Got our car on 2nd February and the best I've had so far is 30.7mpg - and that's driving like Miss flaming Daisy! Even when the battery is showing 7/8 bars (and on a few occasions 8/8) I only have to breathe on the accelerator and the ICE fires up screaming "Feed me". I'm loving the comfort and luxury and the high seating position and I know it's a big engine and a heavy car but I was hoping for more from the hybrid. I sort of wish I'd gone for straight petrol and had it converted to LPG again instead.

Rain-x
sorcerer replied to is200 Newbie's topic in Lexus IS 250 / Lexus IS 250C Club / Lexus IS 220D & IS 200D Club
Glyn's talking about a different product to Rain-X but to be honest, I don't really know as I've never taken much notice of time passing. I just reapply the Rain-X when it becomes obvious that it's not working as well as it should. -

I don't know of any 2-in-1 products that are as good as each individual product. Give the proper Rain-X a try and you'll see a big difference. For glass cleaning I use Dodo Juice Clearly Menthol. Just used it this very morning because my screen was full of bug squashes and rain is due later so wanted it clean before then. Couple of squirts, a wipe, and all clear - brilliant stuff. And that's on a windscreen that's not been treated with Rain-X yet (ran out and forgot to get more). -

Rough month.

Maybe not, but don't forget that when Lexus quote for a cambelt change the cambelt is all you'd get - no idlers/tensioners/pulleys replaced, no water pump replaced and no new coolant for that £300, when to do the job properly all those parts should be changed. Nothing wrong if you like to collect stamps but you're delusional if you think it adds or keeps any value to the car. It may be of value if it's a show car or an enthusiasts car but for your ordinary, average, daily driver car, stamps in a book mean nothing once the car reaches a certain age. Of course, any garage can stamp the service record when you have a service done if that's your thing, it doesn't have to be a Lexus main dealer. -

A rough month indeed and one that I don't envy you, and one that I would not like myself. However, with the greatest of respect, it didn't really need to be quite so rough. Your car is 11 years old, so why would you even consider taking it to a Lexus main dealer unless the problem was one that only Lexus could rectify, say, a hybrid system fault for example? Most cars have cambelts and water pumps and replacing them are 'bread and butter' jobs for any mechanic at any garage. I had cambelt, idlers/tensioners/pulleys replaced, water pump replaced and 10 litres of new Toyota Super Long Life Pink coolant for £460 all in on my RX300. Somebody, somewhere, should have been able to give you a personal recommendation for a garage (as your mate did later) or if not, give your local trading standards a call to see who they recommend. There just is no need (and in my humble opinion, no sense) to take a car of that age to a main dealer and pay their over-inflated prices unless, as I said earlier, it is something that only they could do. Plus, keeping money in the local economy gives you a warm fuzzy feeling knowing that your money is being put to good use rather than just buying yet another bottle of bubbly for some corporate fat-cat. -
Lexus LS430 Build Thread... Mark two...!!

Dodo Juice Supernatural Leather Cleaner and Supernatural Leather Sealant is what I use on my seats, so I'm sure it'll also do a superb job on the steering wheel too. -
New RX450H owner

That's terrible! Then again, when I thought that the Hill Start Assist wasn't working on mine I called in to Lexus Carlisle and the guy I spoke to didn't know how to operate it to check it, which is equally abysmal from sales staff. They should know all about every bit of equipment on every Lexus car they sell if they are Lexus main dealers. -
LS430 transmission failure - total fluid loss
sorcerer replied to polymoog's topic in Engine & Transmission
I can't see any mention of the fluid overheating, just that it leaked out. -
Hello and welcome to the club Any questions you have will probably be best answered in the dedicated RX forum rather than this one. You'll find lots of helpful and friendly folks in there and, of course, we all like to see photos of our cars so please post a few of your new beast when you can. Cheers, John

You're either driving with your foot constantly on the brake pedal as well as the accelerator, or the brakes are not releasing properly, or you're fitting rubbish discs/pads.

I didn't know that Peter, thanks.

It must monitor the pressures so that it knows when to give a warning, so a case of "you say potato I say potato" methinks

Sat Nav
sorcerer replied to acer54's topic in RX 300 / RX 350h / RX 400h / RX 200t / RX 450h+ / RX 500h Club
Each to their own and all that, but I just cannot understand why folks spend good money on getting a disc for a clunky, old, outdated system that takes ages to enter a destination into, you can't add in your own POIs or speed camera warnings and, at best, is a nightmare to use. I could have my TomTom installed, programmed and ready to move off in less than a quarter of the time it took to input my destination on the inbuilt satnav in our old RX300. Great as a rolling screensaver, but as a satnav it was about as much use as a chocolate fireguard. To be honest, I still don't use the inbuilt satnav even now in our 63-plate RX450h. It still takes much longer to enter a destination and get going than the TomTom does, but now it's down to the mouse input that has to be used left-handed. -
Does this mean the batteries discharge during a traffic stop and Neutral is selected? Yes, it does. It depends on how long you're in neutral for and how much electrical load is on the system. In winter you may have headlamps on, heated seats, cabin heater etc., in summer the aircon and other stuff. Bottom line - just get used to keeping it in D with your foot on the brake or for longer periods, select P. Both D and P will cause the engine to fire up to provide charge to the traction battery if it gets too low, but in neutral it won't - it will just continue to discharge and may get so low that it can't restart the engine.

If this site is like many other forums and sites in general, the 'owner' of the site/forum/board/etc doesn't provide the ads and has no control over them. They are provided by third-party 'advert suppliers' or media companies. Having said that, there are sophisticated algorithms at work to make sure that the ads are more relevant to each of us. Have you never noticed that you may look for a cordless drill on eBay for example, then the next time you look at Autotrader or something, lo and behold, adverts appear for cordless drills at Screwfix?

I used a brush and was really happy with the results.

Whenever I buy a secondhand car I have always changed all fluids because you just never know. I don't know if it really does any good but I certainly do know that It does no harm and I know that it starts my ownership with nice clean stuff everywhere. The only reason I haven't done it with this one is that it's so new and only had 33k miles on it when we bought it at the beginning of February.
