  1. There's a Lexus trained mechanic in Swindon........ I wonder if anyone knows a good source in Bristol? (He thinks, spotting a Ser 2 on my travels shopping today)
  2. Yes, but .....how, was the original question. certainly a good idea to keep battery topped up, especially in the chill. clear skies here tonight!
  3. I raised this point a few days back.....somewhere! Audi used to have a trickle charger in their sunroof! I share your view that it WON'T work in a Cig lighter; am happy to be proved wrong!
  4. 'Worth' is a relative term. In this country we seem to have totally accepted the fake hypothesis that cars should depreciate rapidly. Is it only 'worth' £1900? Of course not. With all the quality we know it has? Cars don't lose their value in Europe half as much (that's a metaphor; I'm don't KNOW it's 50% less!) Certainly in the warped marketplace we have in UK, it costs less. In a sensible world it's 'worth' every penny-as we know. I'm sure we can find lesser cars at the same price? And, who knows, maybe the prices will join the collectors market. For instance, a Citroen DS23 is 'worth' a min of -say - £20K. Is it a better car? Of course not. And it may be that gradually Ser 4 cars become 'worth' more again as we recognise their rarity.
  5. Ah, yes, the Boot light. Need a nice 7 year old volunteer! Or wire in a separate switch! Isn't the starter hard to get at? (Contacts) Like lots of stuff, it's good to check contacts this way. My Citroen CX had junction hassles that caused overheating hassle (fan wouldn't be triggered.)
  6. See! Now SNOW is forecast! Nice pics of LSs sliding about coming soon? THAT'S why I used to SORN my car, I remember now! All the best to you all for 2015
  7. A battery shop can test the basic capacity of a battery. I get mine from a place that makes them (I think) and they do this. I used not to 'plip' my Ser 4 outside my house because -as A-Marine says, the security system seems to drain the power. Was thinking about fitting a solar trickle charger but I think the LS's Cig lighter isn't 'live' without ignition -so couldn't plug the Solar do-dad in there. (Earlier Audis had a solar system built in to their roof window. But not later! Is that progress?) Can we source an extra Amperage battery to fit in the space?
  8. What I think of as 'Boadicea' wheels! Slicing through the traffic, etc? (-:
  9. NOOOOOOO! Not trolleys! I know Lexus paint is good but......always park well away from people/next to a wall/shop at 7 a.m./use Ocado....it's your treasure! And, anyway, they shouldn't just 'pop out'! Designed to survive 120 mph wind! Clear greetings today!
  10. Ah, the days of simple cars. I had a Citroen Dyane, circa 1980, that had a duff ignition switch. we just dropped in a board with two button-switches on, one for Ignition, one for starter......ignored the barrel completely. Absolutely NO security! But, no one was going to nick a scruffy old Dyane! This is a great string; the value of socialism! Seasoned greetings everyone!
  11. 'Red' aka Carmine, or turquoise will do; Metallic paint good......would LOVE red seats........are there any? Saw some lovely two-tone seats in an ad somewhere (not Lex) maybe Smart Forfour- quite like those cars. I recall wonderful seat combos on US custom cars in the 60s!
  12. I'll have the Green one. Or green one with black..... My first one (Ser 3) was graphite grey (though I seem to recall Lexus called it something green!). My Ser 4 was that nice turquoise. But, in the end, it's the car, not the colour, especially in small choice. Think we should toss a coin for it Mr lpg?
  13. OK Now help me find a good, low mile Ser 4 LS 400.......ideally WITH lpg! Zooooom....pigs flying overhead? Well I can dream, it's a Christmas wish! (-:
  14. I like 'irradicated' M. Marine! Sounds like a cross between erased and irradiated! It's interesting that folk think the LSs all look the same; but they change a lot between models. Ser 2...."Unfortunate resemblance to a 1930s refrigerator' said Setright, though! Each to their own, I guess?
  15. Well, not completely! But you're right, the spheres did need re-gas occasionally. Ah, memories of drifting home in snowbound-silence, windows open, music playing ...in a DS23.......
  16. Stop it! It's getting to poor deprived me! Why did I ever sell mine......3 years ago?
  17. Nice car colour, Mr Scribe! You're right. Citroen were clever with their suspension. I recall that Ford reputedly spent $$$s trying to perfect hydraulic seals-and failed. Citroen took the pragmatic approach- they recognised that seals would leak ....a little...so designed a system that recycled the excess cleverly!
  18. Thanks to all. This string helps to fill out background for me thinking about lpg.
  19. Agree. When researching Citroen C6s, (as a long time Citroen fan/owner-DSs/CXs....) I read some bad stories, but also some inside info. Citroen has habit of spoiling their cars by a 'happorth of tar'-i.e. not getting the little things right. Until later.....when reputation is shot! In contrast, I have this image of teams of obsessive 'Kaizen' operatives in Toyota, trying to get each nut.....perfect! Especially on the earlier cars, when they were trying to outdo everyone to PROVE their cars were best. And, as you say, Phil, I asked Lexus Bristol (where I live, not far from M5 J18), their engineer said he'd only worked seriously on ONE engine (who drove through a flood!) I guess the trouble is that, as I feared with my previous cars, the little bits that wear CAN add up to a fair few £££s! I've come round again to the idea that something special is worth investing in!
  20. But they should at least TELL YOU it's there! Maybe it's the seasonal chaos? Ring the local/relevant office? {Unless you're importing a LS400 Ser 4; then just redirect it to MY house.........}
