  1. Yes Ado its dumping boost for no reason hence the poor response but as already said as its actually working the fault is why is it being told to do this possibly a dirty boost sensor (behind the egr) split hose bad connection its just a process of elimination,
  2. Thats exactly what lives in the exhaust casing just its factory pressed together and when knackered its doomed unless you can get it apart as you can buy the vane set up online,,as said due to the assembly I cant picture it but I assure its this type and very well made,,this one was stuck hence the stripdown,,works bloody lovely now so might stick it on anyway and rebuild mine..part no.. 17201-26012/ 11/ 10 VB15
  3. Exactly as above how does he know! there can be many issues that can be blamed on the dpf its an easy out for the mis informed could be something simple like a blocked egr (they all block at some point) easy to clean without the mech sucking air thro his teeth at least the lexus techs had the forsight to put it where it is!! How do you drive it,,fuel, oil etc all play a part..check out this site it will tell you how it all works and fails..In my opinion get a second opinion! http://www.oilem.com/category/dpf-cleaning-and-maintenance/ By the way what are the issues your having??
  4. Yup here ya go..before during and after rebuild..sad thing is I dont need it now!!
  5. Just for info Shahpor the car defo has a variable vane turbo I presently have one sitting in my kitchen having been rebuilt yesterday,,the large actuator operates the vanes the one sitting at 45 degrees is the wastegate.
  6. Recently I have being having issues with occasional plumes of exhaust smoke, sometimes dense sometimes just puffs but really annoying.went down the usual route of dpf egr etc carrying out the egr removal/clean followed by the 30 mile high rev run which did to an extent cure the problem until a few days later the smoke returned annoyinly...I was actually gonna trade the car but a fellow workmate asked if I had checked the turbo wastegate actuator (I hadnt) so next day when the car was cold I manually opened and closed the wastegate actuator to its extremes, this is really simple to do and afterwards from cold no smoke...none!! On researching afterwards it seems that being mechanical on driving the wastegate performs only as instructed so basically on round the town trips it dont move alot so overtime it may stick seems mine did...4 days on and testing it still no smoke..hope this helps as it had my head battered!!
  7. On buying a used 220d with previous dpf issues I knew I may be challenged at some point and last week I was..On reversing onto my drive the car emitted a huge (massive) white smelly cloud which literally filled the street. I just parked switched off and left it,,following day the car seemed fine until about 20mins into a drive the smoke re-appeared,there were no engine lights etc no running problems etc but given the cloud and the fact my average journey is less than 5 miles I give it a little grief down the motoway not a massive trip about 8 miles but left in 4th gear the entire time..since buying the car I have done my own servicing using mobil 1 oil plus quality air/oil filters etc I will say lazily i didnt clean my egr (I scheduled for Feb 17) to my regret having limped home last month because of it!! So before all of this unfolded I was averaging 36mpg...not brill but not bad so whipped of the egr and thoroughly cleaned (tbf not that bad given its recent clean) again changed the oil/air filter but (on advice) added to 40ltrs of fuel Archoil ar6400d max pro...now i am a sceptic but have to say what a huge difference in less than 160miles//tickover is perfect,,acceleration is much smoother.turbo seems more positive overall it seems to have revatilsed everything it says it should and as said as a sceptic I have to admit defeat given that my mpg has jumped into the 40's,smoke has vanished,,coolant is still pink, oil is spot on...so in short for me it worked..if your 220d is feeling a bit lazy I urge you to try it I for sure will certainly use it again..Hope this helps.

  8. As above totally normal until the engine is up to temp,It will still rev slightly higher when the cooler kicks in but nothing to stress about.
  9. Its about the whole system..the claims are that the catalysts addd to the fuel reduce the 'Burn off' temperature of soot making the system (dpf egr) more efficient and effectivley self cleaning..who can say for sure??
  10. Today on the way to work my 220d jumped into limp mode,,the odb reader came back with air flow on Egr.whipped the egr off and indeed it was massivly clogged (now ok running sweet again) not unusual you might say but given since its last flush out I've only used a premium fuel which states on Tv it supposedly magically prevents this so I feel a bit ripped off with the claims..I'm no stranger to dpf egr problems with other marques so now I drive on the duals with a bit gusto in lower gears to aid the burn but seems all I have been doing is burning cash not Gunk!...Anyone else had similar experiences??
  11. Ive owned my 220d f sport for 15 months now and the only real issue I had was some kid taking the nearside wing and bumper off!! I mostly use bp ultimate but do fill up time to time with standard fuel,,On purchase the dealer had done a lot of work as sad to say the previous owner didnt give it much attention so it needed a big service which included full new brakes,Dpf and egr clean etc but on getting the car I switched oil to mobil 1 and upgraded the brakes to brembo and doing the slide pins, since then the car does little mileage with only the odd burst of speed returning around 35/39 mpg..Dont be put off with it being the dreaded 220 they are good cars just keep on top of the servicing and when possible give it some right foot!!
  12. Having bought the most despised lexus model ever shock horror last year I thought I would give an honest appraisal as to why it is so bad....hmmm really!! So given the horror stories and inherint 2nd gen IS problems (not just the diesel) after purchase I changed the diff/gear oil (68k) and the eng oil to mobil 1,cleaned the egr although the dealer said it had been done just for peace of mind, new air filter (fuel filter had been changed previously) and replaced the brake slider pins, front dics/pads to brembo.and sorted the usual rattles etc(easydone).I only use BP ultimate derv. Now having only covered only 7k in a year(DPF failure territory) it still pulls like a train,is as smooth as you would like, possibly (defo) the most comfortable car I've ever owned (4th lexus) Handling is superb if you love the back end twitch oh yes..sound system which cant be described unless you experience it (DVD is outstanding) coupled with possibly every conceivable gadget available in 2010 with paint and styling to match what is there to hate..I love it..now yes there are some out there that have failed but having been involved in car manufacture for 30 years now (my last 4 cars from the company I work for had dpf failures between 4/6k..SHOCKING!!) I have to take my hats of to Lexus...Brilliant car and wouldnt hesitate to recommend one..take care of it and it will serve you well.
  13. I'm sure it states in the handbook how to customise/alter the locking system.
  14. Do you use supermarket fuel..if so bad idea checkthis linkfor some usefull info regarding dpf egr etc http://www.oilem.com/turbo-cleaning-and-turbo-cleaners/?gclid=CjwKEAjwsr-6BRCLvrj785rbhTsSJADjUxakXLFC_4-8bbyfGvSAWpqyWxRDjq_NMB-N2ead8tpQBRoCyrnw_wcB

  16. Hi my 220 also rattled and cracked when I first bought it, all I did was remove the air vents and just stuffed all the gaps with foam that killed the vibrations as for the creaking i just sprayed 3 in one oil in all the gaps where the different dash components meet together and have to say its totally cured!!
  17. Hi Steve..Ive just done this job myself and replaced the pins total cost £30 from an ebay seller..I'm local to you Sunderland (seaburn) I would gladly take a look at your brakes at no cost whatsoever dont pay £45 per hour as they will take 2 hours of your money!! even if you need new pins and rubbers I will fit them for free its really not a big job..
  18. I'm a hands on type fella that hates immoral money stealing from the good and proper folk..I'm no mechanic (this might sound all wrong) but I have been building cars now for 28years and come from an engineering upbringing so like to take a step back look at the issue and find a solution..maybe better than the original to boot..
  19. Thanks madashatter already saw the ebay extortionate listing instead I went to a local steel merchant and bought a length of stainless wire of the same gauge and basically copied the spring (4 times) took about an hour but only cost £2..Thanks also to Lina.s only needed the springs as the pads only done 3k but the wires were past it,,another job done!!
  20. much appreciated,Thank you.
  21. Thats the problem I'm having internet wont tell me grrr!!
  22. Thanks for the quick reply Farqui dont suppose you know who supplies with the clips by any chance.
  23. After a recent puncture whilst the wheel was off I noticed the rear pad retainer clips were in a bad state,,the pads were fitted 7 months ago at the dealers on purchasing the car but the clips obviously wern't..do they come with the pads or are they a seperate consumable just not having much luck finding them even with the part no from the workshop manual..Help appreciated!!
