  1. They aren't usually threaded but only need a quarter turn. May have to press down as you turn it as well.
  2. Am I being silly or is that a tyre valve on the inside of the wheel???
  3. Maybe not as good as they used to be on the support front since they ended telephone support:
  4. Not the answer you're looking for but, if you find it difficult to get repaired for a decent price you could always wrap it like Lee did in this topic: https://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/topic/115167-bit-of-an-interior-change/?tab=comments#comment-1040373
  5. I got that too, when I was an apprentice electrician
  6. Have you ever heard of USENET? If so, copy the above post into uk.legal.moderated where many very knowledgeable people will be only too happy to offer help and advice. If you've never heard of USENET, then the way to access the same groups, but via the web rather than a dedicated USENET client is to go through Google Groups - this is the one you want: https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/uk.legal.moderated
  7. So three of us, all with different experiences of the same item from the same seller. Looks like wherever they're sourced from doesn't have much in the line of quality control.
  8. Thanks for your efforts Steve. In case it helps, it's been as good as always for me up to about 4pm this afternoon and then it started timing out and stuff - maybe getting worse rather than better if others have been seeing problems for a couple of days?
  9. This is the one I got from eBay for my RX300 and it was very easy to install and works a treat, so my advice is - save yourself loads of money and go for it. Maybe I was lucky; maybe you were unlucky; maybe the truth lies somewhere in the middle, but for £15 it's well worth a punt. Funnily enough, mine was an altercation with a Transit van too, and also not even a scratch on the outer casing - weird eh?
  10. I don't know about an IS200 specifically because I've never had one, but all sorts of weird electrical problems can be caused by a failing battery or bad earths. Because of the way vehicles are wired (all earths common to the body and battery negative), if an earth connection becomes loose or is dirty or corroded, power can be backfed into other circuits. I remember a case of a skip truck where every time the driver applied the brakes, the windscreen wipers came on - release the brake and they stopped. That was traced to a faulty earth somewhere. Check that the battery is in a good state of charge and check the main earth strap from the battery negative to the body, the engine earth strap and also the earth connections at the headlights. Other than that, I don't know. Oh, and when I say "check" the earth straps, unbolt them and clean the connections, don't just visually inspect them. Good luck.
  11. Can't do because the OP has blocked out the number plate, though god knows why. I often wonder why people block out number plates in general when posting on forums. No doubt some will say to avoid cloning but that's rubbish - how many hundreds, maybe even thousands of people see your number plate on a daily basis as you drive around to/from work or wherever? Anyone could take a photo or just memorise the plate of any car that takes their fancy at any time of day or night, they aren't state secrets
  12. A very good review David and I'd agree with almost everything you've said. Mine had the satnav and reversing camera and they were excellent, but reversing sensors would also have been handy. Add in the reversing light mod, replacing the front cigar lighter with a twin USB socket and fitting the daytime running lights, and I felt that that was it, the car couldn't be improved much more. It was a superb car but, oh my, the 450h is a whole order of magnitude above the 300 in every respect - not surprising I suppose as it's much newer :-)
  13. If you have a service plan with Lexus, fair enough. If you have a local, trusted garage, all well and good. But for anyone who hasn't, a great way to avoid being ripped off is local authority garages. I took my RX300 for MOT to Preston Bus Garages who charge the public £29.00 for MOT but they don't actually carry out any work on public cars, therefore no incentive to erroneously 'fail' the car. Around here, the Ambulance Garage and also Fire Brigade (I think) also offer the service for the same price.
  14. No issue with outsourcing whatsoever as long as they don't stick a huge markup on the price for acting as middleman - that's what I object to.
  15. Music does it for me. I hear a song and I'm instantly transported back in time to the people and the things we were doing when I first heard it - and it's a lot cheaper and less painful than either watches or tattoos
  16. We have a 63-plate RX450h Advance and it has DAB radio. One of the great things about DAB (probably the only one really) is that whether it's a radio in the house or in the car, the stations usually display the title of the song and/or the artist, but the radio in our car doesn't do this. Is there a setting I can alter somewhere to make this happen? It's so frustrating to be thinking, "Wow! This is a brilliant song - but who is it and what's it called?" because, as we all know, DJs are not always on the ball with that info.
  17. The permanent magnet motors used in Toyota/Lexus are probably the most reliable part of the car and are designed to last the life of the car with very little maintenance, if any at all. I read an interesting article about them just a few days ago but Sod's Law has come into play and I can't find it now. I'll keep looking and post it if I find it.
  18. Main dealers will just ship them out to be done elsewhere and no doubt will charge you for the privilege so you may as well take them to a proper place yourself.
  19. Well I don't know what you've been looking at but I just couldn't be happier with our RX450h. Very quiet, bright, airy, roomy, drives and handles like a dream and so comfortable. Have we just been very lucky? Have you just been very unlucky? Or are you just looking for reasons to keep your 400h?
  20. I haven't got radar cruise control but surely that's not a fault and it's just working in the way it's designed to?
  21. Instead of taking them out just measure the voltage at the working one and provide an external voltage of the same value to the faulty one.
  22. I recently got two Goodyear Vector 4 Seasons put on the rear and they're much quieter than the Dunlop SP Sport 270's that were on there and they also appear to be excellent tyres.
  23. Had an RX450h since the beginning of February and we love it. Much quieter than our previous RX300 but as Les said above, tyres play a massive part in the noise equasion.
  24. That doesn't sound too good, just listing "antifreeze". OK, you'rs is a 2.4 Harrier import so I accept it may be different to 'ours', but if the owner's manual specifies a certain coolant (like mine specified Toyota Super Long Life Pink) you should stick with it. It's not only antifreeze but the whole chemical makeup of the coolant and how it reacts with the rubber seals and suchlike. I don't buy "genuine Toyota/Lexus" things like brakes, batteries or exhausts etc., because Toyota/Lexus don't make them - they just buy them in from whoever does and they put their own markup on. I do, however, always buy the recommended fluids because there's usually more than just the face value of 'fluid' to take into account if you see what I mean.
  25. No, as the description says, they've flushed it, so whatever they used it's only gone in and come out again, probably taking some crud with it. And what they've probably done in reality is to stick a hosepipe in the radiator, taken a pipe off somewhere else and just let it run through for a few minutes. Once they've let it all drain out and they've refilled the system with the correct coolant, everything will be fine. I think my RX300 needed Toyota Super Long Life Pink coolant if I remember right. I know I bought it from my local Toyota main dealer (we don't have a Lexus dealer here) and it was on offer at the time, almost half price!
