  1. There may be something available via gold membership Julian but I'm not a gold member - this is a Tyre Shopper own deal https://www.tyre-shopper.co.uk/deals
  2. Hmm, not sure, but this is from Avon's website: Avon Tyres has added an all-new SUV tyre to their high performance range, the Avon ZX7. Designed for medium and large SUV fitments, the ZX7 – Avon’s first ultra-high performance SUV tyre – offers outstanding grip (‘A’ grade wet grip) and handling. Avon’s ZX7 has been developed with a unique asymmetric tread pattern, which is specifically designed to cope with the weight of large SUVs More info here:
  3. Tyre Shopper discount codes are here: http://www.tyre-shopper.co.uk/deals Regarding your question "34psi or higher for maximising tyre life gentlemen?" - here's the text I posted in a different topic somewhere on these forums: It doesn't matter what you want to run your tyres at or what some guy in a newspaper says, it's what the manufacturer says. I once worked with a guy who was involved in an accident and on investigation his tyres were found to have incorrect pressures. I (still) can't remember if his insurance company paid out a reduced sum or rejected the claim completely but they certainly did one or the other, as they deemed him to be partly to blame for the accident due to not running his tyres at the recommended pressures. Does anyone really want to risk that for the sake of a few more MPG or a smoother ride or whatever? So, it could be both dangerous and expensive to run your tyres at a pressure other than what the car manufacturer states in the owner's manual and/or cabin plate/label.
  4. Avons are very good - here's the text from a previous posting I made in these forums back in November: I've just put 4 Avon ZX7s (235/55 R18 100V) on my RX300 and ordered them from http://www.tyreshopper.co.uk for £386 then used a Tyreshopper discount code to get 5% off, making it £366 and also got 3.15% cashback by going through http://www.topcashback.co.uk making the final, fully-fitted price £354. They were fitted at a local branch of National Tyres who, if I had bought the tyres directly from them, would have charged £421. I'm VERY impressed with the tyres. They're 'A' rated for wet conditions and they certainly deserve it as the car is so sure-footed now, in both wet and dry conditions - I can highly recommend them.

  6. Here's a three-minute clip from my Nextbase 402G (it's set to record in 3-minute chunks). The disclaimer is that it looks clearer on my computer so BT Cloud may be doing something to the file or how it's played, but it'll give you an idea of the quality of recording. All in all, I reckon the camera is excellent for the money and I'm well pleased with it. FYI - the road at the top is a one-way with traffic flow from right to left of the screen. The Nissan Micra committing the offence is clear enough to easily read its number plate. https://btcloud.bt.com/web/app/share/invite/CggA288Hs8
  7. Some cameras do have a 'parking mode' where they are energised all the time. Not sure if they draw enough current to flatten the battery but I would hope that you could disable that mode via the menu, otherwise if not, I'd buy a camera without it. After all, the camera can only capture from one direction (possibly two if you have dual front/back), which still leaves a huge area uncovered, so a parking mode only has a very limited use anyway.
  8. Not sure if it's your LS or the RX that you've got as 2004 but if it is the RX, why on earth would you even think of taking a car that old to a main dealers and paying their extortionate prices? All cars have brakes and any mechanic worth his salt can fettle brakes (if they can't, I seriously don't think they should be using the title of 'mechanic' in their job description). Lots of places now have courtesy cars and if you go to a local garage you're safe in the knowledge that your money will (mostly) be used in the local community.
  9. Don't forget it's not just the cost of the warranty. You also have to factor in the increased cost of servicing at Lexus main stealers over cheaper independent garages. The Lexus Paradox - people are drawn to the cars because of the reputation for reliability and then spend a grand on a warranty because they're frightened of it being unreliable
  10. I got a Nextbase 402G from Halfords, on offer for £115 when other places were charging over £120. It's like anything else, you just have to shop around for the best price at the time and it just happened that at the time I was looking for a dashcam, Halfords had this one on offer and it's excellent so I'm well chuffed. A month or two either way and maybe somewhere else may have been cheaper, who knows?
  11. I guess you didn't read my reply above that I posted on Saturday at 3.26pm - have a look at post No. 13

  13. There seems to be a lot of talk on these forums about increasing/decreasing tyre pressures to achieve better MPG or this or that. I've said it before but it's worth stating again. It doesn't matter what you want to run your tyres at or what some guy in a newspaper says, it's what the manufacturer says.
  14. I sometimes think advertising execs live in a strange parallel universe but none moreso than car insurance. That utterly stupid, nonsensical Moneysupermarket one with 'builders and strutters' just makes me want to hurl the telly out of the window. And the Go Compare ones too. The only thing these companies have achieved as far as I'm concerned is to ensure I will NEVER use them!
  15. Wow, that is eye-wateringly expensive - a starting price of £440! Then I suppose there'll be a monthly charge for data etc., etc. I've just had a long weekend in Poland with a few mates for less than half that. Flights, three nights accommodation and all my food and drink (of which there was plenty ) came to £215 I know it's all about priorities and I've no doubt it's a great unit, but I just couldn't justify that amount of money for an infotainment system in an 11 year old car. Thanks for the link though Ross, very interesting.
  16. Ok, I admit to being thick but that link goes to a page detailing beta testing and saying that you need to live within 50 miles of Belmont, California. Unless Dunbartonshire has moved, I don't see any details for how someone in the UK gets one of these units so please elaborate for us Ross.
  17. Have a look at the two photos on this thread: http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/topic/109989-ouch-why-did-i-do-that/#comment-974592 That has just cost me £180 to have repaired. Ok, it's a smaller area than yours, but mine was also dented whereas yours isn't. Not sure why your location is a secret but I live in Preston, Lancashire and, like I say, it was £180 here.
  18. First position switches on front fog lights, second position (against spring) turns on rear fogs. Turn it again (against spring) to turn rear fogs off. No idea about the other stuff
  19. If the bottom is falling out of your world Drink Boddingtons and let the world fall out of your bottom
  20. Whenever we get a new (to us) car I always get my mechanic to change the fluids because you never know what the previous owner has done. When we got this RX300 back in May, he changed the coolant, tranny fluid, brake fluid, front and rear diff oils, but not the power steering fluid. He reckons it's very rare to change steering fluid and I've no reason to doubt him so left it at that.
  21. I have no idea why that would be John. I signed up on there back in 2007 when I was first learning about the world of LPG, so I can't even give you any suggestions I'm afraid. I'm sorry that you're having a problem registering but keep trying my friend, it's worth it.
  22. Good to know that there are other great installers out there who have happy customers who are more than willing to recommend them. I probably passed three or four other installers to travel almost 100 miles to Simon in South Elmsall (West Yorks) and seeing the quality of his work and the depth of his knowledge, I'd happily travel ten times that distance if I had to. I just love to see someone who takes pride in their work and can do their job well, whatever that job may be - there's no excuse for sloppy workmanship at all.
  23. No problem whatsoever Phil. Simon Andrew who did my conversion said that that's his preferred location (under the bumper but not necessarily central like mine) for the filler point because it avoids having to cut into the body or bumper. It's also my preferred location because it means I can fill up easily from either side. However, he'll put the filler wherever you want it if you have a preference and I've no doubt at all that if someone were to buy my car and then want a tow bar fitting, it could easily be moved or modified to suit.
  24. I just wanted to make a point about the link above that John (thatfatbloke) posted. It leads to UKLPG, "the trade association for the LPG industry in the UK", where you can find a list of UKLPG Approved Installers. It may not matter so much for John because it's obvious that he just needs a service/repair but someone may come along and read this topic at some future date because they are thinking of having an LPG conversion done and I just wanted to point out that unfortunately, being a UKLPG Approved Installer' is not necessarily a guarantee of getting a good job done. Just like in most things, there are good ones and there are bad ones. UKLPG are a trade association, not a government regulator, and people pay an annual membership fee to become members. I'm not saying that this is a good thing or a bad thing, just that they have no legal standing to do anything about bad or rogue installers. I've seen photos of abysmal installations done by UKLPG Approved Installers and beautiful, neat, superb installations carried out by people who are not UKLPG Approved Installers - and, of course, vice versa. As with most things, there's nothing better than personal recommendations from satisfied customers and LPG conversions/servicing/maintenance is no different, so I'd advise anyone and everyone who has, or is thinking of getting, LPG conversion or other work done, to become members of the LPG Forum where, amongst others, there's a dedicated subforum entitled "Find an LPG Professional" where you can get recommendations (or otherwise) from other people. The guy who converted my RX300 back in July did an absolutely brilliant job (couple of pics in this topic here). Very neat, very tidy and it runs like a dream - and I chose him because of what I saw and read on the LPG Forum. He's a prolific poster on there and he's well thought of by both customers and fellow installers alike. His depth of knowledge about both LPG systems and how they work, and also about how engines work in themselves, is almost encyclopedic - and yet he is NOT a UKLPG Approved Installer. He certifies his work to COP11 (or whatever it is) and gives a 2-year warranty. Because he's not a member of UKLPG it means that the car is not on the 'UKLPG Register' but that's not a problem for my insurer at all and they are more than happy to cover the car as normal.
