  1. How long's a piece of string Les? Best case - a rubber hose somewhere that costs a few quid Worst case - heater matrix corroded/leaking which could even make it beyond economic repair (I believe the whole dash has to come out and the whole job is a nightmare).
  2. The main reason for not running the petrol tank dry is that in petrol injection systems the fuel pump is actually inside the fuel tank and is cooled and lubricated by the fuel itself - no fuel means no cooling or lubrication for the pump, possibly leading to other (no doubt expensive) problems.
  3. I may well be wrong but as far as I know there are only two classes of licence in that context, those being provisional (when you're learning to drive) and full. There are, of course, different classes of vehicles, such as car, HGV, motorcycle etc., but my understanding is that the licence itself can only be either provisional or full. Maybe someone will correct me, I don't know.
  4. @Britprius Please contact me off the forum at jhewitt1958@gmail.com I should be able to help you with some information about this. Cheers, John
  5. You're giving yourself grief and heartache over something that's never going to be great and will always bo old and clunky anyway Nicky - remember the old saying "You can't make a silk purse from a sow's ear". Just use your TomTom when necessary and leave the inbuilt nav as it is.
  6. I suppose it depends what outlets you've got access to but around here BP stations are a minimum of 10p/l more expensive than the Calor Centres and even 7p/l more expensive than the Shell/Texaco stations, which means that when you get your discounted litres it's still more expensive and you're only getting your own money back that you paid over the odds anyway
  7. I would happily tell you who did mine but I'm not allowed to or I'll be banned from the forum myself. You can either PM me or email me off the board at darkstar2004@btinternet.com for details.
  8. And what about visitors/holidaymakers? How will we fuel our cars if we need to travel in France in a petrol or diesel vehicle? Will LPG still be available for us elite ones?
  9. I agree Keiron, Dave should be able to handle that, no problem
  10. I don't live in the area so I can't answer your question but, a lot of the complexities won't be service items anyway will they? Have a look in your manual and see what items a service at 43k (or nearest mileage) covers. If there's something Lexus-specific then you've got your answer, but if it's only things like oil and filter, air filter etc., then any garage with a good reputation will be able to do it. One thing to note is that your car is only 3 years old, which means that the Lexus stamp in the service record is still quite a desirable thing when you come to sell.
  11. I ordered mine online on a Tuesday afternoon I think it was, and they were fitted at my local National Tyres the next morning so you shouldn't have a problem with timings.
  12. I agree entirely. When I first went LPG and had my Nissan Maxima QX converted in 2006 (IIRC) it took me a good FOUR MONTHS of research to make my mind up about who I was going to go to. Someone told me that if the installer didn't correctly match the LPG system to the power of the car it would change back to petrol when working hard, which is exactly the time when you want the car drinking cheap gas rather than expensive petrol. There was a guy just 6 or 7 miles from me doing conversions and he had an excellent reputation. His work was exceptionally tidy, he knew exactly what he was doing and he did it very well. However, he was only qualified for one system and he couldn't guarantee that it was suitable for my car and that it wouldn't change back to petrol under heavy load, so I couldn't let him do the work. It was very difficult. Sometimes you'd get the correct system but the installer wasn't great. Other times the installer was brilliant but couldn't supply the necessary system and so on. I eventually decided on a guy about 40 miles away who fitted an OMVL Dream XXIn system and did a brilliant job and I was well pleased. When we got the RX300 last year I wanted him to do the conversion again but he's now retired so I started researching again. Thankfully it wasn't difficult this time. I heard about a guy who is about 100 miles away from me who has an excellent reputation. I can't mention his name because he upset the forum mods and got himself banned from here. I've been warned that if I dare utter his name again that not only will I be banned myself but it will also release the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse and bring about the end of the world as we know it However, I will say this - I am so impressed by the knowledge that he has and by his craftmanship and the work that he's done on my RX300, that if someone went to him on my say so and they weren't happy with the conversion, I would pay the bill myself; such is the regard in which I hold this chap.
  13. You'll not be disappointed with the Avons -here's the text from a previous posting I made in these forums back in November: I've just put 4 Avon ZX7s (235/55 R18 100V) on my RX300 and ordered them from http://www.tyreshopper.co.uk for £386 then used a Tyreshopper discount code to get 5% off, making it £366 and also got 3.15% cashback by going through http://www.topcashback.co.uk making the final, fully-fitted price £354. They were fitted at a local branch of National Tyres who, if I had bought the tyres directly from them, would have charged £421. I'm VERY impressed with the tyres. They're 'A' rated for wet conditions and they certainly deserve it as the car is so sure-footed now, in both wet and dry conditions - I can highly recommend them.
  14. @dendonc - your link wasn't working but when I searched myself I found this: The UKLPG website reckons that there are more than 1400 outlets selling autogas and the website I linked to earlier, https://www.filllpg.co.uk/index.php, says that there are 1361 confirmed outlets, so both websites are fairly close in their numbers. I don't think that there's ever been a great lot more than this, so I'm not sure that there's any great downturn in the sale and use of autogas - not so much so that we need to be worried anyway.
  15. I use my local Calor Centre which is currently 48.9ppl. This site https://www.filllpg.co.uk/ lists most, if not all, LPG fill points and is available as an app for Android and Apple.
  16. Not seeing a picture Ezzie, try uploading again.
  17. When I had a Rover 800 Sterling I bought the official factory workshop manual. It had to be ordered from Rover like any other part and it came in three volumes and cost over £200 back in, if I recall correctly, 1984.
  18. I agree with the others. Best practice would be to take the armoured cable directly into the summerhouse and terminate in a two-way (one for lights, one for sockets) consumer unit. I'm assuming you've not done this before or you wouldn't be asking the question so there's a good Youtube video below (or there would be if I knew how to embed it - just click on the link instead). If you really do need to joint the cables before entering the summerhouse then Wago connectors and boxes would be my suggestion. https://youtu.be/zp6jlryMSkc
  19. They're only the owners manuals Lee, not the service manual
  20. I bought a jump start battery pack very much like this one a few months ago. On mine, a bank of four blue LEDs indicate the state of charge of the battery pack and I can say that after being fully charged (four LEDs lit) and then living in the boot of the car for a few months, it has only dropped one LED and is still holding up to 75% charge. I've not had to use it yet so can't say just how good it actually is, but there are plenty of YouTube videos showing them in action and I have no reason to doubt that it would get me (or anyone else) out of the doo-doo when needed.
  21. Fair enough, but either way he needs to get them done now Is the downward revision to 60/6 just for the IS200 or the whole Lexus range?
  22. Get the belts, idler/tensioner and water pump done ASAP. Timing belts are usually 100k or 10 years, whichever is sooner, so it's well overdue on time. When I buy a secondhand car, one of the first things I also do is to get all fluids changed too.
  23. What does the 'R' signify in RX300R? I've got an SE and I know of SE-Ls, but didn't even know an R existed.
  24. Avons are very good - here's the text from a previous posting I made in these forums back in November: I've just put 4 Avon ZX7s (235/55 R18 100V) on my RX300 and ordered them from http://www.tyreshopper.co.uk for £386 then used a Tyreshopper discount code to get 5% off, making it £366 and also got 3.15% cashback by going through http://www.topcashback.co.uk making the final, fully-fitted price £354. They're 'A' rated for wet conditions and they certainly deserve it as the car is so sure-footed now, in both wet and dry conditions - I can highly recommend them.
  25. It is indeed possible to burn mp3 files to DVD but it's a sort of 2-prong thing in that your burning software has to be able to do it and your player has to support mp3 playback from DVD - not sure if the player in the car does?
