I drove my local dealer’s 70 reg RX today and thought it was sublime for the features and benefits I’m looking for but, at the end of a 30 min reasonably sedate drive I was stunned to see the mpg readout for the journey being 23.1 mpg. I realise a big, heavy SUV isn’t going to be the most economical of cars but assumed 30-35 on average was a realistic expectation.

I’d be interested to hear from existing owners what they’re achieving from theirs.
    Many thanks

    Richard

On motorways I easily achieve between 34 -38 mpg. When driving in town it drops to about 26mpg especially if the journey is short

Well, over the air map download was a breeze.  No downloading stuff onto sticks, it’s just check map and update if required.  50 minutes later I’m done.  Not sure if firmware updates are done OTA.  Been good if they were.

Hi Habu, how far did you get to unraveling the 6 months free WiFi in the booth. Have you connected to it or just using your phone WiFi hotspot  Am due to pick my RX Takumi tomorrow hence wanted to be sure what questions I should be asking the dealer.

Tomorrow or Saturday, I’ll be using the WiFi in the car to update the maps OTA!  I’ll see how it compares to downloading the maps to a memory stick and then running the engine for an hour.

Hi Habu, have you questioned your dealer why your brand new car didn’t come with the latest map, and you are having to resort to updating it yourself?.
Do you have to pay for the update or is it a free download?

I had exactly the same problem except there was no sticker on the Glove Box.

If you go in the boot, lift the carpet and the floor covering to reveal the spare wheel, there is a cubby hole on the right hand side.  This houses the router.  There is a sticker on the side of the router which has the pass key on it.  Its only small and as I'm 60 and need glasses, i needed to photograph it and then enlarge!  Hope this helps.  It was driving me nuts and the dealership had no idea!

It is strange that your dealer isn’t aware of the WiFi box even though the six months free data usage is contained in the RX sales brochure. You need to register on the Lexus link app on AppStore if you’re a I Phone user. The set up is straight forward.
once the six months free data subscription is finished, you can either insert a data only SIM card into the box or use your personal phone as hotspot if you have sufficient data allowance on your phone contract

I wondered why, when I was syncing my phone that I kept getting a WiFi hotspot and then, this afternoon I found a WiFi box hidden in the boot under the little panel on the right hand side.  Is that standard?

Hi Congrats am also expecting to take my delivery in two weeks time. Would be curious what you will find out about this little WiFi hotspot box. I suspect it may be  similar to what I have read on the American forums where they get a free internet access for the 1st year known as Lexus Enform, and it reverts to paid subscription after the first year. Let us know what you find out

Almost certainly will be on the same boat.  It lands on Friday 13 November!  If I push the button tomorrow to get the car (it’s on reserve for me until mid Monday morning) then I’ll find out which boat it’s on.

Yes, AC and AA are factory fitted for MY20 RX models.

What colour and trim are you going for?

Hi Habu, I ordered the Takumi in Sonic Titanium. The interior is Ochre leather

The recent-ish update to CarPlay allowed the map to be displayed on more than one location - the one location currently being the infotainment screen.  The CarPlay software now permits multiple display options such as the HUD or things like the Audi display in front of the driver.  The onus is now on the car manufacturer to initialise this or not.

I love my HUD - all 10.2” of it - but I’ll only use CarPlay for messages and music and generally not Nav as I’ll miss the directional instructions in the HUD.  I even have the map instructions on for places I visit frequently or where I know the route inside out.

A car I’m going to look at this Sunday doesn’t come with HUD or ventilated seats and both of these are important to me so it would need to be really good elsewhere for me to consider it.  In the meantime my Lexus Centre has reserved an RX Takumi in my spec that’s currently on a boat sailing from Japan.  I need to decide by Sunday.  The boat lands in Bristol 3 weeks today.

Interestingly I’ve been told my RX Takumi is also arriving in 3 weeks time. I can’t wait hopefully all the apple CarPlay software will have been installed from the factory.

422 LCs sold up to the end of Sept 2020 according to Lexus GB's sales figures. Not sure on the split between V8 and hybrid, I think it is around 2:1.

    Those figures preserve the exclusivity.

Yeah - they treating Europe as secondary market which basically just gets scraps, UK being tertiary...

Collectively we can probably blame ourselves - we buy too much SUVs and it no longer makes financial sense to introduce executive saloons here. Although I was under impression IS300h was selling rather well. That said, potential 300h buyer would be satisfied with ES300h - it is not like driving wheels makes much difference with that power output. They would not have introduced IS350 anyway and I think we can easily do without another IS300 (200t).

From outside it looks very good, especially the front - I would argue Lexus has refined their "predator look" and whereas new BMW 4 is bold, but unrefined, Lexus whenever you like it or not is really recognisable from the grill. But interior leaves much to be desired, stuck on screen looks dated and lazy design, seems like there isn't much improvements in complicated infotainment control and the rest of the interior lacks any improvements over current gen. I would argue that FL mk3 IS actually looks better inside with integrated screen and (probably) has same tech.

I Agee with everything you’ve said. Personally I have not driven the new ES, but being front wheel drive I don’t think it will necessarily be the 1st option of current IS owners but I may be wrong.

The ES is obviously a step up however that is expected asit is a recent 2018 design. There exist a large IS loyal fan base in North America and within Japan and to some extent in China therefore I can only conclude it is our loss in Europe.

I was probably one of 3 people in the world that did that to their GS450h and now I'm thinking about doing that to ReX. There aren't many videos on YouTube (0 actually), of anyone doing that to RX450h, but there are some of RX350 which has a similar petrol V6, 2GR-FE vs 2GR-FSE in 450h. On GS the petrol V6 did cut in more often than on ReX tho

Yes the GS 450h engine was highly tuned compared to the version fitted to the RX.

i still miss my 450h seven years after I sold it. Especially when I remember how I embarrass one BMW 535d owner on the m25 in the days when there were no cameras
