stone chips down to metal) new battery, new dpf,egr and manifold clean(ouch!!) and full service including trans and diff oil all at the dealers expense costing a touch over 2.5k to get it on the road I have to say i'm chuffed with it,Drives like a dream returning 38-45mpg.Looks stunning and gets the bm/merc heads turning with the pearl paintwork,
  5. DPF's are the only downfall to any diesel car regardless of marque but the bigger problem is the general public dont know how to use/treat said item as dealers wont tell you your super economical money saving oil burner needs a good thrash every now and then,or to use good fuel or additives once in a while. The is220d is a superb machine, streets ahead of bmw or merc for the price,As your friend will be hitting some good miles for me its a winner!..just to add if its a manual car even round town you can work the dpf simply by keeping the revs higher by not going into 4th etc!
  6. Recieved mine today only owned the car for 5 weeks nice to see fluency between lexus and the dvla for a change.
