Halogen lights will be 'instant on' whereas xenon (HIDs) will initially come on fairly dim and take a couple of seconds to warm up to full brightness (irrespective of the little 'dance' that HIDs should do).

Satnav Dvd Upgrade
sorcerer replied to nickdrums's topic in RX 300 / RX 350h / RX 400h / RX 200t / RX 450h+ / RX 500h Club
Why do people insist on torturing themselves with such awkward and outdated satnav systems??? It is just beyond comprehension why anyone would put so much time, money and effort into getting an old, inferior, DVD-based system up to 'modern' standards especially when, even at its best, it is still far inferior to a TomTom, Garmin or other modern standalone satnav. My TomTom GO Live 1005 (5" screen) sits unobtrusively in the bottom right-hand corner of the windscreen and has a gazillion-percent more functionality and ease-of-use than the Lexus unit ever could. It flawlessly and effortlessly gets me from my home in Preston, Lancashire to the far reaches of Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia and other countries. It allows me to program in my own POIs such as LPG filling stations, the Pocket GPS World speedcam database, and a whole host of other things that you could never do with any DVD-based system. I use the factory-fitted nav unit as a sort of rolling screensaver but never for navigation, life is just too short for grief like that. -
I work from home repairing, building and upgrading computers but I need business cover on the car insurance so that I can do pick-ups/drop-offs and my wife also needs business cover (Civil Servant) as she sometimes has to drive for her work (she doesn't drive enough to justify her own car so just one car in the household). Both of us have 40+ years driving experience, no claims in the last 20 years etc., etc., and it was £320 last year. I often think that you could get a greater understanding of how car insurance works by burning chicken bones whilst facing east and offering a sacrifice to some obscure cosmic deity rather than trying to logically work it out.

Do you know how to read? If you're going to have a pop at someone else, at least give them a link to a company that covers their area. -
MPG on LPG
sorcerer replied to Ruud's topic in LS 400 / Lexus LS 430 / Lexus LS 460 / Lexus 600h / Lexus 500h Club
As you'll see from my sig, my RX300 is currently averaging just over 16mpg but I've yet to add in the last five or six fill-ups. The Fuelly website is very good in that it lets you compare your car to others, although for best accuracy you do need to be comparing with other cars in the same area as you because as we all know, fuel prices vary greatly around the country. The pictures below show a petrol only RX300 is costing 22.5p per mile in fuel, an RX400h is costing 19.6p per mile, and then my LPG RX300 is costing me just 12.6p per mile -
I got this one on Ebay a while ago and it's been excellent.

I think the problem is that the original struts have no part number or any meaningful markings on them for places like SGS to base their replacement struts on and so the replacements often aren't up to the job. Like you, I also got a replacement set from SGS and had the same problems. When I spoke to someone there they said that they always err on the side of caution and pressurise the struts to a low value first. He said that if I sent them back they could increase the pressure rating, so that's what I did, but sadly they still didn't work properly and I still had the same problem. I ended up buying a set of original struts from a breakers yard on Ebay for £40 and they now work perfectly. The brand new set of SGS struts are currently sitting in the garage as an expensive failed experiment. The only other thing I could suggest is to make sure the lift motor is well lubricated - mine was dry as a bone when we looked at it.

Never experienced this myself Les so can't help really, but does it show any error message? Mine once showed 'ERROR 4' but then corrected itself the day after Oh, and you may get more responses by posting in the RX300 forum - not sure if the same CD player was used across the range.

RUST

I'm not quite sure that I'm understanding this correctly. First of all, the OP says " the service engineer (Carlisle Lexus) called me through to the work shop to point out the extent of the corrosion, and to be honest I was a bit shocked" which implies that he saw the corrosion with his own eyes, which also implies that it's in an easy place to see/get to. Then he goes on to say " I took my RX 450h 2010 to my other very trusted service garage for a second opinion, and to my shock he confirmed what Lexus had pointed out." which, if he needed a second opinion, may imply the exact opposite. So did he see it or not? Underpinning all this is the fact that MOT inspectors are not allowed to remove things whilst carrying out the test. This is why you'll get an advisory on a rear seat belt if you have a baby seat installed, because they can't carry out the test on the belt without removing the baby seat and they aren't allowed to - which again points to the corrosion being in an easily visible and accessible place. -
Hello Paul and welcome to the forum. I also run an RX300 on LPG and it's brilliant. Be sure to post some pictures of the car and conversion when it's done - here's a couple of mine: 1 - Flashlube bottle 2 - Gas ECU 3 - Gas reducer It's an 85 litre tank and the fill point is in the middle so that I can fill up from either side

Usually you have the water pump done at the same time because it's basically in the same place as the timing belt. In other words, 90% of the work that's just been done to get at the belt will have to be done again when/if the water pump fails, so instead of adding 30 or 40 quid onto a job that's already being done, when/if the water pump goes you'll end up with another £300 bill. Replacing the idlers is just good practice and also usually done at the same time as the belt. I had belt, idlers/pulleys, water pump and coolant replaced for (if I remember correctly) about £425 - £435 at an independent garage.

So what was the fixed price and did you have the idler pulley/tensioner and water pump done at the same time? Oh, and what is ISC? A quick google came up with the following info. NB - this is pertaining to a Toyota Prius but reading it does seem to suggest that yes, testing of the hybrid battery can be done with Techstream software. https://priuschat.com/threads/how-to-test-hv-battery-state-of-health-on-your-gen-2-answer.163112/

Was the seller a dealer or did you buy it privately? If you bought it from a dealer then it's not surprising that they can't tell you what the button is for. You need to talk to the person who owned it before they sold it to the dealer - hopefully the person named on the V5C. If on the other hand, you bought it privately from the person named on the V5C but they are also saying that they don't know what it's for or who installed it, then you'll need to go further back to whoever had it before they got it. You can ask the DVLA for information about previous owners if you have a good reason but I'm not sure this question falls into that category. If you have any service history with the car, have a look for names and addresses on previous MOTs or any bills or receipts for repairs etc.
