  1. I'm about to book my 40k service in for Is200 Sport and have asked for some quotes. Cheapest for me is £255 in Twickenham and thats bringing my own oil otherwise it would be a further £55 for them to provide. What is included, have no idea. Oxford wanted to charge me nearer £400.
  2. I've recommended before on other postings but use www.moneysupermarket.com. Once you've entered your details, it will go round all of the companies recommended here and come up with the best one for your circumstances. What one company might be good for one person might be no good for another cos of who they want to insure. But doing it this way covers them all and picks the best. I ended up with More Than and cut my premium for 25% and got better cover than last year. They also gave me full no claims discount on what was determined as 4 years NCB with my previous insurer. I used to phone/web 50 or so companies each year but just use this site now.
  3. Don't know really but I also didn't ask. After leaving the show, I did think about a couple of 'usual' chips that I have in my bonnet so I might ask the question when I book it in and get everything done.
  4. Can't give an opinion on Chipsaway just yet as not booked in but I have about a 10" scratch down my back door and also a large scuff on the underneath of my front bumper. Lexus dealer quoted over £600 to fix. Went to a small car show in High Wycombe at the weekend in which the Wycombe franchise of Chipsaway were in attendance and they said they'd fix both of the problems for £170 + vat - a third of the price of the dealer! Will be booking very shortly and they assure me I won't see anything after the jobs done which will put a :D back on my face!
  5. I earn over £50k but at the end of the day, you live to your means. My best mate is on £25k and he seems just as broke as I am (I'm another person with 2 kids, mortgage, wife etc). Obviously I'd much prefer to be on £50k than £25k but if I earned £70k, I'd still have the same overdraft probably. Having more money just makes life a bit easier as although money can't buy anything, it certainly helps in this world!!
  6. I'm starting to question my hearing now cos £310 inc vat is much better considering its the same place and service. She was specific that mine was being classed as a 40k / 3 YEAR service. I agree with the oil saving, Twickenham said it would save me £55 and thanks to Colin's post, I know I can buy much cheaper. Nick: Mines not booked in yet so would be nice to hear the outcome of your visit.
  7. Sounds like the general opinion is applying the grease will do the trick but last year, I had what I considered as 'clunking' when braking especially when turning the wheel at slow speeds and coming to a halt. Dealer spent 6 months trying to fix. After replacing steering rack, brakes (whole assembly), bushes, suspension etc etc, it eventually turned out to be the engine mounting brackets. Fortunately, all the work was done under warranty.
  8. I used to search multiple websites and obtain about 50 quotes before renewing. Now, I just go to www.moneysupermarket.co.uk, click on Insurance and then click on Motor Insurance. Saves loads of time and so far, I'm not recommended it to anyone who hasn't saved a wad of cash. And it covers most of the companies that will get recommended.... Would be interesting to know if it works for you!
  9. Haven't called round all my local dealers but received a 'courtesty' call from Lexus Oxford yesterday saying that my car should be having its 40k service shortly, shall they book it in. I'm glad I asked how much first as they quoted £396 + vat (£465)!!! Emailed Twickenham and they have quoted £315 inc vat, a difference of £150 or 32%. Mad considering they are only 60 miles apart, hardly one end of the country to the other! Without Twickenham providing the oil, its £255 for the service but I don't know how much oil I need, what oil it is and how much it costs! No wonder Oxford have to ring you up to get you to book your car in, I'm hardly going to be calling them!
  10. Quite a mixed reaction but I have to say I think it looks great. But as with all these 'concept' cars, I've read that this won't make it too production anyway. Why is it that the best looking cars (whatever brand) never make it too production, they then go and bring out more dreary versions!!
  11. Spot on Stu! Agreed that we may not always want the police around but I have a lot of respect for them and they are up against some awful people in this world! They need all the help they can get! But I guess there's no helping some people.
  12. A little arrogant I think cos one day, it might be you or your family that the emergency services are trying to get too to help in which you'd be appreciative someone didn't hold them up cos of some wheels!!
  13. I believe that the EU are trying to force rule changes again so that there is no 'opt out' option. So much for having a run of our own lives. First they moan that no one gets off their **** to work, then they stop you doing too much!! Just cos policitians don't like working more than 20 hours a week for more than half the year!
