  1. Hi all

Recently i discovered that my left hand side headlight will randomly turn off after a few minutes of it turning on however I can turn them back on by switching off and on again..

Had a look outside and can see the bulbs are emitting two different tones of light. Not sure whether the owner replaced one with a different brand or just replaced one and left the other in..but it seems like the left one is dying?

Anyway - I've never had a car with HID lights before. So basically what kind of bulbs can I get for the car? Do they have to be OEM? Are the lights on the IS250 easy to replace? Looks a bit fiddly to me. Can anyone link any good bulbs they've found and use? Or should I stick to Lexus ones and get them from a dealer?

    Thanks

Not really with Europe, mostly with UK. E.g. in UK 1.6 liter coupe is sports car - how is that? Obviously, Spain, Italy has a lot of small cars as well, may be France a bit, but in rest of Europe doesn't have this "compressed mind" about the cars...

Japan definitely does! You need to pay some sort of extra tax to drive a bigger car in some cities...

No my first car was a bmw 520, just be individual dont worry about what people think. They are bland in a word, but they are beautifully put together.

Pretty fast but wont break any records, comfy quiet and well specked from the off. When put againt audi bmw and merc. Where the option list is silly.

I get lots of compliments on my car, which makes me happy. But its the car i wanted so i dont really care what people say. When i change mine it will be for another

lexus. Im in a different age group to you, so i take my hat off to you, in not been a sheep so enjoy your motor mate. You will get more smiles per gallon.

I've got loads of compliments on the car already - and I've only had it for two weeks! I wanted something that will last. A car that had all the tech of a modern day car, wasn't slow, was reliable all of which was in the Lexus. I definitely considered the A4s, 325i's and C classes but when compared directly to each other - the Lexus has so much more positive points going for it

Careful Kris or it'll end up looking like a taxi.

But congratulations on being different and going for a Lexus.

I may just go for a black roof - which blends into the sun roof. I'm not really a fan of how it contrasts against the cars paint. You're right, the bonnet looks a tad silly - that's gone off me but I'm not sure what sort of alloys would go well with the car. The stock ones are fairly bland and not in great condition at the moment.

  5. Thinking of having this done to my gear. Its in a very light blue colour. I've purchased the two spoilers too from eBay and now I'm deciding whether to do the wrap like the car in the picture below. I'll also probably black out that rear windshield with 5% tint as it doesn't look very nice leaving it clear. What do you all think? Should the black stop just after the boot spoiler? Or go further down like in the photo?

    check the fuel cap first.

I did undo it and redid it before I left the car parked for around an hour or so and came back to check. It went away but two days later has returned.. I ordered an Obd2 reader to see what it is if it sticks around this time. Car's performance seems fine so I think possible faulty sensor or maybe its something to do with the heat? Has been around 32-33 degrees in London the last few days

  7. So I parked under a tree last night and didn't notice the bits of tree sap (i think) on my windscreen. They were patches of this white clear substance, unknowing they were there I turned my wipers on and it basically smudged it all over the windscreen -_- this has now dried off and will not come off with water/soapy water/warm water. I hear alcohol is okay? will it be fine on the paint?

    • Engine is unreliable when driving in city, majority of the issues nonexistent in predominately motorway driving. As well car being 63k miles is still eligible for extended warranty (unless I am missing something?).
    • Sluggish performance we need to put in certain perspective, yes it is sluggish compared to IS250, not so much with BMW 320d or MB C200/220cdi, and not at all compared to 1.2 focus or 1.0 fiesta.
    • He would have rid of the car by 2019/2020. Lifespan ~ 2 years max. It is generally only for work in Leicester for next 1,5 until he finishes his practice there.

P.S.  - you probably already realised I am playing "devils advocate" here. I would like to concentrate on his journey - twice a week all motorway journey for 120miles one way.

I would rather the 320d tbh, I've read so many bad experiences of the months I was searching for my next car from previous owners of the IS220. For the money it seems like a good deal though, but factor in 2 years warranty will be £800 extra from Lexus. What about an Audi A4?

No these are designed mainly for US which is like 80% of the market. There are differences to meet certain local laws e.g. EU emissions etc. But definitely, not removing safety message .. that would be simply not cost effective to remove the feature which is virtually harmless.

As for mobile paint repairs - if it is little scratch which needs touch up then go for it. Never use them for dents - they simply fill the dents with filler and paints over the top - which is not how it should be done. As well if scratch is larger or more visible then you need to pain whole part + blend in which is rather difficult on metallic car as as well something mobile repairs don't do.

Yeah, the scuff on the bumper should be okay to do for them but the lower deeper scuff I'm not so sure as thats actually into the bumper itself. Its tiny and has its so low down its not noticeable. What annoys me though is that there is one brown spot on the hood of the car - not well shown on the picture which has actually "sunk" into the paint if you will. It must be some sort of chemical from a carpark or something that dripped on it but its as if its part of the paint now.

    Congrats! Beautiful car.

As for the warning I believe that is part of US legislation aka "they didn't put notice so I will crash the car and claim $10 million for that". Remember the story with cat and microwave, where american lady put the car in microwave to dry it's fur and then took the manufacturer to the court and won? So now you have the warning on microwave manual not to put the animals inside in US.

    Thanks!

Wow what a moron! I thought maybe the software would be different from the US version but guess not

Might be worth letting us know whereabouts you're located, someone may be able to recommend a paintshop/auto refinisher in your area.

In London! Will update my profile with all the info soon - I was thinking of this company called Revive? They do mobile repairs, bring out a van with a tent and have equipment to match paint colour etc all inside and can do it outside my house which will be great

    Ha, you're not wrong!

Looks sweet, that front bumper scuff should cost too much to sort out. Dealer or Private sale? Care to share how much?

The light scuff on the upper bumper yes - but bellow there is another one which is slightly more serious. Its actually into the material of the bumper itself so I'm not sure how much that'll be to repair. And less than 5.5K! The owner was private, super nice guy and did me a great deal.

    Hi Kris

Congrats on your purchase, they're a heck of a lot of car for the money. I've got the same model/year as you and it's the best car I've ever owned.

If you're referring to the SatNav screen message telling you to "Drive Safely, obey traffic rules" etc, then AFAIK this can't be turned off. It's a symptom of the nanny state we live in.

Well I suppose it couldn't be an all round perfect car could it!

  14. Hi all -

Some of you may have seen me posting recently since I have been in search of my second car and have found it! Just bought myself a IS250 2007 SE-L with everything on it including a sunroof which was hard to find in itself without it having over 130K miles. Only has a few paint scuffs which I've been quoted around £150 to repair aside from that it looks in perfect condition.

Could not however get that annoying warning message to go away on start up / reverse on the sat nav - anyone know how?

I got a 2009 (58 plate) SE I with 81k miles and full service history (6 Lexus stamps) for 5k a month ago. When I was looking on auto trader etc I noticed you would see the same cars week after week so they're obviously not flying off the shelves so to speak. With this in mind I'm sure there are deals to be had. Good luck, they're a great car and good value as well

That's the SE-L? With all the toys? MM pack? Including a sun roof?

  16. Hi all

I've been scouring the web for atleast 2 months now and have still not managed to grasp the general market value of these cars. They seem to be so inconsistent that I am often telling myself that I could get a better deal for my money. I'm only 20 therefore I don't have a massive fortune to spend. I've found several however came across one that caught my eye and wanted to know general thoughts -

2007 IS 250 SE-L, All options including a Sun roof.

The price was listed for 7000 but i negotiated it down to 5500..is this a good deal?

Please let me know your thoughts and experiences!
