Wing Mirros - Auto Tilt feature
Thus guide will show you how to remove and replace the parts of the mirror
Great little guide.
This picture explains my problem. The mirror part dangling below there came loose on mine WITH the white plastic part STILL attached to it. Your guide clearly states to remove that red screw assembly to remove the white plastic except mine just came clean off so I have no idea how the hell that happened. Regardless, one of the white prongs on the back of that white plastic bit snapped off this morning (probably because of the cold). So I'm buying a used mirror and going to replace the white plastic as all other parts seem to work fine on mine.
Cheers for those pics and the guide, very helpful.

Is the housing ok on it.
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalkyeah housing is okay, just a bit scuffed but no serious damage. it folds okay, heating works and everything

It sounds like the whole unit will need replacing. You'd have to go to Lexus for one. It's about £400-500. What colour is it?
Sent from my iPhone using TapatalkTheres no way I'm spending 500 quid on a new mirror, its the light blue colour. I think I'll buy a cheap salvage mirror and then take out the parts.

Is it just the mirror, or whole unit?
Sent from my iPhone using TapatalkIts essentially the actual mirror. Its popped out and will not go back in. Behind the mirror on the inside - theres a white piece of plastic that controls all the tilting functions etc and a prong on that is broken which means that the mirror wont stay in place nor will it tilt
-
Last night a car driving on the wrong side of the road smashed into my side mirror and caused the mirror to pop out. I can only assume it was a police chase or a serious emergency but they didn't stop. The mirror housing seems to be okay and the folding function works however one of the white screws that controls the tilt of the mirror has snapped off.
Any ideas where I can get a replacement or whether I should go to Lexus? Would they charge me for the entire wing mirror?
My alternative would be to buy a used on eBay and then try to replace the part thats actually broken and stick it in my mirror except I'm not sure how that'll work out since I have the SE-L which has auto dimming, auto dipping on reverse etc.
thanks

Bit of a silly thing to say.
Are you wanting Skoda prices for Audi diagnostics as well? The higher costs pays for wages (which incidentally are higher at Lexus than Toyota), the fancy showrooms and many more things.
I wouldn't say its a warranty claim unless there is a problem with it. In other words, if the shocks are leaking, or there is a defect.
Lots of cars have suspension squeaks over bumps particularly cars with higher mileage. My previous RX had the rear suspension squeak over large bumps, the Audi A7 suffers from suspension noise, so does the Lexus NX to an extent.
Additionally, suspension is one of those things where its very easy to say wear and tear
Well its been having this squeak probably since 75K and its currently at 80K. Seems to have got worse over time as well. Having it checked over by the MOT centre again tomorrow to see if they missed anything. Do not fancy paying £160 to be told I need to fork out 500 more to fix it..

Hey guys,
Been having squeaking noises coming from the rear for a while now every time I drive over rough terrain. Seems to have gotten much worse now that I can hear it even when the windows are rolled up. I've decided to book it into Lexus Battersea to have it checked and possibly claim under warranty. The only problem is that the lady (not a mechanic) suggested it was the rear shock absorbers which wouldn't be covered under warranty? I've just had an MOT done yesterday and no advisories on any absorbers what so ever. Furthermore, she told me that their labour charge is £160/hr!
Surely if it is an item thats covered under the extended warranty - I shouldn't be charged the £160 diagnostic fee? Sounds a bit extortionate to me - anyone have any similar experiences or advice?
Cheers

The nearest is about 1 hour away from me. I already drove the car 2 hours on Friday when I picked it up from Edgware which I hope hasn't caused any damage.

Okay so I took some photos, fairly dark but the tank looks empty to me.. I cant really compare with anything else since I've never looked at it when full - can anyone check the photos and confirm?
Also should mention that when the coolant cap is off I see nothing there - it only starts bubbling up when the engine starts running.

Is there coolant in the expansion tank?
The reservoir behind/under the intake?

Tried everything you guys suggested - nothing work. Left it running for around 20 minutes or so with the cap off and could see loads of air bubbles escaping but still carried on making the noise after around 25 minutes or so. Its going back to Lexus on Monday. Will not be going to Edgware again as this isn't the first thing they cocked up for me

Water pump changed you say? Then I would put money on the 'sloshing' noise you can hear is air pockets moving around in the coolant system, this is not normally a problem unless somehow any coolant temperature sensors end up being in an 'air pocket' in which case the sensors will not detect the true temperature of the coolant and may cause some other errors to be flagged up.
"They topped it up with coolant too so low coolant doesnt seem like it would be the cause."
Have you checked the coolant level now?
One thing I do suggest is that you keep a careful eye on the coolant level in the near future as any air pockets when flushed around to the expansion tank will be replaced by coolant and therefore the level will drop. You are not loosing coolant it is just totally filling the coolant system.

Well, anyway to get rid of this problem then? Or is this something that they would need to sort out?

Just got the car back and didn't notice until I was home and playing about with the engine. Keep hearing this noise of water slushing about whenever I rev the car or when its starting up. I strongly suspect its the coolant but why can I hear it now? The car has just been serviced and also had the waterpump replaced as the previous one was leaking. They topped it up with coolant too so low coolant doesnt seem like it would be the cause.
Any ideas of what may be causing it and any quick remedies? Definitely do not fancy driving all the way back to Lexus Edgware..

I'm paying 2500 a year :')
Dont complain

Hmmm Lexus Battersea quoted £78 for front pads :/ What are your thoughts? Quite expensive imo

Anyone got any good recommendations for brake pads and/or discs?
Don't mind going aftermarket if you think you've had a better experience with them!
Links to parts would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!"

If the last service was done by Lexus, you could give the dealer a ring a see if they could tell you what was done?
If not, what I suggest is get it into the dealer for the recall, and ask then to have a look at the plugs while the manifold is off. They should be able to tell the difference between old and newish ones. Then ask them to change them if they haven't been done so already. If they keep the plugs in stock, this shouldn't be a problem.
As for the service, it is up to you. Does you car have a full Lexus history? If it does, do you want to maintain it? Do you have a good independent that you trust to do the work? The cost of replacement pads actually isn't that unreasonable considering it is the main dealer, but it would still be cheaper to get them changed elsewhere. In fact, with basic tools, it is quite straightforward to change them yourself.

Cheers guys, will probably go for the Lexus service as it has got full dealership history. As for the pads, I'll probably buy elsewhere and get a local garage to do them if they do need changing.
Good idea for the spark plugs Sha - will definitely try.

Hello,
You are by no means alone with the skipping that occurs when cold. See here:
As mentioned, it happens on mine too, and apart from being annoying, does no harm and doesn't indicate a fault.
Dealer servicing details are on this page:
https://www.lexus.co.uk/owners/servicing-and-maintenance/#ServicingYourLexus
As you can see, a full service would cost you £445.
Although, since your car is over 5 years old, you can use the Essential Service instead. That works out to £329. Assuming you are referring to front brake pads, then it is £145. Although if it is only squealing you are getting, they might not need changing, just some copper grease applied to the shim behind the pad.
As for the recall, did you have the spark plugs changed at the last service? If not, then definitely get them done at the same time as the recall since they would only charge you for the plugs themselves.
Good to hear!
As for the spark plugs - I'm actually not sure. I bought the car when it was at 70K I believe, or approaching it. In the log book it does show that it was serviced around 62K but I have no idea what was actually done as no receipts were kept. It was done at Lexus however so I'm utterly clueless at the moment. Would you recommend that major service at £329? Considering most independents are offering between 210-250. Also assuming that the pads do need changing - that will cost another £145 from Lexus, it starts mounting up quite quickly
What do you recommend?

Just looking for some pointers here -
It seems like since its got colder, everytime I start the car and turn the wheel full lock - for example to reverse out of somewhere - there is this unusual knocking/clicking noise. This noise however goes away after driving a bit or the car has warmed up..what is it? I have owned the car since summer so not usually sure what the cold weather can do to it.
I'm also way past the due date for the next servicing. Its at 73K miles now (last serviced at 60k) and 10 years old - what sort of costs would I be looking for a full service at a dealership assuming nothing needs replacing? What are the costs for replacing the pads on it as I've also started getting metallic squealing lately when braking
--I should also mention that it is due for the recalls. Haven't done either of them yet, can I use this as a bargaining tool as they'll have to take the engine apart anyway?
Cheers!

Here are a couple of videos that will offer some enlightenment
The second one shows you how to get at the offside bulb right at the end of the video.
Cheers mate.
Ordered the bulbs from amazon. When I disconnect the Battery, Can I disconnect one lead? Or do I need to remove both leads?
-
Yeah think I'll go for those ones.. Why are Xenons so much more expensive though? I mean I was paying like £10 for new bulbs on my old car with halogens. I get that its white, but is that the only reason? Are there any other advantages? Does it last longer?

Don't forget that when you go brighter .. you start blinding other drivers. But K (kelvin) rating doesn't make your lights brighter ( doesn't improve visibility), K rating means colour - from warm 1000K to very cold (blue) 10000k+. Generally, light with rating between 3000k and ~5000k are considered neutral or white - which is equally considered best quality. Blue lights for me is not a way to go - just looks fake. For me yellow = vintage, white = quality and blue = fake.
I guess the fashion for blue lights started with LEDs, because early LEDs were poor quality (blue) and at some point when they started appearing on expensive cars ~2006 (maybe earlier), people with older cars tried pretending their cars are more modern by putting very cold 8300-15000k xenons, which does nothing else but blinds other drivers. Later when LEDs improved they became white as they should be and "blue lights" became not only "fake", but as well outdated "poor fashion".
Definitely not going for the blue look. I've seen many cars with them and just looks completely ridiculous for me. Also a lot of chavs seems to have them on their crappy cars. The Lexus deserves better :D

Can you link the 5000K bulbs you have?
